I actually want to do presentation on this raise in temperature and I want you guys to send me pictures of Bright day light from Multan, I mean how it looks like on a hot day like this which I can use in the slides.
I was nominated for CSC, but I still haven’t received any scholarship email while some other students already got theirs.
I heard that if your portal status still says “In Process” or “Final Result Unreleased,” they may still consider you for other scholarships after evaluating your profile, and some cases stay in progress until August.
I checked the portal and also emailed them. They replied saying to wait until the deadline on 30th May.
I always struggle when people react to my appearance changes and ask things like “What have you done to your hair?” or “Why did you cut it so short?” Especially when I try a different hair color or style.
I usually go silent because I never know what to say in the moment, but I want to learn how to handle these situations better. I’d love to reply confidently, maybe even turn it into humor, instead of feeling awkward or defensive.
How do you guys respond to comments like this? Do you have any funny, confident, or smart replies that help you own your decision without making things uncomfortable?
As of now I heard that status on CSC portal has changed and if it didn't changed and university didn't even sent an email for selection. Does that mean we are rejected, how would we know in that case that it's over now ???
From my school, out of the students I know, they emailed 4 of them yesterday. The list of nominated students has 90 students. Are they going to email more students, or is that it? I know not everyone will get the scholarship, but I just want to know if there’s still a chance they’re sending the emails gradually.
I am looking for a tab to make notes and review ppts and research papers
I know it’s probably a bit early to ask this, but I’ve been wondering how someone at around HSK 2 level can actually practice speaking Mandarin effectively.
For context, I’ve been self-studying and feel like I’m roughly at HSK 2 right now. I can read with pinyin, and I can form basic sentences if I take a bit of time to think. I also write those sentences down and keep notes, which has been helping.
The issue is speaking. I know it’s important if you actually want to improve, but I’m not sure how to approach it at this stage. Talking to a native speaker feels unrealistic right now because I’m still really slow at processing and forming sentences. On top of that, I sometimes listen to HSK 3-level content, but I don’t fully understand it since it’s a bit above my level.
Part of me feels like real conversations with native speakers should come later, maybe around HSK 4, when you can handle more natural dialogue. But at the same time, I don’t want to completely neglect speaking practice right now.
So I wanted to ask: how did you practice speaking when you were still at a basic level? Especially if you were studying on your own and didn’t want to rely on or bother other people?
I’ve been learning Mandarin on my own, and I think I’ve reached HSK 2 level. At this point, when I read sentences, I can usually understand the meaning because I know most of the Level 2 vocabulary. Even when I don’t know a word, I can often guess it pretty accurately from context.
I wanted to ask people who have recently moved up to HSK 3 for some advice.
Lately, I feel like sentence length has increased a lot. Even though I know the words, I sometimes mix up the order and end up misunderstanding or forming sentences incorrectly. The only way that seems to help me right now is memorizing longer sentences so I can get used to the structure.
So I’m thinking: if I keep memorizing full sentences, maybe I’ll naturally get better at understanding and using the structure over time.
Do you think this is a good approach? Or should I spend more time strengthening my HSK 2 foundation before moving on?
Basically, I’m stuck between staying at HSK 2 a bit longer or pushing myself into HSK 3 and learning through the challenge.
I have applied for Masters and it's been a month I am waiting for final results from the scholarship council. I heard that it will be in May. Also I saw some students shared on social media about their admission letters and getting CSC type A .
I’m about to start my Master’s in China in an English-taught program. I recently found out that I’ll be the only foreigner in my research group. My professor is quite comfortable in English since he did his postgraduate studies in the US, and I’ve also started learning Mandarin.
I’m curious about what I might expect in this situation.
What are some possible advantages and disadvantages of being the only foreign student in a Chinese research group?
Also, what kind of challenges should I be prepared for (academically, socially, culturally, or in day-to-day lab life)? And do you have any tips on how to adapt and make the most of the experience?
