Italian Style Tonight -

My mother’s recipe is always a crowd pleaser. People insist that I make it for every occasion.

Tonight was the best I’ve ever made it. Thanks to the amazing Steakhouse tomato that was absolutely memorable.

To make the salad, use a few handfuls of spring mix salad greens. Slice a quarter of a vidalia onion thin julienne style. Slice 1/2 of an English cucumber, cut a tomato into wedges (or since this one was pretty large, into pieces)

Sprinkle kosher salt or grind some Mediterranean Sea salt.
Add some cracked pepper
Add 14 shakes of Tarragon Vinegar (or Italian wine vinegar)
Use the tongs and toss a bit
Then pour a thin line of extra virgin olive oil around the bowl
Stir and toss until all of the ingredients are incorporated and the lettuce has lost its stiffness
Serve soon, or it will “cook” in the vinegar

Tikka Masala

Even if you are not used to eating Indian food, try this! It’s delicious!

Bought this the other day and when putting away the groceries, discovered that I already had two packages from previous trips. I am glad that I decided to make two packs at once because the two of us finished every bit. This tikka masala was better than the jar versions in my opinion. We loved it.

I must be a complete idiot! I just found out the cleat goes into the tongue.

First time flooring DIYer here at the ripe old age of 60. Finished my master bedroom yesterday with all the cleats in the groove. Ready to move on to the next three bedrooms. The flooring appears to be fine. I’ll change the direction for the next rooms. How did I miss that key fact?

Napkin holder question

We need to buy a napkin holder for our MCM basement lounge. I love the 1950’s styling of the Fiesta napkin dispenser but don’t want to use cheap napkins. Does anyone have a quality tall fold napkin solution that will fit this dispenser?

Easy arborvitae maintenance to keep things green.

I have a row of 16 emerald green arborvitae and I have dogs that are very hard on them. #1 and #3 were replaced in the spring, due to dog violence, but did not have enough time before the heat arrived. #2 has been slowly giving up the ghost for a few weeks.

I don’t want to look at dead bushes all summer so I used paint, lawn paint in a pump sprayer. I will replace them again in the fall when they will have best chance of surviving.

Found a rare color friend!

Unfortunately not the sunniest day to show off the tiger eye mica paint, but still nice to see in person regardless!

Have the Clancy Barbecue Chips changed?

They just don’t taste the same anymore.

How to prevent spread of poison ivy & weeds from neighbors yard?

Neighbors yard is to the left of the red line, mine is on the right. The owner rents to tenants and simply does not upkeep the yard. Her yard is fully of poison ivy, poison oak, and weeds. The weeds and poison ivy have spread to my side. My husband suffered a horrible reaction to it. We cannot use our own backyard. We reached out to the owner to see if she would get her yard treated and she said no. So we treated our own side and it spread back from her side within a month. We have reached out to her multiple times. Finally we reached out to the city code enforcement.

Code enforcement informed the owner she must take care of the yard. So, she hired a 14 year old boy to come and cut everything down with shears.

We are hiring someone to come spray our side. We need to know the best way to stop the spread. Should we dig up our side, put down fabric and rocks? Root barrier? Some sort of tall edging to separate the yards? We’re at a loss.

Editing to add: the owner is saying that it’s all honeysuckle, not poison ivy. We had a forestry guy from the city come out and confirm it’s poison ivy, and informed her of that. She then said OUR yard is the issue. We are dealing with someone who just will not see reality, so unfortunately convincing her to treat her yard is not possible.

My grandmother’s Viking Decanter

I have had this piece for 25 years since my grandmother passed away. It always held a small amount of sentimental value but was always just stored away. The two pieces weren’t even stored together because I didn’t know if they belonged together or not. Out of the blue, I came across the stopper the other day and today, came across the decanter.

I really miss my grand mother and had a dream about her just last night. I have many dreams about her. She was a very special person. This decanter will always be prominently featured with the rest of my collection. Thank you, Grandmom.
