I’m considering trying out a batch of zimi masks. I understand the third generation masks are/will soon be available. But their website doesn’t seem to specify which gen masks are on sale. Does anyone know if the ones they’re selling now are the third gen?

I understand that heat pumps move heat from one place to another by boiling coolant under compression, resulting in the one coil being hot and the other cold. And I understand that heat pump water heaters emit cold air because they're harvesting heat from the surrounding air and using it to heat the water. So why doesn't my ventless combo washer/dryer seem cold when it's running a drying cycle? I've examined it by hand and using a thermal camera, and I can't find a cold spot, nor does it noticeably cool the small room it's in.

I've got an Ecobee Premium thermostat and FV-16VEC1T Panasonic BalancedHome ERV that I want to interconnect with my Carrier 59P6B080V17 furnace. My understanding is that the fan signal from the thermostat is supposed to run into the ERV, then back out on another wire to the furnace (Gf), that way the ERV or the furnace can call for fan. I set up the wiring consistent with the ERV's diagram as follows:

Furnace R to ERV R

Furnace C to ERV C

Thermostat G connected by WAGO connector to ERV G

ERV Gf to G on the furnace board.
ERV is set to DC4 duct configuration in settings, which is the correct one of my install type and for furnace interlock.

With everything wired that way the thermostat can no longer call for fan and the ERV turning on doesn't turn on the furnace fan. But the furnace fan will run when the thermostat calls for AC. Likewise if I jumper R to G it triggers the furnace fan.

At the ERV I get the following measurements between G and C:

ERV off and thermostat calling for fan: 28v

ERV on and thermostat calling for fan: 28v

ERV on and thermostat fan off: 13.8v

ERV off and thermostat fan off: 0.00v

With thermostat calling for fan, I measure only 8.7v between Gf and C. If just the ERV is running I get 4.8v between Gf and G. And if I put the ERV on standby it goes to 0.0v. If I disconnect the G wire from the furnace, I get 25v between Gf and G at the ERV.

Some other measurements that might be useful:

Between R and C I get 28v at the ERV. R to G is 19.3v whether ERV is running or on standby.

Panasonic is telling me to run a wire from ACC+ or ACC- to the V terminal on the ERV, hoping that might give a power boost that will allow Gf to maintain a 24v signal that can trigger the fan. But nothing I'm finding online suggests that the ACC+ or ACC- can be used this way. And in any case I have ACC+ operating my humidifier presently.

I'll start by saying I accept that veganism is clearly the moral dietary/lifestyle position. But does veganism extend to all aspects of our lives through our impacts on the environment? For example, is deciding to drive to the movie theater an ethically vegan choice? You'd be making a wholly unnecessary trip, using limited resources (tires, gasoline, calories, electricity) for a frivolous purpose. As non-recyclable waste increases and the climate warms, an incalculable number of animals and species will suffer, many will die. While the contribution to climate change and environmental destruction from that single choice is surely very very small, it might be argued that a decision like buying leather shoes or eating eggs is also only a very small contribution to overall animal suffering.

More broadly, living as a human today involves using massive amounts of limited resources (water, electricity, plastic, gasoline, toxic chemicals), all of which contribute across the span of a life to considerable environmental degradation. That's a largely human phenomenon. Does that suggest that existing as a human is itself incompatible with veganism?

I suspect the answer to these questions is to distinguish between harm and exploitation of animals, but I don't find that compelling given that animals experiencing suffering surely don't distinguish between those things.

Despite my repeated explanations about aerosol transmission, one family member can't get it out of their head that COVID doesn't distinguish between people based on politics or morality. She instinctively thinks it's lower risk to be around someone indoors if they're liberal in politics.

I'd like to use the Solterra's V2L function to help run my house's power needs during an outage. I have a generator inlet with interlock that I currently use with a propane generator. I plan to get a power station that can supply 30 amp power to supplement that power use, and I'd like to then hook up the power station to the Solterra's 15 amp outlet to help recharge the power station during use. That would mean running the Solterra so that it energizes the 15 amp outlet for many hours, maybe even several days. Does that seem like it will work based on how the Solterra's outlet works? For example, will it automatically turn off after an hour?

For the entirety of the pandemic I've seen people discuss, using anecdotal info, whether keeping N95s in your car during extremely hot/cold weather will damage the efficacy of the filtration material. I'm not aware of any quantitative data generated about this question. Yet it should be super easy for someone with a portacount to leave an N95 in their hot car for a few weeks, or maybe in a freezer, and to then compare the protectiveness of that respirator against one that was kept in temperate conditions. Can someone please do this so we can get a more reliable answer?

I’m planing to buy a 2027 model via the Costco deal. When should I expect dealerships to be able to place orders for the 2027 solterra?

Particularly for those who have previously owned a ~2019 era Subaru, how good is the lane keeping in the 2026 solterra? My 2019 Subaru bounces me between sides of a lane if it works at all.

I had a blood draw. I got dizzy, sweaty, and saw stars. The unmasked phlebotomists took my mask off because they insisted it was too hard to breathe in it. I was incapacitated briefly and wasn’t in a position to stop them. I’m so frustrated and worried.
