Louisville, CO Home Depot has a GRH05M1 SDS-MAX too.

XGT SDS-MAX GRH05 rotary hammer, 4.0Ah battery, charger and blow mold case all for $475 on clearance.

I've been tempted so many times but I barely have use for an SDS-PLUS, and the cost of an SDS-MAX to SDS-PLUS adapter is just silly, so…

Top 80s of the 80s was horrible

Not the content, but the production.

For example, #9 was Van Halen's Jump.

Not only did the song start about two seconds into the song while Alan Hunter was speaking, they timed it so the end of his speech ended just before David Lee Roth started singing.

The irony is his piece largely concerned the synthesizer open, which you could only hear faintly behind his discussion of it.

I thought surely they were just playing it so that you knew what he was talking about, and they would start the song over from the beginning.

Nope.

At least when pop DJs used to talk over instrumental opens on the radio they started the song from the beginning; did they have an intern assemble it from the voice tracks or was their automation acting up?

Milwaukee Summerfest Questions

I've always wondered:

How do the FoH folks for the smaller stages (e.g. BMO, Miller Lite, Generac, etc.) get hired? Friends of the person who did it last year? Do they accept applications? Contractors? Rhino?

What about the other festivals, is it a gig for the season?

The AmFam Amphitheater is likely the band's own crew and gear.

Know anyone near Denver looking for an XGT SDS-Max kit or ½" mid-torque impact wrench bare tool?

Home Depot 1552, 10858 Jake Jabs Blvd, Firestone, CO 80504 still has four of the GRH05M1 1-9/16" AVT SDS-MAX Rotary Hammer kits with a 4.0 Ah battery, charger and blow mold case left for $475 (was $949), and a ½" GWT08Z mid-torque impact wrench for $190 (was $379.)

They also have two LXT XMT04Z multitools left at $135 (was $269.)

They're near the rental desk.

Perhaps time for new central HVAC in Colorado

I have a 16-year-old Rheem gas furnace and 4 ton central air unit, both two stage, and the central air unit is beginning to have some issues that I suspect will cost me at least $1000 to fix. (Feels like a control board - when the thermostat call goes away, the outdoor compressor keeps trying to restart and shuts off every few seconds, and if I shut off the thermostat power, the compressor starts all by itself. Rheem uses relays and the board for everything so the system has no conventional "contractor." I swapped all caps and the relay from the second stage to the first as a test and the issue continues to remain with the first stage which makes me think the control board is bad.)

Given the age of the units, I'm wondering if I should just swap them out at this point for a new set as they usually estimate a 10 to 15 year lifespan, and yes, even a $4K repair is cheaper than what will probably be near $30K to swap everything, but new units may well outlast me. 😁

Given some of the issues I've had with the Rheem over time - mostly it took four tries to get a indoor evaporator coil that didn't leak coolant, although they say they're only made by two or three different factories in Mexico and they all have the same problems - I'm thinking maybe Carrier this time (or Bryant) or Trane.

I have a nice smart thermostat I like and so don't need all the Carrier tech things because I don't have dampers anyway. That makes Trane a somewhat better choice but my Dad never had issues with his Bryant, which is largely Carrier at a lower price point.

What is the general consensus here, especially for the Boulder, CO area? My neighbors all seem to have one of everything, with my next door neighbor still rocking the same R-22 central air conditioner they had when I bought this Rheem pair in 2010. 🤦‍♂️

The HVAC company I used for the install in 2010 and ongoing maintenance was kind of clueless on the initial install (I found out after four years they wired my two stage A/C as a ONE stage by going through the installation manual myself) and also has gotten rid of Rheem and now installs Amana.

Thanks in advance!

Just installed a Honeywell X8S but it doesn't show the snowflake when calling for cooling unless both stages are on.

When I hear the thermostat click on, it says "Cooling to" and the temperature, but it doesn't show the snowflake icon behind the current indoor temperature unless both cooling stages are active.

If the thermostat just activated stage 1, it does not.

Is this expected or due to a firmware change?

Otherwise the way to know whether the equipment is running is purely grammatical.

When off the thermostat will say "Heat to" or "Cool to."

In operation it will say "Heating to" or "Cooling to," on the thermostat or in the app.

DCD1007WW1 on sale at Murdoch's for $224.99, or in combo from Lowe's for $349 with a free second 8Ah battery

They don't say for how long.

The DCD1007WW1 contains:

  • (1) DCD1007 20V MAX* XR® Brushless 1/2 in. 3-Speed Hammer Drill
  • (1) DCB2108 20V MAX* XR® 8Ah Battery
  • (1) Charger
  • (1) Side Handle
  • (1) Belt Hook

This kit is $349 at Lowe's, but at Lowe's it includes a second 8Ah battery free (a “$229 value”), so if you want two 8Ah batteries, it's a better deal to get it from Lowe's as your net cost for the second 8Ah battery is only $124.01.

Better quality from DirecTV these days?

I watch a lot of Hallmark HD and quite often I will see motion artifacts and some blockies.

I recently spent a few days at a relative's house and was surprised by how much clearer Hallmark HD was on satellite DirecTV and there were no glitches or compression artifacts at all. Same with TCM; these days I rarely see a movie on TCM that doesn't freeze or artifact at some point during the movie.

Does DISH just compress that much more highly? All my signal levels are quite good so I don't think it's alignment.

I would ponder switching but I have two large external HDs of content hanging off my Hopper 4K which is 84% full itself (or is it the Hopper 4K itself whose interface is buggier than I've ever seen it before?)

Pretty much the standard lighting for this use case

Every year at the 1940s Ball at the Boulder Airport in Boulder, CO, the owners of aircraft and WWII vehicles need good, strong battery-powered lighting and rely upon these.

I don't get the flipping for 250 tools.

The Lowe's near me hasn't sold any of these in at least the last week for half of what eBay flippers are charging…

u/kfjcfan — 20 days ago

The 250 Series is great, but at the sake of functionality?

One of the advantages of Klein screwdrivers is the end caps let you know what the tip is so you can store them tip down in your tool bag.

When they were designing the 250 Series screwdrivers they apparently went for commemorative over functional and now you have to remember metallic blue is standard, red is Phillips, and silver is square. 🤷‍♂️

Anyone seeing more than a passing resemblance between MAKTRAK and Pelican's new CRATE boxes?

I don't believe Pelican manufactures MAKTRAK for Makita, but based upon the interior of Pelican's new CRATE boxes, it feels like it can't be ruled out…

Which glue gun?

I want to get the ONE+ 18V Cordless Dual Temperature Glue Gun but don't want to spend $99 for a ONE+ starter kit or $105 for the glue gun and battery kit from Home Depot.

I can get the USB Lithium Cordless Glue Gun Kit which includes a battery, but it's single temp. I usually only need to glue one or two things so I don't need extended battery life.

Given that do you think the USB glue gun would be adequate for me?

Can you use padded dividers to store strangely shaped objects?

We store our sound gear in a 1535 AIR and I used the pick and pluck foam as it's the easiest way to store some more oddly shaped items:

• Body packs where the bottom is rectangular but there is a long thin antenna on top
• Headsets

We need to store two of these, and the wireless receivers are obviously no problem.

For the foam, I cut out rectangles less than the depth of the pack so the antenna just lies horizontally atop the pick and pluck foam.

For the headsets, I made curved cutouts in the foam that nicely accommodate the head band and mic booms.

The problem is the pick and pluck foam only lasts about a year before pieces start to fall out and it otherwise begins to wear.

I'd like to use the yellow padded dividers instead, but I can't figure out how to accommodate the packs and headsets in a protective manner so that the antenna and mic booms don't get crunched when the case is carried by its top or side handles, but I don't think that's really possible without cutting something like Kaizen foam inserts, and if I have to do that I may as well get Kaizen foam and cut out slots for everything.

(Sadly, Kaizen foam doesn't last all that long, either.)

TrekPak has the same problem as the dividers, great for round objects like lenses and rectangular objects, but no way to accommodate the antennas and mic booms.

Any other suggestions?

Check your alignment!

I have a 2026 BRZ tS and with a whole 460 miles on it the outside edge of the left rear tire is showing some unusual wear.

I took it to my tire shop and they put in on their rack which showed the left rear toe was out of spec, causing the wear.

For that matter toe is off on both front wheels as well but it drives perfectly with no unexpected wear.

Regardless, Subaru does not consider this to be a warranty issue, even though the car is new with only 460 miles on it, and alignments are never done as part of PDI. 🤷‍♂️

The alignment will be around $150, which is still cheaper than a new PS4.
