Started at 5ft 10in, 237 pounds. I’ve been pretty much sedentary for 10 years now. Was 180 out of university then sat in a chair for nearly all of my day everyday with little exercise and no weight lifting. Decided that in May I would change. Bought a bench press and went at it. On May 1st I put on 135 and did a whopping 3 reps before gassing out. Couldn’t even do a second set of 135x3. Here is my progress I took in my notes. It’s kinda messy and bad format. Also a random curl note thrown in.
May 1st 135x3 bench
1 rep max for bench Friday May 8th - 180
10 reps of 135 May 12th
1 rep max bench - 190 may 30th
June 7th started whey protein powder and creatine

Today I hit a goal I was setting for myself for the end of the year. 2 plates, 225!! I was so happy, literally just smiling and on a high from doing the lift. Guess I’ll have to change my goal to 315 for this year and hopefully I can stay consistent and hit it. Anyway it was nice to go from fat everywhere with no muscle to actually having muscle on my body again.
Started lifting again back in May. Never touched my phone the whole month of May, just did my workout, listened to my music and thought constantly about how to perfect my form, my grip, how to do the rep better to feel more control and think about which muscles I'm activating to do the lift.
Then in June for some god forsaken reason I started browsing social media between sets. Started watching youtube shorts or reels or some other short form bs while I rested. I started to realize I was dreading going back to another set in the middle of my workouts. The dopamine my brain was getting wasn't from the pump or gains of lifting anymore it was the little breaks to get on social media.
So the past week and a half I completely stopped touching my phone between sets. Only turn on my music and do my sets. If I rest between my sets I just walk around for 1-3 minutes and jump back into another set. I started to regain my focus, started to concentrate more on my lift and form and muscles rather than getting the reps done so I can touch my phone. Just being more focused on every lift with no distraction of the "reward" after the set helped me do more reps and remain hyped to finish the workout.
Probably just a personal anecdote but I'm never touching the phone again during my workouts. Just going to go in, stay focused and let the workout be my dopamine.
Only risk is injury which sucks. Have to be careful about what’s heavy and what is too heavy.
Had been doing sets of 8-10 reps of lighter weights and started feeling dread of doing the workout because it would take so long for me to get to failure. Also it felt like I wasn’t actually getting stronger because I would do lighter weight then work up to heavy then back down to light to maximize muscle fatigue. The heavy weights during this felt so heavy.
So recently I have just been doing 2 warm up sets of 10 reps then jumping into a heavy 3-5 rep set and keep doing sets of these until failure. I felt so much more confident handling the heavy weight, got to failure so much faster, and feel like I can get 7 reps next workout session.
I got more and more used to that heavy feeling and actually felt like I was able to get more reps of the heavy weight in the middle of the workout.
I introduce you to Fishers of Men Aquatics. An aquarium/fish store business that recently opened up in May of 2026.
First thing I noticed was it is heavily advertised as a Christian/Faith based aquarium store. I’ve never seen a fish store opening up based on Christianity but I guess there’s a first for everything.
The man was blasting Christianity into every post and comment. Not a problem to me, I'm just here to see the fish stock and maybe be able to shop at a new promising LFS!
But the man was running two businesses and struggled to keep the aquarium one running consistently. Poor guy if only he had some help. I will gladly support him in this hobby since it's hard to find LFS that provide quality fish. Every week the schedule was changing but he finally locked in a consistent business schedule for customers. Sweet!
He was struggling but continued posting his faith to keep him going. Props for staying headstrong.
And then something happened that sparked the beginning of the end for this Fish Store owner. Out of exhaustion he had left his wallet in his car with all his cash from business transactions and someone opened the unlocked car and stole it. He makes a post saying how there's just too many things to handle and is even wanting to sell both businesses and get out all together. It has been 1 month of the store opening.
Then in June a post pops up of the store owner calling all local breeders to contact him and that he no longer wants to deal with wholesalers. I wonder what that's all about. Must have had an issue with his supplier.
Well what do you know, he soon posts a screen shot of him burning bridges with his wholesaler and effectively blacklisting himself from working with any other wholesaler at all. He blames them for selling him terrible quality fish which he then sells to customers. He closes the store officially but will continue to breed as an individual and sell by appointment.
Understandable. Wholesalers often have terrible quality fish and poor conditions of fish husbandry so I don't blame him for being upset with suppliers always shipping out terrible quality that dies within a week.
But then suddenly he makes another post saying he doesn't exist as a business anymore or individual breeder. He won't be selling fish at all! Turns out he killed multiple tanks while doing water changes. Multiple tanks of dead fish after his water change. Did he not dechlorinate?! The man immediately blames the city for doing something to the water that specifically killed all his fish. I don't even think his tanks were cycled.
So maybe the wholesaler wasn't to blame afterall. Maybe the man in the fish store simply didn't know how to properly take care of fish at a large scale before starting his business. Maybe he was simply too exhausted and forgot to do basic things such as dechlorinating water. Either way, I was starting to get a bit concerned doing business with the man. There were just too many red flags and he seemed very unstable and incompatible to work with.
The victim mentality and always blaming someone else for problems he himself created.
But if that weren't enough red flags for you maybe these posts of him hating on gay people, being racist, and a white supremist will do it for you.
But it's just a little bit of hate that's ok right? Won't anyone feel bad for this guy?
Sure he comments that gay people are bad for bringing nothing but suicide rates and depression into society but here he is being depressed. In the closet maybe?
And that is the end of the story. I watched it all unfold in a month how one Christian based fish store owner in the south opened up a promising LFS but quickly revealed himself to be a homophobic racist, and white supremist with a victim mentality that brought upon his own destruction and ruin while blaming everyone around him.
