Mikel Oyarzabal appreciation post

Is there a more consistently good, under appreciated player in the league if not all of football?

I understand why Lamine and others get the headlines they do but I can’t understand why Mikel doesn’t get the same. His stats and ability to consistently deliver in big moments is remarkable

Fixtures questions

Hello all

Was going through the fixtures for the season ahead and thinking about some dates to come up from Spain, both home and away.

Several of these fixtures seem to be penciled in as Saturday 4pm kickoff . Can I assume that’s just a placeholder and possible or even likely to change based on the full PL calendar, TV, etc?

Assuming there are changes likely, would they generally be same day, different time? Or date changes are entirely possible as well to say a Friday or Sunday or even Monday?

How far ahead of a match week do the match dates and times typically become finalised by PL? It’s a challenge to trip plan with the uncertainty of game dates and times.

Thanks in advance

Air Europa

Good morning all

Air Europa recently started flying to my city so I’ve started using them a bit and thought I’d share my observations. Have taken about 10 flights to date.

Generally speaking the flights have exceeded my expectations. They’ve been punctual, the cabin crews have been professional and their prices tend to be lower than competitors across multiple routes. Fleet is B737 on short haul and B787 long haul. Half of the planes seem modern and new, the other half older but in good condition. WiFi is reliable and inexpensive

All of my trips have been domestic Spain or in and out of their Madrid hub within Europe. I haven’t used them for long haul yet but with an extensive network into the Americas would be inclined to try.

Received an upgrade with my FB status with the cheapest economy ticket the other day on a full FCO-MAD flight which was appreciated. Can’t recall ever getting one on KL or AF.

A big part of their Euro biz class value proposition is onboard catering. They’ve partnered with a Michelin starred chef in Madrid to try to deliver higher quality food. My observation was it is definitely better than average. I thought the smoked trout lasagna was a bit strange personally but I applaud the effort at creativity and it was very nicely presented in a casserole pot. See photos

The only real negatives are no lounge access for domestic Spain flights which I believe is a SkyTeam thing and free seat allocation for us starts behind the exit row. Worth noting on Iberia for comparable One World status we get lounge access for domestic flights plus free exit row or extra legroom. That said the crews are quite helpful in helping improve your seat onboard if you show them your status. Also I prefer IB’s T4 to T2 at MAD as T2 can be chaotic but it works well enough as a hub

Summary: I think it’s a really nice Sky Team option for anyone traveling to Madrid, Spain and abroad, certainly at the right price. I’ve always used IB from my home airport in Spain and the Air Europa value proposition is quite good.

Anyone know what this is and where it belongs?

Good morning all,

Found this in the car today. Obviously came loose and can’t figure out where it belongs. Any ideas?

The absurdity of domestic XP earn

A €15/300 mile domestic flight within Europe has the same earn as a €500/5000 mile flight within the USA (JFK-HNL). 2 XP for economy and 5 XP for biz.

It’s a complete disincentive to fly domestic in large countries like the US. So when I go there, guess what, I don’t use Delta and have a significantly larger earn on AA or UA.

I’ve brought this to the attention of FB but of course nothing changes. It’s completely non sensical

Would Canada joining the EU really be that far fetched and how would Canadians feel about this?

Hello all from Europe

I’ve been reading a bit about this recently and am no expert by any means but it seems like such a logical fit and sensible for both the EU and Canada.

Clear cultural fit, economic benefits for both sides, reliable partner to help counter various global threats and aggressors, etc. Even the geography is sensible with Greenland’s proximity to Canada.

The Copenhagen Criteria for membership are:

Stable Democratic Institutions
Functioning Market Economy
Respect for Human Rights
Adoption of EU Law

Obviously the first three are easy and the fourth would be the biggest challenge. Not sure how easy or willing Canada would be on that front.

Is this an idea that Canada would actually want and do? How does that even happen? How does the average Canadian feel about this?

Thanks in Advance

How do you guys rate or rank the shows you’ve been to?

Hello all

For me I’ve reduced it to a handful of factors that are in the mix that determine how much I enjoy a show. In no particular order for me, they are:

Setlist
Venue
My location within the venue
Weather (if outdoors)
Crowd energy
Sound quality
X-factor (eg special guests, etc)

It is certainly very subjective. Two people can attend the same show and walk out feeling very different about it.

Sure they’re all generally great but I’ve had a few less than stellar experiences mostly related to poor venues, bad seats, bad weather and crowd experiences.

Very curious to hear how everyone feels. Can you share some of your best (or worst) experiences and why?

TIA

Barajas T2 to T1 transfer

Hello all

Would appreciate any input on this.

Arriving 955pm on a domestic flight on Air Europa into T2, and flying out 1135pm on a Ryanair flight to Marrakech from T1. Two separate tickets, no bags. EU citizen.

Questions:

  1. Do I need to exit T2 and go through security again at T1? Or can I pass between T2 and T1 airside and only need to go through passport control at T1 to exit EU?

  2. If I can’t stay airside to do the transfer, fast track necessary or recommended at that hour at T1? Looks like there are quite a few late night T1 departures so inclined to fast track if I have to exit T2 after arrival.

Many thanks in advance

FRA v MUC - is one better/worse for delays? transit ?

Hello all

I’m using LH more frequently and curious to hear your opinion on this. About 70% of my travel is within Schengen, 30% outside of Schengen.

I’ve experienced delays at both over the last few years, but have generally preferred Munich, which seems easier for transit and less hectic (particularly passport control).

I honestly can’t remember the last on time flight I’ve had in or out of Frankfurt but maybe it’s just bad luck. It’s just very frustrating, particularly the rolling delays that keep getting extended.

Comments and advice most welcome

Thanks

From a European visitor

Hello all

Was visiting friends in your beautiful city the last few days and thought I’d share these. Quite spectacular although that was some serious smog. I’ve never seen that before

Good summer to all

Help out a visiting European please!

Haven’t been in the states in a few years. Arrived last night, went out for lunch today. Service was awful then got this. Honestly had no idea what the right thing to do was. Do I divide the inflated tip between server and kitchen? Or is it 20+ to server then something additional to the kitchen? Is there a word for confusing + money grab? Honestly would be helpful to know what to do for the rest of my trip. When did kitchen tip become a thing? Do most of you leave something?

Thanks

Good morning all

Visiting from Spain and I come up frequently. I’m trying to understand and make sense of train pricing.

I have a handful of journeys on this trip including routes like Gatwick to East Croydon, East Croydon to St Pancras , Euston to Manchester Piccadilly , Manchester to Manchester Airport.

One observation is certain routes appear to have fixed prices regardless of time of day and date of purchase yet other routes vary wildly. Example for Euston to Manchester in my travel date I’ve seen a range of ticket prices from £10-200 for travel on the same day.

What I’m trying to understand is why this exists and is this predictable. Are certain routes ( eg suburban) more tightly regulated than the intercity routes and pricing is more unified and seemingly sensible. The intercity routes seem to be more unpredictable and free market in nature.

Basically when I see these wide discrepancies I try to jump on the cheapest ticket I can find on travel day as long as the journey is reasonable. But I’m curious how locals manage this

Cheers
