Just finished Gerald's Game for the first time. My thoughts below 👇🏻
Last night, I finished reading Gerald's Game by Stephen King for the first time
Released in 1992 (I was 4 lol) the book is a gripping tale of survival, and what you will do to survive...
My thoughts below;
The story follows Jessie and her husband Gerald Burlingame who is a successful lawyer as they escape to their cabin by the lake to have some "adult fun"
Gerald has recently discovered the joys of bondage and wants to have the privacy of their secluded cabin to have some fun with his wife.
However, things take a terrible turn when, after getting handcuffed to the bed post, and a series of unfortunate events, Gerald has a heart attack and dies beside the bed, leaving Jessie chained to the bed.
What follows is a psychological horror as Jessie thinks of everything she can to escape her confines and freedom.
With the door to the cabin open and banging back and forth in the breeze, Jessie's mind starts to play tricks on her as she thinks of a plan of escape.
To keep somewhat sane, she keeps up a steady conversation with the voices in her head.
In the time she is handcuffed, Jessie hears a chainsaw in the distance, a dog barking, and, is there someone looking in the window at her helpless form?
It's a race against time as Jessie fights off thirst and hunger and fatigue as she goes through each option in her head on a plan to escape....
This book exists in the same universe as Dolores Claiborne and between the 2, I found the latter to be more enjoyable and feel that Dolores is just a better overall character
I'm glad I finally read this book, I started it years ago in my teens and stopped about 20 pages in after getting bored with it. You wouldn't think someone could drag a story of a woman handcuffed to a bed to 300 plus pages. But, King does just that in this book and keeps you guessing as to how Jessie will finally break free and escape.
I am happy to have finally read it all the way through this time and I can now watch the movie adaptation as well.
As I put this book back up, I get my next King adventure out of the display case.
Tonight I begin, Nightmares And Dreamscapes.
Happy Reading Everyone!
