Meet Force!

Force is looking for placement and needs additional medical care beyond what we can provide at the shelter.

Force has several medical conditions, including spondylosis of the lumbar spine, bilateral hip dysplasia, osteoarthritis of the left stifle (knee) joint, and heartworm disease (HW+). These conditions may affect his mobility, comfort, and overall well-being. He needs further veterinary care to help manage his medical needs and determine the best course of treatment.

Force is currently at risk for euthanasia and needs placement.

10/11/26:

Older patient that is arthritic in hindquarters with muscle atrophy over the lumbar spine and hips. Heart and lungs normal. Sedated with Dexdormitor (.5mg/ml) .8cc IM.

DX: Xray (RL & VD View Lumbar spine, Pelvis and both rear legs)=Significant spondylosis down lumbar spine, Hip dysplasia bilaterally and significant osteoarthritis in the left stifle joint.

TX: Carprofen (50mg/ml) 1.8cc SQ

RX: Carprofen 100mg 1T SID 7 days

RX: Gabapentin 100mg 2C BID 7 days

Reversed sedation with Atipamezole (5mg/ml) .4cc IM

Recheck 10/14: Recheck to make sure doing okay on carprofen and gaba. Spondylosis, hip dysplasia and arthritis left stifle joint. FDT is for 10/16

10/11/26: Force was easy to leash and take to the yard with no issues. Once in the yard he stayed near me and would follow me everywhere i would walk. He was a huge fan of being petted and being a Velcro dog out in the yard. Very sweet older pup.

6/13: Easy Going, Good Manners, Good on Leash, Knows Sit, Pottied Immediately, Social (People), Lovebug. Waffles is such a sweet girl! She was nice and calm in her kennel and was good on leash. Went to the bathroom right away spent some time sniffing and then just wanted to come hang out and get all the affection. Also was totally unbothered by the barking dog and very loud children in the next yard.

Loose/Wiggly Body, Wants to Play, Solicits Pets. Waffles wagged her tail gently when she saw me approach. She was easy to get on the leash and bring outside. She immediately began exploring and checking things out. She wagged her tail often while we were together. She knows how to sit and takes treats nicely. She loved playing, she would run after the ball and also run around with me. I sat on the bench and she came over to get pets, when I stopped she indicated she wanted more pets. She had a happy friendly sweet demeanor

Waffles was super excited to get time out of her kennel! Once in the play yard, she was so excited, she couldn't decide what to do, run, play, get loved on...all of it. She was a little jumpy, but not bad, an she settled down. She just needed to get that fresh out of the kennel burst of energy out. She has the cutest personality and is such a joyful girl! I was easily able to get her to focus on me to sit and stay for a video. She just patiently looked at me and stayed where she was for 30 seconds. This girl is a gem and so beautiful!

10/10 Daycation:

Waffles is one of the longest stay pups at the shelter, and we do not understand why no one has scooped up this precious girl. She is a cute little size, loves people, is affectionate, and loves to give kisses. She connected quickly with us and just loves getting attention. We love this girl so much!

George is a gentle, sweet 10-year-old dog urgently seeking a rescue, foster, or adopter who can offer him safety and continued medical care. He has several health challenges, including spondylosis, osteoarthritis, an umbilical hernia, an eyelid tumor, a skin tag, and heartworm, but he remains calm and loving through it all. George walks beautifully on a leash and enjoys quietly following you around without being demanding. He thrives in a peaceful, stable environment where he can be monitored and treated as needed. This senior boy deserves a soft place to land and a loving home to spend his remaining years comfortably and happily.

08/10/26 13:06 foster sent pictures of several lumps on body- attached pictures to this record. Two are on ventrum- a larger growth at ventral midline and a cranial smaller warty mass on chest. One small warty mass is noted on lateral aspect left hind paw. Foster reports P seems to get up and down, very slow and walks slowly and he is bow legged.

8/10: Foster reports difficulty with mobility and slow to rise from laying down. Also has several growths on body- two on ventrum and one on lateral aspect of LH paw (see pics attached in telehealth exam). P is here for HW therapy today.

08/31/26 09:01 when I went to grab him from the foster; the skin tag on right eye started bleeding.

8/31: Alert. MM=Pink. Heart and lungs normal. Abdominal palpation normal. Noted large umbilical hernia ventral abdomen. Pendulous cranial thoracic mammary gland on right side of thorax. Skin tag or wart like growth on lateral aspect of left rear paw. Meibomium eyelide tumor on upper right eyelid. Stiff in hindquarters when walking. Slightly delayed proprioception in the right hind leg. Sedated with Dexdormitor (.5mg/m) 1cc IM.

DX: Xray (RL & VD View Lumbar Spine, Pelvis and both stifle joints)=Spondylosis in lumbar spine L1-L3 as well as lumbosacral spondylosis. Osteoarthritis noted in the right stifle joint.

P: TX: Carprofen (50mg/ml) 2.7cc SQ

RX: Carprofen 100mg 1T SID 7 days

RX: Gabapentin 600mg 1/2T BID 7 days

Will not be a good candidate for heartworm treatment.

Reversed sedation with Atipamezole (5mg/ml) .5cc IM

Will need to have the wart on the left hind paw, meibomium eyelid tumor on the upper right eyelid and the inguinal hernia repaired with full service veterinarian.

Patient will need to be started on glucosamine supplements.

8/30: Immediately showed teeth when approached, snapped and lunged at gate when I reached my hand near.

8/31: When approaching kennel pet was QAR laying on floor, I knelt and slowly came closer to kennel, he maintained eye contact but didn’t move or show aggression. I offered him a treat through the door and he accepted and returned for more, he took them gently through the kennel bars. He even caught a few I tossed at him. He remained stiff in posture during our encounter and watched me closely. Kennel was clean so he might be house trained.

8/29: Cobi is a 5-year-old, neutered dog who has lived with his current family for five years after being obtained from a family friend. The owner is surrendering him due to behavioral concerns, including resource guarding and aggressive behavior toward the owner’s wife and child. He has attempted to bite them but has no reported bite history. The owner reports that Cobi is primarily comfortable with him and does not enjoy being around other people. Cobi is described as playful, enjoys going on runs, does well on leash and is potty trained. He does not know any reported commands and has no known medical conditions.

Bio

Chance is a large male shepherd who arrived severely emaciated and is also battling significant dermatitis that may be related to an underlying autoimmune condition. He needs prolonged nutritional support, dermatologic treatment, and diagnostic testing that can’t be consistently provided in the shelter. Despite everything he’s facing, Chance remains playful, easygoing, and walks beautifully on a leash. He loves treats, knows a few commands, and has a gentle, resilient spirit. Chance urgently needs a compassionate placement where he can receive the specialized care he deserves.

Medical Observations

8/28: P has discharge on OU and scabs under eyes/ P is also very skinny eat well at time of exam adoption.

8/29- BCS = 1/9, muscle wasting, periocular/nasal/lips ( both R & L side, both upper and lower lips at the mucocutaneous junction ) dermatitis. Periocular lesions have purulent discharge. Sedated for skin scrape.

Skin scrape is NPOS. Highly suspicious ( we have no history - trauma could be possible ) of lupus or pemphigus. Dog is a German shepherd/GS mix. Will need prolonged care for dermatitis and emaciation as well as diagnostics ( FNA, biopsy, steroid/Apoquel/cyclosporine trial therapy) to get definitive diagnosis. I am only able to treat the secondary bacterial infection.

Rocky began wagging his tail when he saw me. I leash him up and he walked well through the shelter hallway. We went outside and took a short walk and then we went to the grooming room. He was such a good boy while getting a bath! Afterwards we went back out to the play yard to dry a little bit. He loves getting pets, rolled on his back to get belly rubs. He’s such a sweet sweet boy!

He did seem to guard a toy when he initially got it but once he had it for 2 minutes seemed to relax and allow to take away (waste bag). Overall a great dog on a leash just keep an eye with toys.

7/28: Medium Energy, Good Manners, Wants to Play. Maple was sitting quietly in his kennel when I stopped to meet him. He was easy to leash up and bring outside to the play yard. I threw the ball for him and he immediately ran after it. I learned that he just loves chasing balls! We had so much fun dropping the balls and he would try to catch them all. He wagged his tail often while we were together. He enjoyed getting pets. When I spoke to him he often wagged his tail and looked at me with gentle eyes. He had a playful friendly demeanor

He is a nervous dog but with gentle manners. He was hesitant to come out of the kennel and stopped a few times in the hallway. With some encouragement, he went outside behind DAS and enjoyed sniffing/light walking. He seemed to seek comfort a lot by bumping against me and wanting to lean on me; he seemed most comfortable getting between my legs and sitting down (using me sort of as a shelter). During the slow walk he kept looking up to me and jumped gently a few times. I kept our walk short to not scare him but I think with a few repeats he could totally build confidence and enjoy walks. He seemed very mellow and submissive. He was easy to take back to the kennel.

Doj is a brave and gentle puppy who recently arrived at the shelter in urgent need of help. He came in with a cracked rib (#6), a pulmonary contusion on the right side, and multiple bite wounds on his front legs and neck. Despite his painful injuries, Doj has shown a sweet, trusting nature and a strong will to heal.

Because his medical needs are more than the shelter can provide, Doj is currently at risk for euthanasia. He needs a committed rescue, foster, or adopter who can give him the medical care and safe environment he deserves.

DX: Parvo Test=Negative

Sedated with Dexdormitor (.5mg/ml) .4cc IM

DX: Xray (RL & VD View Pelvis and Lumbar spine)=The 6th rib on the right side of thorax is fractured on the VD View with pulmonary contusions on the right side.

Also noted after sedation, multiple puncture wounds to the right front leg and under neck area. Edema noted on the ventral neck area.

TX: Clipped and cleaned wounds

TX: Carprofen (50mg/ml) .5cc SQ

RX: Carprofen 25mg 1T SID 7 days

7/30: Recheck to make sure comfortable. Fractured rib on right side with pulmonary contusion. Multiple bite wounds to front legs and under neck area. Was eating and drinking fine on intake on 7/29. FDT was set for 8/2. On clavamox and carprofen.

7/30 - Puppy is QAR but moderately dehydrated. No fluids were Rxed yesterday. Eating canned food. Start on LRS.

Ranger is a male dog who presented quiet but alert and responsive (BAR) with multiple serious medical concerns, including suspected pneumonia, dehydration, poor appetite, and an inability or unwillingness to walk more than a few steps for an undetermined reason. He is currently receiving supportive care, but requires continued diagnostics, medical treatment, fluid therapy, nutritional support, and close monitoring to determine the underlying cause of his condition and improve his comfort. This level of care exceeds what we can consistently provide in the shelter environment. Despite his condition, Ranger remains gentle and is doing his best while receiving supportive care. Ranger needs a safe, compassionate placement where he can receive ongoing veterinary evaluation, treatment, and appropriate supportive care in a low-stress environment.

Dyse is such a sweet, calm, older guy. He was lying in his kennel and was easy to leash. Outside, he sniffed a little bit, then just came and sat right down next to me. Has a very sweet, easy-going personality.

Juniper is a female dog looking for a rescue, foster, or adopter who can provide the specialized medical care and support she needs.

Juniper has severe, generalized orthopedic abnormalities affecting her entire skeleton. She has significantly decreased bone density, deformities of all four limbs, and changes to multiple joints that limit her ability to fully extend her legs and move comfortably. In addition, she has abnormalities of her spine, including evidence of previous injuries in her lumbar vertebrae.

Juniper will need a comprehensive orthopedic evaluation to determine the underlying cause of her condition and to develop the most appropriate treatment and long-term management plan. She would benefit from a stable environment where she can receive continued veterinary care, pain management as needed, and support for her mobility.

7/28: Patient presented for limb/gait evaluation

Exam:

MS - Severe angular limb deformity X 4 limbs with severely dropped hocks and carpi, laterally positioned forelimbs with swollen elbow, shoulder, hock, and tarsi bilaterally. Discomfort and reduced ROM X 4 limbs. Slightly hunched T/L spine with discomfort on palpation.

INTEG - WNL

MM pink, CRT M<2

H/L auscult normally

Patient was sedated with dexmedetomidine for radiographs

Radiographs - There is diffusely decreased bone density on all skeletal bones. There is severely reduced bone denisty of femoral condyles with bowed femurs and irregular margins of stifle joints bilaterally with flared distal femurs and humeri. The forelimbs are rotated with significantly flared carpi and all 4 limbs are unable to be fully extended due to the severity of the bone changes There are many poorly defined vertebra with irregular lengths and widths with evidence of previous injuries in lumbar spine.

ddx - suspected nutritional deficiency with chronic skeletal malunion and previous fx. Cannot rule out nutritional secondary hyperparathyroidism

Plan - will need additional diagnostics (bloodwork) and chronic significant care

7/28: hesitant to walk, lays down

7/29: Visited Juniper at the kennel. She was scared, timid, and cowered at the back of her kennel when approached. I was able to leash her, though she was very hesitant throughout the process. Once leashed, she was unwilling to walk on the leash.

Despite being fearful, Juniper was very sweet. She allowed me to pet her and interact with her. She remained gentle and tolerant during handling but appeared very nervous and unsure of her surroundings.

Bio

Meet Luna, a 1-year-old girl who tends to be laid back and social with other dogs. From our observations, she can be a bit cautious around new people and appreciates having her own space, but she accepts gentle greetings. Luna would do well with a patient family who can give her time to build trust. Come meet Luna today!

5/26: Description of concerns: Nasal discharge

Medical Departments Findings:

05/26/26 10:05 Patient was observed today alert and responsive during kennel side

There was evidence of slight Mucoid nasal discharge in left/right/both nares. We have started our standard protocol for CIRDC (Canine Infectious Respiratory Disease Complex) with Doxycycline. This antibiotic therapy is intended to help prevent secondary infections and support the pet’s health while the pet naturally resolves CIRD, with a normal treatment length of 5-7 days. Medical will continue to monitor the patient to ensure symptoms are resolving, if not there could be a change in antibiotics prescribed by the veterinarian.

Rx: Doxycycline 100mg (10mg/kg) once daily for 10 days

7/23: Timid

Luna was easy to get on the leash and bring outside to the play yard. Outside in the play yard she spent most of her time exploring. She was a little bit on the timid side, although she permitted pending with no issues. Initially her tail was tucked when we first got outside, but as she got more confident she let her tail relax. She had a gentle shy friendly demeanor
