It really bothers me how Mojang/Microsoft have completely pushed aside C418's legacy over the past 5 years

I do really believe his music is an important contributor to that runaway success of the game early on. Not the only reason, of course. But I think we all have very distinct memories of our first little shitshack where we've made it through the night and Sweden slowly rolls in, or out exploring in the sun and Oxygene's synths start singing during the midday and disappear within a blink. There's not a whole lot that sticks with me from the early days of playing this game nearly 20 years on, just vague impressions and flashes of walking around one of my builds or a memorable death, but the moments of first hearing a given Rosenfeld track certainly do.

I don't play full vanilla modern Minecraft very often, but when I do it strikes me just how diminished his role is within the landscape of the game. I was playing on my mates' Bedrock server for about maybe 50-60 hours before getting bored (turns out not much has really fundamentally changed about the game in the past 3 years since my last go at a server with them and the way we play doesn't really result in anyone sticking around long-term), and I think by the end I had heard Volume Alpha music maybe twice. His stuff plays more frequently in the main menu, still not that often, but in-game it's just nothing but the newer music, which doesn't hold that air of melancholy and solitude in the slightest. I'm not saying this to disrespect the newer musicians, in a vacuum their stuff is fine. But it doesn't have the magic.

So I was curious why it seems to play less and less over the years and looked it up. Tony Soprano puts it best. It's literally just corporate arrogance thinking they can get one up over one of the guys that helped establish the brand that they make billions off of because he doesn't want to be treated like a cheap prostitute. Genuinely was not hard to just let him keep the licensing for the soundtrack out of some sort of acknowledgement of his talents, but nope. It sucks, because we're probably never going to get that third soundtrack, and I wouldn't even be surprised if they eventually push his music out of the game entirely, the way things are going.

[Discussion] People shouldn't be mad about the new changes because EOD is no longer the best edition. People should be mad about the new changes because the playing field is becoming increasingly unequal to absurd degrees

I already spoke about the changes to clothing a week back. People didn't agree with my opinions about it dulling the distinctions between factions then. Fair enough, I'm aware that's a thing not many people care about at this point. But there's something I forgot to touch on during that discussion that applies much more strongly with the experience changes:

People are basically no longer playing the same game. At least when it comes to progression difficulty. The paid editions have always had a leg up over standard accounts, of course. But with Unheard and the last couple of rounds of extra bonuses, the difference between standard accounts and the supporter editions are incredibly pronounced. Funnily enough, the secure container barely factors into it anymore thanks to all the balancing changes made. But man, as an Unheard player you just get so much free shit. You already get to skip an unreasonable amount of hours of grinding. Bigger pockets should've been a battle belt system with tradeoffs between sizes, not just 'lol here's an extra two mags to fit into your kit for (not) free'. PvE players get an item that just makes the in-raid experience much less painless, and the only reason that isn't in PvP is because people rightfully kvetched enough about it. A whole bunch of extra money, containers, a huge amount of storage space.

Admittedly, that sort of thing isn't that relevant past the first couple of days per playthrough, but now that prestiging is heavily encouraged and seasonals will be a thing, it is in fact a significant bonus that lets you snowball money faster. Now, I'm just going to level 20% faster than a large portion of the people in raids with me and access better gear much quicker. That's nuts. I don't need that.

And the thing is, if you're someone who buys the supporter editions of this game, you probably don't need these bonuses. I bought EoD and Unheard because I loved what I was playing and I wanted to support BSG with further development. Naive, I know. That's it. I don't want all this extra garbage tacked on. A few cosmetic bonuses, yeah, absolutely, why not. The Cultist jacket is kind of poo, but the other stuff is cool. I like the new EoD clothes well enough. But honestly, I wish I could disable everything else. I like the grind. I want more excuses to keep going into raids with extrinsic goals instead of just 'kill everything and leave'. And if we keep getting extra gameplay shit tacked on, this can only go one of two ways:

  • the base progression is made notably harder to make sure that people with supporter editions aren't bored out of their mind, which fucks over base players heavily (you can already see this with the stash upgrades)

  • the base progression is made significantly easier to make sure base players aren't forever stuck behind, in which case players like me do get bored out of our skulls.

Just stop. I don't need any extra perks. And neither do the EOD only players, to be frank. I'm talking about those people who keep making posts about 'EOD is getting screwed over!' Motherfucker, you're just mad you're not the one on top with all the unfair advantages anymore.

If BSG want to generate more revenue, start releasing more clothing sets. (Seriously man, just give me Crye G3/G4 clothes in all the variations not available yet and I'll have spent $100 before the day is over.) Paid voices. Add hair and facial hair to the game. Maybe release some of those DLCs you guys have been talking about since time immemorial. But stop fucking over the little guy.

[Screenshot] Good event! Hope BSG keeps these up consistently, good way to get players coming back and moving around maps that aren't just best for value.

[Suggestion] Give this man some kneepads

He looks so naked without them. What happens to poor little Timmy when he goes tumbling down a slope, huh?!

LITERALLY

unplayable

I wish they took more inspiration from real kit for new cosmetics

There's so many drippy militaries out there that look suitably unique while still being (mostly practical), I wish they'd stop relying on airsoft kits for reference. I looked at most of the new skins from S3 and got disappointed when I realised there's still nothing better than Regiment right now. The 323 look alright as disjointed militiamen, but that's about it, and god help you if you want all your classes in one faction to match without just using the default models.

Please DICE, just let me equip the Regiment skin to all classes

We already have all-class skins, so it's not breaking any rules that haven't already been broken. The best kind of drip is simple drip. I just want to be... not a faceless grunt, obviously this is the typical Delta Forces guy. But I want to be generic. I don't want to be some fancy shmancy named operator part of some super unique elite crew with stupid-looking airsoft kit, three different types of random camos mixed together and a hood with jiggle physics. Just let me be the army man. Hell, make it so the FAST helmet gets replaced with a baseball cap or a boonie if you're Engineer or Recon so you have some semblance of 'class identity'. Sure, whatever. But I just wanna be the guy. Let me be the guy.

Something that I picked up about Red Room that I don't think anyone else has mentioned yet

I was at the Adelaide show on Monday. Fucking great set, by the way. Also would like to give a shoutout to Static Dress, had no idea who they were beforehand but definitely going to listen to their studio material now that I know. Was about to head out the door after the encore of Is It Really You? / Gored. Suddenly, they close the set with a song very dear to my heart; The World Spins by Julee Cruise.

Now, there's a 95% chance that anyone that knows about Julee Cruise knows about her through David Lynch and Twin Peaks. This song plays at a very climatic moment in the original run, I won't say much more than that other than the younger folks here really should watch the show. Anyway, one of the most famous set pieces in Twin Peaks is the Black Lodge, which is also referred to as the waiting room... and the red room.

From reading around it says they named the song after the set they recorded the majority of the material in, but I don't think it's a coincidence. Maybe they set up the room like that because of having Twin Peaks in their mind? Dunno. You could read the lyrics as referring to the fate of one of the main villains of the original run, but it's a tenuous connection.

I wish we got a similar system to this on the M4A1

I know this wouldn't matter to many people. But it'd matter to me.

They should have either done this or made the default M4A1 one of the modern upgrade packages that comes standard with a low-profile gas block under a full-length rail (Block II or URGI).

Some of the new attachments got me thinking. Some ideas

I really wish they would lean into weapon customisation a bit more seeing as they've obviously given up on the idea of the gear in this game ever replicating a real soldier's kit. Maybe one day!
