ISO ski group/meetup recommendations

I think I want to get back into skiing this winter (here’s hoping we get an actual winter for a bajillion reasons), and would love to find a group/Meetup or similar to ski with and make some friends.

I did see that there’s a Bend Ski Club, but judging purely from the photos on its website, it looks like they’re overwhelmingly older folks. Is this accurate? I’m a woman in my 30s, and would prefer to find a group with mostly people in their 30s, 40s, 20s.

I grew up skiing in another state and would consider myself pretty confident and well controlled, but generally prefer fast blues and some blacks rather than aggressive bumps, steep trees, etc. I’m only looking for on-piste stuff, and have no backcountry/avalanche training. I haven’t yet skied Bachelor and will probably be pretty rusty after being off the slopes for several years.

I’d love any recommendations people have for groups or other general ski advice for Bachelor.

Thanks!

Can anyone recommend a fee-only fiduciary in the area?

I’m specifically looking for someone highly experienced in tax planning, portfolio assessment (NOT looking for someone to manage my portfolio and take a percentage), trust/beneficiary planning, trustee/beneficiary/attorney/EA/CPA coordination if authorized.

I want to have a comprehensive consultation this year and may not need or want to be an ongoing client, but I may pursue that option in the future.

Out of curiosity, what generation are you/the users of this subreddit?

I’m curious about the demographics of this subreddit relative to Bend’s as a whole. I’m not using this for a project or anything, just wondering.

I excluded Generation Alpha because I hope no one under 14 years old is running amok on reddit, but maybe that’s wishful thinking.

I used the date ranges that Google AI told me, like any good critical thinker should.

Akawa Butte Fire created its own lightning this afternoon. And the flames were 200ft high. Holy. Shit.

I’m in awe of the firefighters and hope they stay safe.

Who do you recommend for car interior detailing?

My car is very overdue for a deep cleaning- interior only.

Anyone have recommendations for reputable, insured, quality detailers? I’d prefer not to use a mobile detailer- I’d rather drop it off and pick it up.

Thanks!

WHEN and WHERE can you forage for blackberries?

I live in Bend, and while we have a lot of awesome things in this part of the state, blackberries are not among them.

Where in the valley/coast/mountains can I find them? I know they’re sort of everywhere but I’d love suggestions.

When in the summer are they usually ripe?

Thanks so much!

Lost this morning- tan and black women’s snow pants on the Wickiup Plain Loop Trail

I left them folded on a branch out of the snow and rain about eye level and arm’s distance from the trail (in the pink area circled on the map). They weren’t where I left them when we came back down.

I’m hoping someone picked them up thinking they were abandoned or forgotten and was going to take them to the (Devil’s Lake/ South Sister) trailhead, but we looked thoroughly around the trailhead when we got back down and didn’t see them anywhere.

If you were one of the very few other people up on those trails this morning and took them down the trail for some reason, I’d really like to have them back- I’d meet you somewhere and pay for your gas to do so. Is there a lost and found for stuff in the Three Sisters Wilderness or Deschutes National Forest I’m not aware of?

I learned my lesson and won’t leave anything behind on the trail again. My friend I were hiking in the snow and rain this morning and I realized I had overdressed not too long after starting up the Wickiup Plain trail. I took off my snow pants and continued in the jeans I had on underneath, but didn’t have an easy way to pack or strap my snow pants to my backpack.

Speed dating events?

Anyone have any experiences (positive or negative) with the speed dating events in town? I see some from Epiphany Match. How are they structured? They seem potentially fun and also terrifying- just maybe less terrifying than first dates.

I want to learn safe identification for local wild berries, mushrooms, and other fun stuff.

Any ideas?

Where can you eat in Bend for less than $10 (besides Americana)?

Appetizers, beverages, sides, desserts, and grocery stores don’t count.

Top comment Deletes a US State - GRAND FINALE - #49

**UPDATE** the vote will now take place in a poll instead since it’s got too confusing. Vote closes in roughly 24 hours VOTE HERE

There are now only 2 states remaining, Cascadia and Megasota. This is the moment we’ve all been waiting for. What team are you?! The result will be picked in 48 hours, so here’s all the time you need to share and spread the word!!!

I thank all the people who spend money on awards to award my posts which I find crazy! I thank everyone who comments, I thank everyone who upvotes. This game simply wouldn’t work if it wasn’t for your continued support over the last 49 days. It will be sad to see this series come to an end but there will be another one soon, on May 28th. For now though, GET VOTING!

Top comment deletes a US State #48

Hawaii has been removed, the land of tropical beaches and volcanoes is now dead and gone. 3 States remain, Land of the crabs, land of the Mega and land of the Cascadians (I don’t know what to say for them)

TOMORROW is the grand finale, Instead of the usual 24 hours, it will be 48 hours to amass as many upvotes for the 2 sides as possible.

Remember to keep sharing and spreading the word! We need to get this subreddit to #1 in Geography on Reddit. I think we can do it! Thank you all!

I’ve seen more ticks on my dog this year than ever before, so I vibe coded a tick tracking app

I wanted to share a little project that I’ve been working on and get some feedback from the community. I’ve been in Central Oregon for 9 years and only found two ticks during that time. However, this spring alone I’ve found 12 ticks, and my friends have found a lot more than usual as well.

About a week ago I took some friends to a spot with an epic view where I had seen two ticks a week prior. We found multiple ticks in the same location, and it got us thinking... what if we had a place for people to report tick sightings so others could be more informed before going outdoors.

Obviously this isn't something that makes sense for the eastern half of the US where ticks are a daily occurrence, but out here where they're a relative rarity, I think it would be beneficial. What do you guys think?

This is the basic overview and feature set of the app. Please let me know if theres a feature you think we should add or anything we should change.

  • See recent tick activity on a map — color-coded by how recently each one was found (red = this week, orange = this month, yellow = older)
  • Report a sighting in under a minute (no account required), drop a pin, snap a photo, add notes
  • Identify a tick with AI — upload a photo and get a species guess instantly
  • Search any address or trail to see what's been reported nearby
  • Save your favorite spots (trails, parks, your backyard) for quick check-ins
  • Free, no account required to browse or report (sign in for unlimited reports and saved places)

Check it out here: www.tickcheck.us
