Catching & eating birds at sea.

I never really see or hear about, people eating birds at sea. Why is that?

Are sea birds just gross?

Not nutritional enough?

Too scarce?

Or some other reason?

Has anyone here eaten a seagull, pelican, or any other seabird?

Thanks for all the enlightening answers!

I wasn't aware of the protected status of migratory birds

Kinda surprised myself

i didn't realize Aqueous and Battlestar were so high on the list for me, until i had to pick them over other songs.

Thoughts on this

Been watching this guy for a while, but don't really know if they're legit.

Curious if anyone's tried this, or if anyone can recommend something comparable.

Handhelds that don't suck, in 2026

I'm looking for something that can play most PS2, GameCube, and 2d/Isometric/lofi 3d Steam games, and is easily pocketable.

I can't sneak my Steam Deck into work, so I'm looking for something that can still play a lot of my library, while fitting in my pocket inconspicuously.

Battery life doesn't matter. I'll always have access to an outlet.
And I would need it to be able to connect to my BT earbuds. I assume all android handhelds can do that, but I've never used any of them, so Idk.

I'd like to keep it under $450, but I might go over for the right device.
Though the highest performing device isn't necessarily the best here.

The Ayn Thor and Retroid Pocket 6 are like, the upper end of what I'm looking for, but I'm interested in hearing what other handhelds are out there, that are maybe smaller or have other appealing features, that still work for my needs wants.

Basically, I just wanna know what's your favorite pocket handheld in 2026.

Bonus points if it comes in atomic purple.

Gasless laser welding?

I'm curious if there's an equivalent to flux core welding, for lasers, so you can weld without gas?

Micro SD card issues.

I have a Minisforum EM780, with Bazzite on it, and i have a 1tb micro SD card, that I store small games on.

Twice in the last year, ive had the card get "pseudo corrupted".

It stops being readable, and It won't reformat through the Steam frontend, but when i put plug it in on my desktop(also Bazzite), it formats fine, with the Disks utility.

I don't think the card is bad. it lasts months before this happens.

Before hearing protection existed.

Did everyone just have tinnitus/hearing loss before we invented hearing protection?

Becoming a Pipefitter at 40?

I'm a washed up Tool and Die apprentice, who gave up and became a forklift driver/machine operator for 15 years. I didn't have the patience and work ethic to earn my cert when I was 18 in Missouri. Now I'm 38 in Nevada, and looking at entry pipefitter wages, which basically match my current rate at a big soulless factory. Now I'm a lot more forward thinking, committed to long term goals, and appreciate Unions a lot more.

What should I know about entering the trade at this point, and is it even reasonable to start this late?

I'm also interested in Local350 people, who can give me some insight into the industry here in the Reno area, and what my prospects look like.

Metal welds vs Metal Casting studies

Can anyone point me towards any metallurgy studies on the strength of welds, vs cast metal? I'm curious how they compare in a wide variety of stress scenarios, and over time, like metal fatigue. I imagine they both exist in the same state, on the molecular level, since they're both just molten metal that's cooled ambiently, rather than having been forged or rolled, etc. I'm also curious about the effect of welding on parts that have been heat treated/forged, etc, and the localized heating possibly reducing the strength of the metal around the weld.

Not planning to do anything, just curious about the data.

Santa Cruz

Taking a trip to Santa Cruz in June. Has anyone camped out there?

Where are the best cheap places to camp?

Anything I should be aware of?

Car Camping

Taking a trip to SC in June, and I'm curious where the best places to camp are, that aren't gonna get me harassed by cops, or others.

Is there anywhere on the coast that's cheap/free, with good views?

Curious what people's thoughts are on using this rifle at NRL22 matches. I've never been before, and I've been thinking about giving it a shot. Want to keep my investment low, and see what it's like before I invest in something nicer, like a CZ.

I wanted to use a 16" Heritage Rough Rider, but I don't think that's legal.
