I got scammed by an upwork user with a malware.

I joined upwork to look for freelance gigs. I got a genuine looking request to submit a proposal. They asked me to complete a coding test and send me a zip with some legit looking code(I actually looked through the code as it was harmless)

But little did i know they had some malicious precommit set up which basically downloaded malware to my system.

I got a mail from upwork 1 day later and I analysed the zip with codex which is how I figured out I was actually scammed.

I had a lot of uncommitted code and data elsewhere and now I have to treat my laptop as compromised and my only option is to reset my laptop.

I mean upwork should at least verify basic things like this BS. I am so enraged rn.

Fun fact.. I am the mod of the sub and I got scammed at last. The irony is ironic for this one

I got a malware from upwork

I created an upwork profile because I lost my job recently. I am new to upwork.

I got an invite from a user for submitting a proposal and they asked me to complete a task as part of the selection process.

Gave me a zip file with a go code. I checked it out and it was a very convincing piece of code which I had to update.

These mfrs added some malicious script to the pre commit which ran and I was not aware of it. It basically gave them access to my mac.

I got an email from upwork later and I checked it with chatgpt and figured out the pre commit thing.

I feel so dumb to fall for this shit.. but in my defence upwork was supposed to be a genuine thing at least I trusted them to do basic verification.. given that they ask us to go to the moon and back for verification.

I lost months of work on my system. Is there anything i can do to get some kind of relief?

How do I get my 1st customer for my B2B saas product?

I have a b2b saas product. For the sake of this question.. let's assume it's a really good product..compared to the existing products.

How do I find my first few clients??

I am basically a builder (software) and i suck at sales.

I found about 20 contact numbers of my potential clients and sent them whatsapp messages about a demo. 6 responses.

2 flat no

1 agreed for a demo and I already demoed the product

3 said to reach out again after a few days because they are busy at the time

Rest 14 ignored.

My current plan is to pursue 100 cold reach out. Then decide on the next steps based on the result of this 100 outreach.

How to handle compliance as a startup which is at the validation stage??

We are building an e-commerce startup (B2B2C). We have built the product, and currently we are at the validation stage. Basically reaching out to our target sellers and asking them to please join us as a seller. Initial interest seems promising (about 30% are willing to join us).

As we are planning for the next phase soon, we came across a lot of compliance hurdles that need to be taken care of. This would basically cost us more than what we can afford at this stage, and at this stage we are not really comfortable spending time and effort to do it. But we are ready to do everything the moment we reach a threshold (let's say n sales or n paying customers).

Is it ok to ignore such things at this stage for a startup?

We are based in India.

Need Advice: Building a B2B2C Ecom startup

We're an e-commerce startup in the process of validating our idea and have built a website and started reaching out to sellers. The initial interest from sellers is encouraging!

We've identified a lot of compliance requirements we need to address.

Generally, do startups get a bit of flexibility or a "grace period" when it comes to fully complying with all regulations while they're still validating their business model? Any guidance on this would be appreciated!

Thanks!

Edit: I got a response from a bot within 60 seconds of posting..reddit is also fuxked.

Why are my smashes not getting finished??

My smash is pretty powerful, I think... but still it's not getting finished. Meaning the opponent is still able to take it.

I play every day with the same group of people for more than 3 years now. The only reason i can think of is they got V V V good at anticipating my shots??

Any suggestions?

I don't have a video yet. I will get one if necessary.

The tax on my emergency fund interest is 30 percent plus cess

There is literally no support from the govt if I lose my job. I am supposed to deal with it myself.

When I keep an emergency fund, the interest is also taxed. This feels so disheartening.

Is there a better way to hold my emergency fund??

Professor Anand Ranganathan says"Stone-pelting, vandalism, arson, and 50+ police personnel injured. Dharmendra Pradhan is just an excuse—the real aim is to set the country on fire. A 'thousand Nepals' on India's streets will remain only a dream."

Whats the best way to create short videos for free now?

I am testing something out and i want to generate <10 second videos for my instagram channel. The videos are pretty simple a guy and a girl animated avatar talking to each other from a reference image

What i know of:

  1. YT Create: Earlier it had unlimited generations after 12:00 Am (not available now sadly)
  2. Google flow (very limited limits for free)
  3. Meta ai used to let me create videos from images but for some reason not letting me do it now.

Is there any other options??

BillDesk is requesting for additional data for payment gateway

I have a utility app with about 3000 downloads. Some users asked for a feature which is backup of the data.

I am planning to provide that with Google login. But this will be a paid feature. It will cost about 3 usd to 5 usd. 1 time payment.

I am trying to enable payment from Google play console and I am trying to complete the BillDesk kyc. But I am always getting. This message:

Payment gateway usage purpose is inadequately described, Products/services sold are not clearly defined.

My app is not deployed yet with the paid feature yet.

Any idea, what is needed?
