Races you wish they expanded more & races you wish they didn't

For me, it's the Eldarians they should've expanded on. They don't to be party members in anymore but do something else with them beyond 4's lore. I mean, to never be seen or even be mentioned again after is insane. Why put such a big f*cking magnifying glass in-universe on them in SO4? So much intricate lore & it all goes wasted.

Conversely, I think the Muah should've been less expanded. For some things, the less you, the better. It really adds to the appeal. That being the Muah. I think Project Hope was a bit contrived. It just Roak even more important to the universe (namely Earth) despite still being a primitive world hundreds of years later.

My main point being, Star Ocean lore could be as thick as the Trails series. If only they utilized or expanded on more recurring elements to it. Such as it's over 3 dozen or so races. Thoughts?

Anyone else misses when the stories naturally segued into each other

What I mean is, the franchise doesn't transition as smoothly from one story to the next like it used to. I mean, we've been doing this as early as the Fortuneteller Baba Saga. The Tien saga leads to King Piccolo saga, and so on.

Moreover, DBZ is super-known for that. Think about it. After the Saiyan saga they need Dragon Balls. Which leads to the Frieza saga. Frieza attacks, Trunks appears. That's where we go into the Cell saga. however, after that, the next sagas just happen with really no kind of segue.

I mean, the Buu saga is seriously far-removed from where the Cell storyline was. Both in & out of universe. Then there's Dragon Ball Super. Which just crowbars a new story in after the other is done. Sure, sometimes they hint towards a future arc but it's still not as smooth as DB(Z).

Overall, you all get what I'm saying right? Back then, stories in Dragon Ball flowed more naturally than they do now. It wasn't perfect but really speaks to the innovative writing style of Akira Toriyama when it the transition happens. Your thoughts?

Ranking the most mechanically compelling 3D Tales games

In what order would you rank the most mechanically compelling 3D Tales entries? As in which have the most engaging gameplay mechanics. A lot determines this. Such as how well each stat works during battle. The titles for every party member. Equipment (both general & unique). How fluid combat feels. World traversal. Spells & Arte management. But most of all, how fun it really is. Bonus points for innovation if any. And negative points for being convoluted. Be honest.

[Discussion] The more Elves there are, the less useful they become

I've realized recently that elves in numbers are generally not helpful in isekai. Like name how many stories where there's a whole kingdom or empire of elves but only 1-3 elves actually do something. Usually, the human characters do most of the work for them. In isekai, when it comes to saving the world, humans are the ones to do it.

I mean, there's sometimes a prophecy of a human coming to there to save the elves. Yet they can have a whole army & they basically do nothing but aura farm. Look at isekai like My Status as an Assassin or Red Ranger in Another World. So yeah, elves are not very helpful in bigger numbers. Agree or disagree.

Who's she trying to fool here

I mean, think about the situation. She kidnaps Tadano, insults him, & shows no empathy for what she did. And she tries to justify it under that context. When Komi is about leave without saying a word, Yamai is clearly desperate. And desperate people usually say whatever they can to make themselves look good or excuse their actions.

Seriously, I don't which is worse. Either her trying to justify her treatment of Tadano or her attempts to make herself look better. Her bigotry is not exclusive to Tadano. He just takes the brunt of it. Yamai isn't not a good person, even later in the story. But man, early Yamai is the human equivalent of toxic rat droppings! If I was them, I would have left her to writhe. Show of hands?

So, Yo-kai Watch is aimed at adults now, right?

Since kids these days haven't even heard of the series. Nor do they care. What's left of the series name is now primarily targeting adults. Going by what I've heard, most fans these days are in their early or mid-twenties. And with the Pachinko machines, more recent PP collabs, that's definitely the case. I mean, on Puni-Puni you can spend A LOT of money for rewards. The kind of money kids don't have.

Overall, I think Level 5 has realized Yo-kai Watch is washed-up when concerning their younger demographic. But for older fans who are still holding to the ashes the franchise is now, they're the ones Level 5 is going for. Yo-kai watch is like the toy you got your child, but the child threw it away soon after & you picked it out of the trash and you're playing with it. Any thoughts?

Here's a manga I recommend for any fantasy or shonen fans

The Banished Court Magician Aims to Become the Strongest was one I was enthralled with more than I thought I would be. Over 200 chapters in & I'm still not bored with it.

The anime adaption was decent, seriously, I hope they continue it, but the manga was pretty great. Likeable main & supporting cast, interesting fights, intriguing world-building, etc. The art is a little on the plain side but overall, a fine fantasy/shonen manga.

The Era Square Enix largely forgets

I'm in the camp that Square Enix tries to forget most of the 2010s decade of RPGs. I mean, some good came out of that era. But most range from okay, mediocre, or bad. Final Fantasy XIII trilogy being lop-sided. The Secret of Mana remake was underwhelming to say the least. Bravely Second derailing it's predecessor's momentum. Final Fantasy XV coming out unfinished. Or Star Ocean 5 bombing completely.

However, there's the gems which turned things around for them Like Octopath Traveler & Dragon Quest XI. Both of which they've put on more recent consoles like the Switch 2 or PS5. As for the rest of them, they've been left on consoles nearing 15 years or older. Your thoughts on these RPGs being left dried up?

Worst part of the ending

The end of the Edens Zero manga was definitely not the best fleshed out. But which part of the final 10 chapters was the most disappointing?

Cryst-Fairies & being sapient

The older you get, the more you realize what defines sapience. And that's cognitive behavior which the Fairies have demonstrated in droves. Like they're not emotionless robots who carry out their missions with cold efficiency. They've shown to be sadistic & vile once they drop their rouse. Like show spite, hatred, amusement in their cleverness. They taught humans about their inferiority & boast in very a sapient manner. And Bravely Second makes the argument more credible. Airy actively betrayed Providence for Ouroboros. Anne even jokingly refers to "sisterly love". I made a post about this a few years back and I still stand by the fact that they actively choose to be evil. Your case?

When you think about it, this was not a great idea from a rational standpoint

Gran Torino's plan to keep them away from Shigaraki was even less rational than them coming to fight. I mean, Midoriya wasn't just going to let him take OFA. He said so himself it's unlikely. Plus, Bakugou & Deku are far more formidable than the average hero.

Moreover, their plan was to kill Shigaraki, right? Might as well go with the two most powerful students in 1-A. Plus, Torino's overconfidence in the pro's is on the fraudulent side. Endeavor struggled with Shigaraki moment earlier & Ryukyu ain't sh*t to most. The only reason the came close to killing the Ultra-raki was because of those two.

Overall, not a great plan speaking rationally. Even the after the Nomu attacked, Torino still insisted they stay put. Your thoughts?

What does this scene mean now?

Ninjago is one of the most retroactive franchises in fiction. Pretty much nothing pre-SOG is planned out. And this was the moment we all thought the series was finished. Moreover, based on what we know now about the Green Ninja come Dragons Rising season 4, what does this pivotal moment in the franchise mean now?

The chances of Yo-kai Watch♪ ever getting a sub?

We are way WAY past the point of hoping for an English dub for this series, but what about an English sub? I've been looking over the net for a while and still no subbed versions for these episodes of YW♪ seem to exist. I mean, Y-school Heroes got subbed pretty quickly. But I guess that was when the fandom still cared apparently. Plus, when I did find some subs of the first two episodes, they were AI generated! It's slightly better than YW! but still quite awful. Although it still shouldn't be this ignored.

12 Summer Anime I think is being slept on

I'm watching over 25 new anime this season. A bit less than last season and I'm surprised on how much is being ignored. Yes, I've watched a few of the more popular ones but here's are 12 I've watched enough of that I believe are being passed up:

  1. Rich Girl Caretaker: I think the lack of an English dub is why more people are passing on this one, which is a shame. It's definitely one of the more outlandish romcoms of the season but also one of the more unique. Also, it's got great voice work, memorable characters, & a catchy opening. The visuals are okay but not a detractor. Give this one a try.
  2. The World Is Dancing: A story that follows a relatable protagonist in a somewhat historical anthology. First, it has excellent animation & art direction. As well as some nice storyboarding. And the voice acting is pretty high tier. What I'm saying is, this one is not a half-assed attempt. Watch it if you can.
  3. Red River: A classic 90s epic that I'm surprised is just now getting an anime adaption. Well, the anime does capture look of the manga while adding its updated touches to it. The MC is likeable, the production values are decent, & the soundtrack does feel like it came out in the mid 90s. I find it a compelling watch, you might too.
  4. Oh Boy, Was I Wrong About Her: This is also a romcom that suffers from a lack of an English dub. Otherwise, it's a fine watch. I love the chemistry between the two leads. Heck, I love their dynamic with the younger sister. The visuals are quite decent & the voice work is pretty great. Plus, it sports an underrated soundtrack. Lastly, the premise is relatable. I say have at it.
  5. Heroine? Saint? No, I'm an All-Works Maid!: I gave this one a watch because it's author is the same one from that supremely underrated Appraiser anime from this Spring. It's a pretty good watch. Great voice acting, solid world-building &visuals. And an underutilized version of the isekai trope. I think ironically think the MC is the least compelling character of the main cast not to say she's bad. Watch this if your hungry for more isekai this season.
  6. Flaming Dodgeball Girl Danko: A modern sequel to a classic sports anime. It very much has the look & feel of the current manga. And the production values were higher than I anticipated. Along with some solid art direction & voice acting. I think the MC is charming as well. Give this one a try if you're craving a sports anime. Just beware of the fan service.
  7. I Became a Legend After My 10 Year-Long Last Stand: It's visuals & animation are not that great. However, it makes up for that by having likeable characters, great voice work, & a solid plot behind it. I give it points for the first episode being wholly unique. It's in the category of "Epic Fantasy". If that's what you seek, try this.
  8. Thunder 3: It's not saying much, but this is one of the better CGI anime I've seen. That aside, it's an isekai with a straightforward narrative. It's got good voice acting, passable visuals, & the setting has a sense of urgency. There's also some proper world-building. It's a power-fantasy but a typical one. I say it's solid.
  9. Iron Wan Jan: Another classic 90s story I was surprised is just now getting an anime. This one did a great job in modernizing the manga's great artwork. Along with some superb voice work, great art direction, & very interesting information about cultural cuisine. This one has my approval.
  10. Victoria of Many Faces: I love this being a more grounded version of this type of story. An agent flees her country & goes into hiding to live a modest life. The MC is great in how more relatable she is. Not the typical superhuman most other characters of this ilk. Plus, the other two main characters are charming in their own way. Along with some solid visuals & surprisingly good storyboarding. Try watching if you're curious.
  11. Dara-san of Reiwa: One of the iffier ones, but it's rare to get a horror-comedy anime these days. It actually got me in the first few minutes. The three main characters are very entertaining together. The voice acting is hilarious & it's got some solid world-building. Plus, it can be strangely dark at times. Like it can be iffy but that might be part of its charm. Give it a watch & decide.
  12. Insipid Prince's Furtive Grab for the Throne: I think what makes this one interesting is the political intrigue & character interactions more than the action. The action is fine, but the inner workings of the world are what makes this series work a lot. There's a charming main character who low-key carries every scene. Solid voice work & soundtrack. I say the visuals are passable. Overall, it's a fine watch.

I haven't watched as many anime this season as I did last, but these are the ones that come to mind when I'm thinking of the slept-on ones. Some would argue the Sparks of Tomorrow, Love Unseen Beneath the Clear Night Sky, Draw This, Then Die!, or Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia. I think those are getting the appropriate amount of viewers & attention. Either way, what anime this season comes to mind when you're thinking of the concept?

This JRPG not being a total failure is the best thing I can say about

One month later, it sold not great but not awful either. Otherwise, it's flawed pretty much everywhere else. It's gameplay, immersion, pacing, & it's asking price. And along with releasing at the time Granblue Fantasy Relink: Endless Ragnarok did. Which people have nothing but praise for at half the price. Overall, this joins Bandai Namco's increasingly lengthy list of asinine decisions in the 2020s. Your thoughts?

[Thunder 3] Have to admit, this was wild!

Those aliens don't even bother to reason with them. No warnings, not even non-lethal shots. They kill the people in front of them & vaporize who's left. That is brutal! The main characters might not have much urgency in this anime, but the world around them certainly does.

Best World-building

World-building is one of the best things about fiction. And RPGs are no different. So, which Bravely game has the best of this element? What entry creates the lore, characterizes the setting, & manages to compell the player in the world in the most natural process? Be honest.

Could the Yo-kai Watch Switch version be successful if it released in the West?

Okay, I've ruled out that Yo-kai Watch 4 wasn't a successful game by any means. So, it getting a release in the West isn't happening. But could the first game be successful here if it was on Switch 2? Back on the 3DS, YW1 did fairly well. 400,000 copies sold isn't bad at all by that decade's standards. It's every other game after it that sank in the West.

Secondly, the Switch 2 is already a success & is getting a ton of games ported over to it. I know Level 5 isn't on the best terms with Nintendo, but every game they've released since they returned to the WW market has been on a Switch console. Even if the franchise's reputation is in the toilet right now, there's still an audience for games like it. Especially RPGs.

However, I'm mean a real success. Not just a few thousand copies. Because I don't think only the subreddits are enough. What's your take? Could it be a decent success WW on the Switch 2?

Should've done more with this gimmick

The mini-tournaments arcs are one of the best about the BW anime despite the series being universally unfavored by the fandom. However, maybe more shoved been done with them. I'm now in the camp thinking BW could've benefitted from being longer. Like make them 6 or 8 episodes to make more character interactions. Make the battles not so rushed. Or build actually character arcs around them. The only one I think of was that Scraggy Focus Blast Ash had a problem with. Accurate to the games, but it went nowhere. I mean, BW suffers from pacing anyway in its latter half. Specifically, after the Unova league. So. I'd just cut a few of those episodes to make room. Your thoughts?
