I’ll go first- the Medusa pleco!
Let’s dive into hermit crab care BASICS. 10 gallons per crab, 80% humidity, 80°f air temperature, 6+ inches of sand, fresh and salt water in pools deep enough to submerge in. They can live to be OVER FORTY YEARS OLD. Not just a cute gift- but an expensive pet that will outlive your dog and cat. See above for my personal crabitat! Not to mention almost all hermit crabs are wild caught and very few will survive, leaving you heartbroken with $500 of crab supplies.
I got this crab into my possession yesterday, and I’m in need of a large piece of lava rock for the tank. I cannot use an organic materials as they are extremely sensitive to decaying matter. Also; don’t always trust pet store employees. When it comes to crabs they never know what they’re talking about.
Helen is sort of a mystery at the moment lol
40 gallon breeder with 6”-8” of sand/cocofiber, a large water section for freshwater, I’ll get a solid glass lid, and can keep the humidity high. I’ll put a ultratherm heat mat on the back above the substrate to keep it warm. Let me know what your suggestion needs for heat/humidity! (I keep hermit crabs so I’m well versed in the crab world :)

My LFS claims these “Javanese hermit crabs” are freshwater. I don’t fully believe them. Are they?? I can’t find info online.
it’s labeled as a “white phantom crab” and is $30. It’s large, about 4” across, milky white with thick legs. Definitely a land crab of some sort. Any ideas?
Make me an offer!
How can I prepare the cage in a way accessible to both my less than a year old girls as well as my over 2 year old boys?
I would like to know what temp and ph you keep them at as well. Reproduction rates, if any? What do you feed, what do they seem to like the best?
These guys are so unique, I love them!
Each picture is a different fish. Wondering if anyone can guess which sex they are?
He bites his fins, has had fin rot, bites his fins to the point of fungal infections, won’t gain weight, survived dropsy, you name it, he’s done it.
Parameters are PERFECT; 0 ammonia and nitrite. He lives with 3 black khuli loaches and a butt ton of shrimp. 20 gallon long, heavily planted. Botanicals galore. No matter how much I feed him he just won’t seem to gain weight in his tail area!
