The old moss support was screen, a fine mesh. That didn’t allow water to drip down, and it caused some clumps of algae. That’s what moss turns into when it dies, all the algae just gets spilled out of the leaf structures.
The bits of moss were retrieved and I started again with a wider gap screen, used for embroidery. It just sits in a tank and gets misted with water.
My local park has, strangely, gotten some moss growing underneath some of the trees. It’s like badge moss, a very wide leaf variety. This small thread type moss came from the park near a water source.
