David really messed up with the Swindon lot.

David really messed up with the Swindon lot.

I can empathise a bit, I remember in some jobs trying way too hard to impress people and it massively backfiring. And I remember one job where we had a mass intake of new starters and the culture shifted massively and I didn’t really feel part of the social vibe in that office (I subsequently naffed off).

But even David being half as prattish and half as complacent could’ve survived the merger. But the David that we saw is 100% responsible for his own downfall.

How far did the average Roman resident live from their workplace and how did they commute to work?

Maybe a silly question I know, but commuting to my job in London, taking the train, waking up, grabbing a coffee etc, got me thinking.

Was Rome in the morning just a horde of people walking to whatever market stall or blacksmith’s they worked at?

Did Caesar have to commute by foot to the forum?

What’s the deal?

Is David the only staff member that didn’t benefit from the merger (besides Malcolm)?

Tim - got off with a hot girl for a time and made friends fairly quickly with that lot and didn’t seem to get his nose out of joint or inconvenienced bar the love triangle.

Jennifer - made partner.

Gareth - made manager.

Neil - promoted to area manager.

Finchy - got a shag in the car park and stayed pretty much the same. Plus got to see more of Neil, who he is quite fond of.

Dawn - desperate to leave Wernham Hogg and did eventually. Lived in the states for a bit. Wouldn’t say she benefitted but wasn’t inconvenienced.

Brent - every bad thing that happened to David was as a result of the merger. Lost his job, his reason for being, the respect of his peers, everything.

Hit and Run scumbags - car was parked and I wasn’t even in there.

Reposted to cover my reg (I’m an idiot)

I park in a car park about 5 min walk from my house because only affordable parking in Hemel Hempstead. I only drive for work and because I’m WFH, that can be once a week, once a day if demanded or once a month.

I go check my car and see that. No note, no acknowledgement I don’t know when it happened so what can I do? I call police and straight up say “this happened a week ago so I don’t know when”. I stupidly parked in the centre of that car park and I’ve only been in this town and that car park a couple weeks, I had no idea I was at risk but in the ten mins I was in that car park calling police about four teenagers come speeding in (one had full L plates) with no regards, so I can see what’s happened to my car really and now I feel stupid not parking at the side.

I called my insurers - because they can’t recover, it’s basically a fault claim, I lose my NCD, I pay £500 excess and I’m the one suffering.

Some scumbag has driven into a car park like a complete T*T, hit a PARKED car in a car park (I’m sorry but if you’re hitting a parked car in a car park then you’re driving like scum), and fled and didn’t leave a note on my windscreen. Absolute scum.

And now I lose 1/4 of my wages. I lose my NCD and I’m paying double an insurance policy next year.

Why’s life so unfair.

This guy is a complete worm btw. Turns on David the second a new lot comes in, and is an OG Slough employee but cannot wait to turn on David with the Swindon lot. Biggest rat on the show.

After different strokes, David Attenborough can now rest peacefully at 100. “At my age, I really enjoy watching American 80s sitcoms and having a nap atterwards,” he is believed to have said.

M (39) in a one year relationship with F (35) and she is arguing and condemning me over a YouTube short that I sent her.

Just for context. We’ve been together a year but we don’t live together, as I just got divorced and sold my house and it’s been complicated living on my own.

A few months back, I called her about my mom, we don’t have a good relationship (me and my mom) and I just wanted to vent how much this hurts me. She then kind of hijacks the convo to talk about our relationship because rather than listen, she was like “oh is this why you do xyz” and the fact that she did that kind of hurt me and stuck with me, and we ended up discussing our relationship at length and my feelings about my mom went unresolved.

This was awhile back but it hurt.

Anyway, last night, I sent a YouTube short (without context) where Sean Connery endorses slapping women (google it if you don’t know - it’s horrendous). She started going “is this what you want to do to me?” And I thought she was joking. And then carried on saying “you sent it as a threat”. I thought she was joking and said “is this a joke”.

Now to be fair, I didn’t give context as to why I sent it. But I’m kind of like that, I randomly send stuff hoping to ignite a reaction.

But TO BE CLEAR. Sean Connery is my favourite actor and his comments are a disgrace, hence why I was so shocked and disappointed, because I really like the guy. I do not endorse what he said.

Anyway, I really didn’t think anymore of it. But she calls today and says “oh and those threatening videos you sent me”. And I lost it, I said “fine I’ll never share with you anything again” then mentioned how when I tried to discuss my mother she made it all about her and now she’s doing same and in anger said “you’re so me me me me me”. I said that it was so disappointing that I share something with her and she makes it about her and then accuses me when my stance is 10000% against that. I mean, I’ve not once shown any hints of violence to her in over a year, and I have regularly made my stance as being a feminist known. But I was annoyed that a silly YT share was even being discussed like this, so rather than calmly say, I said that I was annoyed and that she’s making me just not want to share things with her.

Her reaction was - fine let’s break up then, if you are going to be the kind of man that won’t share with me.

I was like - ok fine.

Because I was mad.

Then she said - why have you got to argue everything.

She’s right, I can be defensive but I said - if you’re going to jump on me about something like this, don’t I have the right to argue and defend myself? Why should I just accept you saying I encourage DV?

Like, if I feel justified, why should she say to me “don’t argue and accept” that’s not fair?

Now I get the whole thing about DV being a trigger but she’s told me about her history and never mentioned DV. I also get that you could say “well maybe you don’t know” and I get that. But she never asked my stance on it after I sent it, she jumped straight into condemnation. I do not endorse what Connery said ONE bit and if she really knew me the way I hoped, this shouldn’t be a doubt in her mind. I’m not perfect but I don’t slap women ffs.

Also, I want a partner that is a safe space for me (within the limits of good taste) that I can discuss dark topics with, or discuss politics and pressing issues. She is not creating a safe emotional space for me. The other thing I think in all this is, maybe she’s just not for me, I want someone I can randomly share thoughts and interests with, and when I’ve tried to do that, she takes it personal.

TLDR - a YouTube short about DV led to her accusing me of “making threats”.

In an era of logos and shirt sponsors and replicas going for £150. It’s mad to me that there was once a time that they just wore a plain T shirt of their teams colours without even a logo on it. Pure PE kit vibes.

What will help me scratch my Winds of Winters itch?

I am not a huge fantasy guy, but I really loved ASOIAF and the world created within. I watched the show but the ending was so bad, it's kind of spoiled any future rewatches for me, I just can't enjoy the good seasons anymore knowing how it ended.

If I wanted a new world building kind of fantastical adventure, while I wait FOREVER for the Winds of Winter, what do you recommend?

The Soviets really did just put all men behind the siege and absorb pressure before hitting the Germans on the counter at Stalingrad, such negative tactics. Say what you want about the Germans but at least they turned up to actually play and attack.

What’s your historical event analysed like a football pundit/fan?

What the hell is “cui”

Every time I get a sentence with cui, I translate it into English and the cui seems completely unused in the English translation. What even is cui?

A1 learner, how do you recommend I use resources like books and comics for learning?

Right now, I’m creating ElevenLabs audio and reading and re-reading so certain words make sense but given my beginner status, I’m really struggling with grammar and sentence structure.

Flat tyre hell yesterday

I need somewhere to rant!

So, I'm on the M1 yesterday and I get the warning CHECK TYRE PRESSURE and I can feel and hear the tyre go. Luckily, services were only a mile away. I pull into the services and pull up next to the air and gas machine, the machine is situated near where the gas services for lorries are.

As I pull in, one lorry beeped another and the guy put his head out the window and screams "fuck off you c**t" at the top of his lungs, so my first thought is, wow these lorry drivers are tightly wound (which I was later proven to be true).

Anyway, I pump the tyre up. I'm checking the others, and I realise, this isn't just a flat, it's a full on puncture. I'm on my phone checking nearby repairs or what to do and a lorry is behind me. Bear in mind I'm at the air machine, so people often stop here, he motions with his hands to move, I say "I have a flat", he beeps, I say again, I have a flat, this **** sits on his horn going BEEEEEEP BEEEEEEEP BEEEEEEEEP in his lorry, continuously, he is just non stop beeping. And he had space to go around me, I'm adamant.

The old me would lose it, I can have a bit of a bad temper, and I'd be screaming obscenities at him and stonewalling. But I actually tried to demonstrate stoicism, I told myself 'he's not the problem, the tyre is,' and with all the restraint in the world, I moved my car somewhere else.

Then I drive a further 10-20 miles into Dunstable (near Luton) and go to the first repair centre I find - 'no sorry, we don't have any tyres'. I go to another 'no sorry, we don't really do tyres'. Then I find a Halford's owned national TYRE centre and I get 'sorry, we can't book you in,'. At this point I've been driving on a full flat for an hour and I have to consider my breakdown recovery service. I go to another garage, and by that point I'm driving on the rim with a bit of soggy leather in-between. This guy tells me of a place two mins away, and he puts more air in the tyre as an emergency barrier.

I finally get somewhere, and these guys are super nice, have the right tyre and change it for just £71. When they pull the tyre out, the guy says 'that is the worst bulge I've ever seen'. Because I've been driving on a complete flat for so long, the tyre was literally ready to burst. I feel a bit stupid and naive, as for one I didn't have a spare, two I probably should've taken the safe option and got breakdown recovery right away and three driving for so long on the flat was stupid. But tbh, I've never broken down with a flat before, so it was a bit of a trial and error situation with me.

And of course, like the weirdo that I am, I replayed the arsehole lorry driver situation in my head over and over again, and wound myself up at letting that guy bully me off the road in a an already shit situation lol. But I still think, it was better than trying to 'win' a pathetic road battle.
