My issue is sentimental items from my childhood. Any advice from your own experiences?

They remind me of little me.

Been thinking about photobooks but there's something special about touching them.

I've also saved every birthday card I ever received. On the fence between making an album that I can continue to fill or just tossing 99% of them.

Anyone else that realized that why you have been insecure/shy your whole life is probably to do with the way your mom speaks to you?

I'm soon 30 and feel like I realized this so late in life?? It just recently dawned on me. I realized I feel more confident around strangers than her. Whenever I see her I feel tense and judged. My mom/our relationship has rubbed me the wrong way my whole life but I've had such a hard time articulating why/what it is.

Anyone else?

My mother is a self centered, overbearing, exhausting bulldozer. Anyone else who experienced this and managed to become more respected where your boundaries and decisions are not up for discussion?

My estranged parent hasn't reached out or tried to fix things, but sends me birthday money every year even though I'm soon 30. Anyone else experienced this?

Feels so weird. I text "Thank you" every year, thats it. 6 years no contact apart from this.

Is it common that family have less empathy for a member that's noticeable sick with depression than a more visible physical illness?

Have some trauma from being awfully depressed for a few months and neither my mom or husband seemed to care/worry that much. It was more like they where frustrated with me for not getting better.

I was truly SICK and needed help, no "teenage angst" or silly behaviour. I was 28.

Fog + dörrlist, help a girl out!

Nyinflyttad!

Any one else whom's mom or MIL is incredibly full of her self?

My mother is so full of herself/smug to the point I find her hard to be around. It's like she thinks she is the best, knows the best and that other people are stupid, uninformed and below her so she want/has to teach/educate others.

She treats servers, cashiers etc like peasants.

She is the queen of unsolicited advice even in the most inappropriate moments, which often hurt more than it does good (always saying stuff like "can't you just do x?"/saying how they should solve it to someone whom just shared something vulnerable) She never offer quiet comfort or an "ah that sucks!" - just what to her seems like the obvious solution.

She also tries to push her beliefs on other people (not religious more stuff like her diet "that makes her feel so good", nagging others to read books she read, intermitting fasting, herbal medicine, mindfulness etc) I introduced her to mindfulness (gave her a book) because she's been burned out before and been running on cortisol her whole life. I'm happy it helped her but I've kind come to regret it because now she never shuts up about it.

If it was me I would have wanted to know if a behavior I had where this burdensome but I know her to well to even try because she always shuts down any form of critique, often turning it around to that it must be the other persons perception of what happened not reality.

Her constant educational-mode makes the power dynamic when speaking with her very odd, since to be polite people often fake interest/enthusiasm. It's like everyone else is her student or employee rather than equals.

It honestly sucks and I wish it wasn't like this.

edit: Forgot to mention she also almost always questions me when I make a decision so I have to explain myself and then "Wouldn't it be better if..." and is in general a dominant, bossy person.

Does a filter-head in the shower help against hard water?

Any other tips? I finally found a routine that made me love my hair, it was so healthy, only to move to a place with hard water 😭

My mother exhausts me so much the thought of managing her on top of potential children in the future is just unthinkable. Anyone else?

I'm back and forth but I think I want kids. At the same time I'm finally more peaceful in life since moving out at 26. (way too late due to crazy housing market where I live, wish I moved out earlier renting looking back but I was raised rent is throwing money away). I'm 29 and married now. Always felt more mature & like the parent of her than the other way around. She calls, texts and want to see me way more than I want. She often act superior & belittling and is very emotionally immature. She lacks boundaries, loves unsolicited advice more than anything and is incredibly full of her self.

I recently realized my parents is probably why I'm quite shy and insecure.

When I was a teen I wanted to be a young mom (which to me was 28 lol) now I wish I could wait until 40.

I hate when my mom calls & texts. How do I space phone-chats more? Anyone who succeeded?

First thought of deciding one day a week when we call, but honestly even once a week feels too much for me and I don't like the feeling of obligation.

I feel rude not answering & feel like I then have to get back to her asap, making it hard to feel relaxed.

This week she called me 3 times and texts in between. It's been driving me nuts. (Usually she calls more like once every 5-7 days ish.)

She mainly calls me since I never get the chance to feel like it.

I always feel tired afterwards and like she stole an hour of my day.

Love her but she's quite self centered and by some reason often makes me feel small, can't pinpoint why. For reference I'm nearing 30, adult daughter.

Adult children: do you ever feel like you just want your family of origin to leave you the heck alone? I (F29) feel very chased by my mom (F62). Any advice how to create more distance?

I just feel like my whole life was on pause as a kid/living at home. (Not that peaceful environment, two emotionally immature, high conflict parents with a shitty toxic relationship, enmeshment & parentification for me etc I'm estranged from my dad) I'm finally free to live my own life and I want to spend the little free time I have with my husband or alone working on hobbies and side projects. Not thinking or talking about past or present family drama & having dinner once again with the people I had dinner with every night for 26-ish years. (Lived at home for way too long due to shitty housing market, wish I hadn't.) I feel like my mom is constantly chasing me to plan when to see each other next. I love her and my brother still & feel guilty but honestly I don't want this close contact anymore. I just want peace & be left alone to live my own life.

Any advice or experiences?

I don't feel confident anymore. I feel so small. Those who went from unconfident to confident, how did you do it?

Any advice appreciated! I want to like myself & feel confident again. I feel like I lost myself, who I am, what I like, playfulness etc I feel beaten down by the world kind of. Family drama/issues, previous comments by previous mean co-workers etc

My pregnant sim had TRIPLETS while I wasn't there, why?

Haven't played since I was a kid (sims 2), when I last played the game was paused while playing other families. Is this a "new"/sims 4 thing? Can I turn it off? Very disappointed I missed it, didn't even know twins or triplets where possible! The fam already had 3 kids before lol.

On top of that they got auto-named to Ulysses, Pierce and Trevon 😭 I know you can change names in "plan outfits" but doesn't seem to work with infants. Any other way to change it or do I just have to wait, get used to the names and then feel too weird about re-naming them? Maybe I should just keep the names for the lolz! 😂

Playing sims again as an adult is so fun!!

I miss my estranged parent. I sometimes think of reconciling but I'm afraid I'm fooling myself/sweeping shit under the rug due to well....love. Any experiences?

It's been over 6 years. It's my dad. We are more similar than me and my mom and I guess I miss relating to him. But he is also self-centered, emotionally immature, neglected me emotionally and I went no contact because he "finally" hurt me physically. And while he made a half assed apology a few years back like 1-2 years in "it's just the way I am..." (surprising though since I didn't think he was capable of apologizing) he never reached out saying he misses me/want things to be different. He sends me money on my birthday every year thats it. So well...
