Why are some older Gen Z/Zillennials scared of losing the young label?

Especially those born around 2002, we are turning if not already 24. Like you are grown grown now. You don’t look and aren’t 18-20 anymore. We already graduated high school, most passed the college stage,(18-21), already hit the 16, 18, 21 milestones and now we’re no different than someone who is in their 30s. The next years in your life are 25, 26, 27, 28, 29 and that’s not youth. I’m honestly excited to be in my 30s in just 6 years but it’s annoying when I see those my age still claiming “young” or in their“youth” like grow up lmao. People will say “who is settling down at 24?”, like um many. I know many from college and hs (mind you from a lower income community) who are already engaged, married, and or have kids. Also the brain developing at 25, has already been proven to be a myth and even then, you’re ridiculous enough to think months to a year is big in that regard? Anyways you’re not young anymore like someone born in 2005-2006 and that’s ok…

Why do people commonly refer to 24 as early 20s when it’s not…?

In many online discussion boards and real life discussions, many will refer to age 24 as “early 20s” when it’s not. It’s clearly mid 20s.

I feel awkward being a 24 year old uni student this fall…

I’m a 23F, will be 24 in the fall, and I’m trying to go back to uni this fall but I can’t help but fear I will feel awkward around the 18-22 year old students. I graduated HS in 2020 and went straight into uni but because of the pandemic and mental health issues, I did a year and then left uni in 2021 at 19 to take time to focus on myself.

I have been trying to make the best of my situation as I plan to go back this fall which will make me a 24 year old college student (probably 26 when I graduate as I plan to knock it out in 3 years), and I will be traveling for the first time out of the country solo to Iceland in August-September, as well trying to go out more socially this summer with my friends to just enjoy life but I still feel like an imposter for some reason.

I pass in looks for 19-21, and still feel young while also being more serious/mature than I was at 18-19 but because I still look close in age and most wouldn’t bat an eye at me being years older, I will feel weird/awkward if a 19-20 year old tries to befriend me. I know I’m probably overreacting but i just don’t know how to shake this feeling away.

I need to vent. I feel like an imposter and no longer young at 23-25 regardless of me trying…

I’m 23, will be 24 in the fall, and already 25 next year and I have been thinking of my 24-25th birthdays so much since the year started.

I have been trying to make the best of my situation as I plan to go back to uni this fall which will make a 24 year old college student, I’m getting my first tattoo for my birthday that represents growth, I will be traveling for the first time abroad solo to Iceland in August-September, as well trying to go out more socially this summer with my friends who are 22-23 but I still feel like an imposter for some reason.

I still feel and look, and act vibrant/young while also serious/mature when needed but I wonder what if I’m going through a life crisis like those who have a midlife crisis doing big shifts in their lives trying to still feel young. Also I feel I’ll be giving grandma status since on campus I will be much older (2-6 years) than the 18-22 year olds which makes me feel weird and awkward. I know I’m probably overreacting but i just don’t know what to do?

Would a 24 year old in college stand out? (out of youth or aged)?

Just wondering since many seem to believe 24 is that age where you’re out of your youth and more settled down plus the loss of collagen starts.

Is $5000 enough to visit Iceland from Boston solo in September for 7 days?

I’ve heard Iceland is expensive but I just don’t know/can’t find what the recommended budget is for a week in Iceland. I would like to stay at a hotel or anywhere with a private room/area as well as renting a car.

Do you feel like the 20s age group is longer considered as young today at least by the young gen standards today compared to older gens where it was “romanticized”?

I feel like when I was a kid even in the 2000s and early 2010s, I would always hear about the 20s being seen as your “prime” where teens would want to be older/“cool” like those in their 20s and the 30+ age group nostalgic and wishing they were young and 25 again. Nowadays teens fear to turn 20 and 25 year olds feel old and out of their prime/youth. Do you feel like this is a real shift. What happened? Is social media and smartphones to blame? The economy? But even Millennials I feel enjoyed their 20s more and they had a whole Recession!
