Am I "Cut off"?

Recently there was a death of a loved one in my immediate family (about a month ago). My SO has since had two dreams in which this loved one visited them and the message was conveyed that they're ok. It's either that or they're just visiting because they want to be back, aren't sure what to do, etc. (not sure, because that spirit was an dog).

Now I do not subscribe to any religions but I am highly spiritual. I believe in an intelligent creator/source (that is indifferent/non-judgmental to its creations), non-local consciousness, sentient consciousness post-physical death and the theory that sometimes the other realms of existence can be peered into and communication can happen. Believe might not even cover it, not even sure if faith does - I know these things to be true in my very core existence.

I have had several close family members pass on (humans) and I do grieve, but to me it's more like someone is just going away to college or something. Not that they're ceasing to exist. For that reason, I don't ever really get too sad. It's definitely sad, but I am never really devastated like most people are when a loved one dies. I would feel this same way for even the absolute closest of family members who pass on.

The reason I bring all that up is because I want to know if it plays a role in the fact that I never receive any communication from these souls after they pass on. No dreams with comforting visits, no odd signs or cryptic communications. Nothing. I worry that maybe because of past mistakes or bad decisions, that my soul might be tainted in such a way that it either prevents communication, or it is not desired, and I am cut off. It is an odd feeling that I don't know exactly how to describe or explain.

I don't even really know what insight I'd be seeking because I know the classic response is going to be to convey a message to the source of repentance or some other religious connotation - I don't think it works like that. I believe each of us are on our own and we judge our own instances in this physical life at death, but then move on to the next "thing" either way - no interference or forgiveness being handed out by some authority figure.

I don't know, every now and then this thought pops into my head. It could just be that I get crappy sleep and have trouble remembering dreams/sleep travel.

Speakers

So I'm just starting out researching putting together a hifi system. What are some good brands of speakers to keep an eye out for at thrift stores, online listings or auctions? There's so many brands and models out there. I usually just google them when I come across a pair to see what the general consensus is. Obviously it's going to ultimately be up to my ear and room. I listen to a very wide range of music from metal to classical so a pretty balanced flat response is necessary.

Budget wise, I'm cheap. If I can find it for dirt cheap, better. I don't want to spend over maybe $150 for a pair of speakers so if I can find a bargain for a half-decent brand/model, awesome. But I need some brands/models to keep in mind so I can jump on deals quickly without having to research too much.

Momentarily Connected through Time

I had a really strange experience during a boring engineering meeting this week. I've been getting really crappy sleep lately so I've been like a zombie in the AM and these meetings are boring, often just regurgitating the same crap we talked about the week prior.

Anyway so I was just resting my eyes as colleagues yammered on. I wouldn't say I was really close to dozing off or anything, but definitely not paying attention to the meeting and just sort of relaxing in my head. Definitely not hypnogogic at any point. Suddenly a memory hit me, of a time when I was a kid. I was laying on the couch in what we called the "family room" (it was next to the dining area/kitchen, had a tv, dart board and couch) with the tv on, and I was sick. I remembered everything about that exact day and instant in time because I was sick with a cold. I stayed home from school that day and mostly rested, watched tv. I remembered so many stupid little details about that day like the top ramen and crackers I ate, snoozing with my dog, etc. Just dumb stuff you'd typically never remember from a random day long ago.

But the weird thing was, I remember during a point in that day when I was resting on the couch, I was sort of in the same state I was in my current age at this stupid meeting. Not asleep, not dozing off, just kind of resting eyes and lost in thought. And I remember, having this odd sense that I was envisioning myself in the future. At the exact moment that little piece of memory from that day struck me, it was as if somewhere in the ether, the two instances of me were floating disembodied and just staring at each other. One studying and the other reflecting. I had the absolute strongest feeling that reverberated through my whole body straight into my bone marrow, that this was what was happening.

It absolutely felt as though my younger self and my current self had momentarily connected through time. I remembered the thoughts that arose from this feeling from back when I was sick on the couch and thinking that I could almost see like future memories of things that were currently going on in my life. The shitty thing is I remember this feeling of dissatisfaction like as if when I was a kid I thought to myself "oh I don't know if I like how my life actually turned out" (lol). I don't know how else to put it into words but the feeling of there being some energy/ethereal forms of my current self and younger self being face to face scanning each other was so visceral and real feeling. I actually got chills, goosebumps, hair stood up and sort of shivered and "came to" back in the meeting.

I looked around and had this really odd sense that I almost time traveled or something. I tried to "re-connect" but the feeling was gone.

Anyone else ever experienced something like this?

Dude what the FUCK is going on?

What asshole scumbag is DDOSing every fuckin service right now? Nothing will load and when it finally does, the entire app just shuts itself off. Or if it doesn't, it'll just be stuck on a frame and wont play, and if you try backing out - app dies.

Thinking about creating a pond as water management.

Location is southwest Pennsylvania. I already checked with my local water auth and township - they don't really care what I do as there's no mains or anything near this area.

Anyway, reference the attached photo. There is a water source coming from the side of a small hill on the back of my property and despite decades of attempts to create run-off irrigation, including buried french drain systems to storm drains located on the streets, the water remains. The recent irrigation ditch we attempted with a 4" corrugated pipe is now not draining to the french drains (I think roots clogged everything finally). This water backs up and stands, and it's mosquito city back there during the summer. Basically, I'm sick of fighting this battle, so I'm thinking of just turning this area into a living pond.

The area I'm at is clay rich at about 3' down, so I was thinking all I'd really have to do is dig out this area and make the bottom surface of the pond mostly clay, and it'd hold the water well. The two trees you see X'd out will have to go. The closest one is mostly dead anyway. The area I outlined for the pond is approximate 1,256'² (40' diameter basically) and it'd butt right up against where the water is coming from, which I believe would continuously fill it. I haven't measured how much water comes out of this source but there is always a constant medium trickle - the little trenches you see guiding the water to the main trench, if you stepped in them, it'd go up to your ankle. idk how else to convey how much water is coming out.

I already went down the path of looking into testing the water to see if it's a natural spring with drinkable water - not doing this. 1st off it's expensive and I already have city water. To put a check valve in (well) they'd have to basically dig the area up anyway and I just don't really want to do a spring well honestly. There's no guarantee they can tap in and stop the surrounding area from being constantly liquified and saturated.

The reason for posting is I guess I'm looking for advice. Is this stupid? I don't live in an HOA neighborhood, but I've heard that ponds are a liability - does this destroy resale value of my house? Cause problems for my neighbors in any way? Since there's a natural water source, do I need a recycle pump/fountain setup? I have zero experience with ponds, so any insight as to things I'm definitely not going to think of will be helpful.

Had AI slop up a pond for me. Think it looks pretty cool.

Retro Game Emulation in 2026+

I was recently looking into the cost to mod an old N64 to get better resolution and decided, F that, I have a Shield Pro! However, it's been some time since I went down the emulation on the shield rabbit hole so I wanted to ask reddit:

  1. What's the latest and greatest when it comes to emulating retro games on the shield?
  2. Is Retroarch still basically the top core repository app?
  3. What's the newest/best frontend?

Most of the posts I see on this topic are more than 6 months old and I don't see much new being mentioned - things like frontends like hyperspin and reset collection. I'm sure there's been newer apps developed in the last SIX years, right?

GoGoTivi

Just curious if anyone has experience with this provider? I came across them through google searches. Their website looked legit, and I didn't see any red flags really, so I bought just 1 month off them to try out (was under twenty bucks).

Added the m3u url to my tivimate standard app (I haven't paid for premium yet) and it automatically added the epg. Shit ton of channels I'll never watch but everything I've tried works pretty good. Good quality. Only noticed some slight buffering a handful of times but not enough to throw the remote across the room about. Not ALL the channels have the guide info filled out, but the ones that do are accurate. I suspect the ones that don't have data populated are non-standard or duplicate channels? Not sure. There's enough info for me, anyway.

Anyway - I'm curious if anyone else ever used this service? I haven't gone down the g2g z2u path yet, just starting out. I would like to purchase a longer subscription but not until I know the service isn't going to shit out on me halfway through - that's why I only grabbed a non-recurring month purchase. If there's better, reliable, services out there, lmk.

iPazzport X9-B Airmouse

Anyone have this airmouse and use it for the shield? It works good, but for the life of me I CANNOT get the IR learning to learn the volume +/- from either the shield remote OR my soundbars original remote. But, I somehow managed to get the X9-B power button to learn the volume + from my soundbars original remote, so I know it's actually learning that IR signal.

Playlist?

I must be retarded .. I got an EPG, added the url to the EPG section but it says not associated with a playlist. Where do I get the playlist url? Can I use any? The place i got the EPG doesn't say anything about playlists, so I assume I'm supposed to get that somewhere else.

Are playlists also not allowed to be asked for / shared?

Apologies for noob questions.

Saving up for a car with a CMA?

Hypothetically, say I want to save up $15k-$25k to purchase a car later. Would it be a good idea to put $200/month into a CMA that auto buys FDLXX and returns the dividends back to the CMA, then once the goal amount is reached, liquidate and use for the purchase?

What the F is with the audio sync issues??

Only the last couple weeks I've noticed the audio sync is wildly swinging on movies. One minute I'll have to adjust the delay to 250ms then 5 minutes later it'll reset itself and go back, so I'll have to pause and remove / fix the delay. It's so fucking aggravating stopping to fix the audio delay several times during a movie.

Is there some setting that keeps automatically switching between audio files thats causing this or what??

Rebalancing

I'm the type who needs things explained like I'm 5. Have an individual brokerage with the following:

VTI 20%, VXUS 20%, QQQM 40%, DRAM 17% (spare me the comments about why I shouldn't or should have these).

Do I just sell everything and then re-buy to switch up the percentages or is there some other way to go about this? I'd like to rebalance to where VTI and VXUS are much heavier.

This is just a very small dollar amount we're talking here, too - less than $500. I'm just messing around with this account and learning things. Sort of using it as savings account to put small amounts in here and there and just let it build.

Cheap, "Fun" trading?

My work has a lot of downtime which affords me the ability to sit and read, listen to podcasts or watch stocks using something like Fidelity's Trader+. I was just thinking, is it possible to open a 2nd brokerage account, fund it with say $50 and buy/sell cheap stocks to just make a small quick profit throughout the day? Not sure if I just described "day trading" or not lol

I figured if I have time to sit and watch prices going up and down, I could use that time to help me learn some ins and outs of the market, timing, trailing buys/sells, etc. I'm just not sure what stocks to even look for to do something like this.

Researching: North East US / Beach trip.

Don't know anything about the north east or its beaches but I want to start researching to plan a vacation with like a new england coastline theme. The only major rule is I don't want to go anywhere that's a popular tourist beach or town at all. I know everyone wants to keep their low key spots secret and I highly appreciate that.

I'm thinking that finding an Airbnb that's close to the coast and a nice small beach that allows getting in the water and just hanging out. We have kids so no nude beaches please! I just dont know where to even start looking to find info on what I'm looking for.

I am also thinking that I might actually rent an rv for this trip, or at least a big comfortable van. As we are driving, this limits the area of coast I can get to from the southwest PA area, though. It'd probably be way too far to drive up to the actual new england style north eastern coastlines. We're just basically looking for some different scenery from PA/midwest scenery.

There's probably a lot I'm not thinking about here but basically I just need to be pointed in the right direction and some suggestions for low key beaches

Thinking about putting dog down.

We are thinking about putting my 15 year old minpin down but just can't be certain it's the right thing to do. He is deaf, blind, teeth are rotted out, has an enlarged heart and is on medication for that plus keeping fluids in his lungs down. Has had a heart sync event about a year ago where he passed out - thought he was gone then.

I'm not sure if he's exhibiting signs of dementia or not but he will kind of just shuffle around, seem confused, repeat paths. He can still locate his water and drink, but has a lot of trouble eating. We have to syringe his food and meds now. I can't tell if he's in pain or not and he doesn't seem to be either miserable or in good spirits - he's just kind of existing at this point.

His vet did quote to do full teeth extraction but warned that he might just die on the table, and that at his age, even doing that might not really improve his quality of life, ability to eat or his spirits. And it's expensive, which doesn't make it any easier.

I feel caught with no right answer because I'm afraid he's just miserable but at the same time worry that we're making a rash decision and he might improve. I gues I'm just looking for guidance if any can be offered.

Alright I'm done with buffering (free services)

A while back I went through the duck guides setup but I didn't pick a paid service because I just wanted to test everything and see how to do the add-ons. But god damn the free torrent streams are more annoying when it comes to them either never loading, buffering incessantly or finally working but having other issues like shitty audio or subtitles/watermarks taking up half the screen. Guess it's time to cough up some dough.

I don't keep up with the news here though so I need some guidance. A quick glance and I see posts talking about how RD is compromised, so am I left with TorBox or are there other options with the same setup steps in the duck guide?

If it helps my aim is to be able to look up any random movie, from any era, pick a f'n option and it load and play through with minimal issues. And if I'm paying, there basically better never be buffering. This is on a shield pro, if it matters.

Another Trailing Stop Question (from a noob)

I think I read too many conflicting things and confused myself. Hopefully someone can educate me here. I get the overall concept of trailing stop buys/sells, but...

For a breakout position to make a quick buck on a fast moving stock, a trailing stop buy seems wrong to me. If I'm understanding this correctly, all it does is ensure that I BUY shares at the highest? So would it be a better idea to just market buy at the current price and then setup a trailing stop SELL?

What am I not understanding here?
