The design was created and constructed by the Spanish civil engineering firm Estudios Arenas & Asociados led by Miguel Sacristán Montesinos, with the collaboration of the local-based architecture firm AM2 arquitectos led by Alexandre Mouriño and the Portuguese architecture studio NOARQ led by José Carlos Nunes de Oliveira. And it was built by the Spanish companies Ferrovial S.E and Oreco Balgón.
The design was selected in 2021 through a contest by the city of Vigo as part of a bigger project to make walking easier in the town due to the high gradient the city has, named “Vigo Vertical Urban Connectivity”, it was built between August 2022 and opened to the public in February 2022 with an initial cost of 7.2 million euros that finally overbudgeted to 15.8 million euros
It connects the Vialia shopping center and Vigo Urzaiz high speed rail station with Rúa Serafín Avendaño, saving about 2km or 1.2 miles of walk distance as well as being used by a viewpoint to the Vigo Estuary and the old town.
Inside are housed two high-speed elevators installed by the swiss company Schindler, each with a cabin of 2.73 square meters and a capacity for 17 people, which overcome the 50-meter drop in approximately 30 seconds. The elevators feature four integrated wind turbines, which provide them with a degree of energy self-sufficiency, reducing electricity consumption and contributing to the sustainability of the infrastructure. At the top, a circular metal walkway spanning 86 meters in diameter and about 190 meters in length. The complex is clad with curved glass and solid surface panels, materials selected for their resistance, contemporary aesthetics, and easy maintenance.
Among its main distinctions are the first prize at the Loop Design Awards 2021 in the unbuilt architecture category delivered in Lisbon, in 2024 the Porcelanosa Award for the most innovative project in Madrid, the Architecture Master Prize (AMP 2024) in Los Angeles, an award granted by Archilovers Magazine in Italy, and once again the Loop Design Awards 2024 in Lisbon. In 2025, it received the Acueducto de Segovia Award for its contribution to mobility, sustainability, and urban regeneration, and two other international awards, the Award in the Transportation category of the 4 Future Awards in Canada, and the distinction of the Spanish Association of Structural Engineering (ACHE) in the walkway category.
Yesterday one of my cars (my shitbox) started to smell pretty badly in the outside, I came from a roadtrip so my guess was that I killed a lot of bugs and that was the smell, so I decided I would go the car wash the next day to clear up the smell.
Next day car still smells, I wash it, smell goes away for a few minutes but the next hour it was smelling again, still just in the exterior of the car, I don’t smell anything in the engine bay but it reeks if you get your nose close to the wheels, specially the left front one.
My guess is that a rat or a kitten (since there is a colony near my house) got in the underside of the car and I killed it after driving while it was doing whatever in there, it’s almost like a dog piss smell but not quite, you can definitely notice the smell when you get up close to the car (around 2-3m/7-10ft away, but on the inside I don’t smell anything)
My idea since it doesn’t really bother me and the car doesn’t sleep in my garage anyways is to just let whatever animal ended up on my shitbox rot in there and eventually in 1-3 weeks it will decompose and the smell will go away on its own, specially since I can’t just take the whole car apart since I’m taking it on a 4 day roadtrip on Tuesday. Is this a good idea?
