For those driving Diesel?

I've owned petrol cars, never a diesel. Always wanted a Hilux and got my opportunity recently to pick up a 2022 Hilux SR Hi-Rider Manual 4x2 for a great price at 32k with 80k kms and full logbook history. It's a diesel.

Thought, why not. It's been a dream car of mine for a while. Until I filled up from half a tank for $108 for 38L.

I'll be using it for small renos around the house, carrying the dogs on the back and some camping trips every two months or so.

I love it so far but it sucks that I had to have gotten a dream car of mine at a time when diesel is expensive.. I want to keep this car forever!

For those that have diesel utes or cars, are you still thinking if keeping it or selling anytime soon?

We have another 2013 Toyota Corolla for when we need a small car in the city or tight carparks, but it'l get replaced with an EV or Hybrid soon.

Edit: For the past two weeks of owning my Hilux I've gotten 8.5L/100km over 600km driving. Our Corolla does 7.1L/100km, so it's not far off! I love driving it and I think from what everyone is saying, you all love driving your rigs and cars too. That's what matters in the end :)

New to camping - Vehicle advice?

Hey all, looking into getting into camping in Aus/Queensland and wondering if a 4x4 is really necessary? Can you still get away with 4x2 for some good camping spots chill with open fire for overnight weekend stays?

What are your biggest issues with Notes apps?

I've used Text Files, Evernote, Notion, Obsidian and Apple Notes. But never really stuck with one.

Why do you end up moving and what are you still looking for?

I'm a musician and used Evernote to write and add in recordings, but the recording file was inconsistent with different devices and couldn't listen to them per device.

Notion was good but became too complicated in the end.

Obsidian was also good but spend too much time setting it up just to get it to take simple notes, and the iPhone app wasn't the best.

Apple Notes ended up being the default just because if the sync, and kept bigger notes in Obsidian.

What are you still looking for and what are your main reasons for taking notes?

LOAME: All-in-one Productivity App

Hey all — I'm the solo founder behind LOAME, a lightweight productivity app that combines notes, tasks, lists, and a spending tracker in one place. No juggling five different apps for quick capture.

I just made full web app access free — it was previously $1.99/month, now $0. No trial gimmick, no "free for 7 days then charged." Just free.

What you get:

  • Unlimited notes, tasks, lists, and ideas
  • A simple spending tracker
  • Google sign-in, zero setup
  • Sharing lists with others (free, no collaborator limits)

A couple of honest caveats:

  • It's a web app (PWA) right now — native iOS/Android apps aren't built yet, they're on the roadmap. You can still add it to your home screen and it works like an app, just not on the App Store/Play Store yet.
  • I'm a solo dev, so it's a small, focused tool rather than a huge feature-packed suite — that's kind of the point (zero-setup, quick capture).

Would love feedback if you try it out. loame.app

4 changes that have helped plan my life more sustainably

I found the most helpful thing with organising my life over creativity, family, chores, learning and finances has been having one place to go to for all my life lists.

I tried Obsidian, Notion, Evernote, Streaks, Reminders, Spreadsheets. They were great, but I just always found that I'd be spending too much time setting everything up, and having to keep tweaking it as life changes. I just needed something that would capture all my thoughts and ideas in a simple way.

Things that have helped me:

  1. Get everything out of your mind somewhere, either in a note, list, dated task or calendar event

This frees up your mind to focus on what you're doing because you will forget, but you will know where to look instead.

  1. Separation of topics/purpose

Having separate places for specific things like projects, house buying lists, christmas gift ideas, song ideas/titles and exercise tracking instead of it all being clumped in Apple Notes.

  1. Recurring tasks

Only using recurring tasks specifically for things that are genuinely recurring and not for habit tracking. Things like dusting the house every month, mowing every 3 weeks, when to give the dogs medicine. Habit tracking in recurring tasks becomes tiring and you feel bad if you miss them, it starts to stack up too. Keep a journal or list of habits you want to keep and review it frequently instead.

  1. Note labelling/categorisation

Note taking is better seen as an exercise to get your thoughts out of your mind and strengthen neural pathways for information. Refer back to creative notes like stories, lyrics or ideas, make them easier to find with labels.

We've made some recent updates to LOAME if anyone would be interested to try :) www.loame.app - Would love to hear any feedback at all :)

LOAME - Every list type in one app.

I've been using the productivity/habit tracking apps for years, but I ended up sticking with recurring reminders, notes and spreadsheets. I made an app that captures all of them in one place instead of having to manage different apps. Share lists. Minimal UI. No completion pressure. And all of your data is encrypted and only readable by you, no personal data is stored.

What defines productivity and what are you tracking with your productivity app?

Curious to see what people are actually tracking, are you a student? Parent? Business owner? Or just generally trying to move forward in life towards a goal? Or is life just too much to keep in your head that you need something to note it all down?

For myself, I use reminders, notes and sheets to track personal chores like vacuuming, giving my dogs medicine, workouts, finance tracking and expenses and sometimes things like planning a travel trip. I find putting it down and just opening something to tell me what to do today helps me just focus on my life rather than having to remember everything.

What about you?

How long until comfortable on motorway?

Hey guys, got my open licence around 3 months ago. Started on a 200cc so didn't really go on motorways much during my learners. Got a 650cc last month and been going on once or twice a week to get used to it, but it can still feel scary.

When do you get used to being on the motorway? Feels like the wind is so heavy and every movement feel twitchy. I relax my arms and shoulders, no tension and it helps a lot, but turning my head still feels crazy haha.

I ride a 1985 BMW R65, naked bike, and it can comfortably keep up but my skill isn't there yet. Riding 80km speed roads more to build confidence but getting tired of the longer routes avoiding motorways. Also doesn't help when it's been freezing lately (QLDer 😂).

Any tips would be much appreciated!

Do you get used to it?

So how are you distributing apps these days?

Seems like reddit commenting etc is slow, and a lot of subreddits don't allow links.

Just built my first app, no marketing and just reddit facebook groups. Giving away free lifetime access since database stored and costs are free at the moment. Just need a solid user base to share WOM.

Also tried reaching out to some influencers. I'm in the auto industry.

Any tips?

What do you use to track maintenance on your bike?

Been restoring a 1984 Kawasaki Z200 and a 1985 BMW R65. Spreadsheets worked fine but I wanted something better, so as a dev I just built it. No subscriptions, no nonsense. Curious what everyone else uses though?
