TV Tonight's 140-show shortlist of the best 70 Australian TV shows of all time is an embarrassing selection and is a damning indictment of the failing free-to-air model

So I found out about this poll from TV Tonight that they're going to reveal at the Logie's. David Knox calls himself a TV critic and yet has omitted so many of the most culturally significant and/or critically acclaimed Australian shows that I can't help but wonder if he's even seen half the shows he's shortlisted.

No Hey Hey, no A*mazing, no Late Show, no Bert Newton Show, no sketch comedy (no Full Frontal, Fast Forward, no Comedy Inc, no SkitHouse), no Summer Heights High, no Chaser’s War (disgraceful omission), no Spicks and Specks (WHAT!?), no Utopia. I could go on and on, but you get the idea. What is the point of running a democratic poll if you censor some of the most popular shows of all time? What a farce.

I say as a protest vote we all vote Russell Coight's All Aussie Adventures. In any case, it's a much better show than most of the dreck on this "shortlist". Plus, it winning would suit the vibe of the show as the pisstake this "poll" is. The idea of Glenn Robbins going up in character to take the prize would be the icing on the piss-take cake.

Share on social media and let's get this ball rolling.

This is democracy manifest, damn it!

Does anyone else think the radio edit version of "Talk" is superior to the album version?

Link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T7fjnBxJ75w

I was on another subreddit where someone was saying how the album version of a song (Jamiroquai's "Space Cowboy") was superior to a different mix. It got me thinking about cases where the inverse was true, and it reminded me of this radio edit. It's the only example that immediately springs to mind for me. What about you guys? Maybe it depends on your mood or whether the album track is listened in the context of the album itself?

Allusions to the Nas song

Probably not really a spoiler unless you've somehow never seen 8 Mile, but I was recently relistening to Illmatic by Nas and heard the bar "I switched my motto / instead of sayin' fuck tomorrow / That buck that bought a bottle / could've struck the lotto."

Then in B. Rabbit vs. Lotto, Em raps: "My motto: 'Fuck Lotto!'
I'll get the seven digits from your mother for a dollar tomorrow!"

Further adding to this: Nas says "fuck tomorrow", while Em says "fuck Lotto".

Maybe some of you had already made the connection in your heads, but the only post online I could dig up about it was some random Japanese site of all things.

I know it's a cliche at this point, but there's so much packed into his lines from this movie that every now and then I'll here a reference and connect the dots. So, yeah, did anyone else pick up on this? Feels too much to be just a coincidence considering Em ranks Nas as of one of his all-timers.

MacBook Pro charging problem!

I have the frustrating problem where my MacBook Pro will charge and then just to stop charging. By that I means it gets to fully charge and then starts bleeding off charge well below the normal amount (it will go to flat). This is infuriating. The only way I can seem to be able to force the charge is to take the end of the cable that connects to the charging brick out and back in again, but this is obviously annoying and very impractical. Is there a sensible way to fix this?

Chinese version of "Wake Me Up"?

So the school across the road often pipes music through instead of bells, which I actually appreciate and am often interested by their eclectic song choices. Today I heard Avicii's "Wake Me Up". It sounded like a slowed-down version of the song but with traditional Chinese instrumentation. I scoured YouTube but couldn't find it. Does anyone have any idea what it might be? Tried Shazam but was too far away from audio source. This isn't Cpop in the traditional sense, as it's very traditional, but I'm trying here on a whim.

Frustrating issue with the alarm I've only seen arise recently...

Recently I have an issue with my iPhone and Apple watch whereby saying, for example, "Set a one-hour freezer alarm" to Siri then prompts me to say "for what time?" instead of just setting it. It then puts in the text "A one hour freezer alarm". Idiotic. I'm sure this used to not be the case, and it's difficult to train myself out of. Am I crazy or did they somehow find another way to make Siri worse? It seems to work fine if I say "timer" instead of alarm, but this is such a ridiculous problem.

An important update about Wikipedia stats updates for individual player pages!

In previous years, you may have noticed that some player pages on Wikipedia would have their stats be weeks, months, or sometimes even years out of date in some extreme cases. A big problem with this is that it made using Wikipedia to check a specific player's stats unreliable, and manually editing pages was tedious (especially given there are about 800 listed AFL players active at any time).

You may have noticed this year, however, that individual player pages have been updated with near-clockwork frequency this year. This is the culmination of a concerted effort from a small group of dedicated editors, which I've been trying to organise for the last couple of years. Together, we've created a bot that will automatically synchronise stats each week, which means all player pages will have their respective stats updated a day or so after the round has completed (hopefully within mere hours of the AFL Tables update).

I'm putting this post here for posterity and so that any editors who would like to test it for themselves can do so. (Note: I have decided to keep this a semi-closed beta for now; if anyone is interested in testing it, please DM me.) As an added bonus, there are advanced stats at the bottom of each player page now, whereas before it was sporadic and rarely updated due to how finicky it was to do manually. I also have an in-built function for filling out advanced stats for previous years (to apply these advanced stats to players who are retired and don't have them), although I plan to work through this myself in due course so I can iron out any problems that may arise.

Cheers!
