I have a new pair of Ultras (Gen 2) arriving later in the week, and I was wondering what the best song (and/or album) to listen to would be in terms of testing its soundstage, bass, and general vibe. Any recommendations?

I'm open to all kinds of genres. I'll be testing both Bluetooth and wired. I'm upgrading from QC-45, so I'm just wanting to put it through its paces. I may even build a playlist based on your suggestions. I'd like to run the gamut from jazz to classical to rock, dubstep, d+b, house, whatever! I'm upgrading from the QC-45 (which I literally loved to death to the point where the hinge part is broken) to the QuietComfort Ultra Headphones (2nd Gen). If anyone has some recommendations for EQ or cinema mode, etc., please let me know! They'll be arriving this Friday, so it'd be nice to have something to put them through its paces!

Cheers!

I have a new pair of premium headphones arriving later in the week, and I was wondering what the best song (and/or album) to listen to would be in terms of testing its soundstage. Any recommendations?

I've got In Rainbows on vinyl, but obviously I can also listen their entire discography on lossless. I'm also open to live sets and was considering their basement session.

What's your favourite "no context" line you think of (or say) from the show. This one is probably mine... (and I'm guessing by this title you can tell why!)

Jamiroquai's "Virtual Insanity" feels to me like one of the first music videos to use the liminal space concept.

The VI music video just turned 30 recently as you all know. I know just about everyone and their mother has seen it, but what do you guys think about its liminal space quality? Certifiably liminal? Certainly the video checks off the sense of unease. I've gone back through the r/LiminalSpace archives and seen a couple posts referencing it, so clearly I'm not alone on the thought.

For those of you who don't know, here's an article on the subject.

does anyone know the studio version of space cowboy with the cheebah cheebah voice samples in the chorus?

Apparently there's a Japanese version of the album where it's different? Does anyone know? I feel like I'm taking crazy pills. I know there are several versions of it, so maybe it's one. I swear I recall seeing it on the music video for "Space Cowboy". I don't have the DVD version of it anymore, so can someone please check?

Edit: Found! It was indeed the Stoned Again mix, but the "Cheebah chebah" line only starts coming in on the second chorus/breakdown. cheers

In late 2024, I posed a problem pertaining to the Knight's Problem, but one question remains...

On the Cracking the Cryptic Discord, I posed the following challenge:

"I want to make a knight's tour combined with an 8x8 Latin square. If you assign 1 for the starting square, assign 2 for the second, etc. until resetting to 1 after 8, can you make a knight's tour that also is a Latin square based on this rule set? I know others have tried with 8 separate circuits, but to my knowledge nobody has documented this as I have described. Is this even possible? You wouldn't need to calculate rotations and reflections (I'm pretty sure, at least), and testing has shown that rotation of the starting square in an open or closed tour do not matter. Perhaps you could design an algorithm and/or program that cycles through 8 times for each valid closed tour? Or maybe there's a human-viable algorithm or heuristic you could apply? In any case, I think this is a fascinating problem and am curious to hear your thoughts."

A few months later, myself and someone nicknamed Paws found a solution. Paws made several breakthroughs, including determining the Latin square configuration. I tried a computer program prior to the discovery, but it projected that it would take something like 40 years to solve due to having about 1.4 octillion possibilities (using a consumer-grade computer).

For those of you want to try it, go ahead. There's two solutions we've found (colors can stand in for numbers, like in the first one; that is just an aesthetic choice).

My open question, though, is this:

Do any closed tours exist on a Latin square?

Corollary: Is there an algorithm for finding tours and latin squares that match? We just used intuition, not an algorithm. I'm curious how rare such a combination may be.

BY THE WAY, sorry if the tag isn't the right one. If not, let me know what a better one would be. I put a blank chessboard so you guys can play around with it in paint of something. Also, the website may not load for some people unless you manually click to proceed, but the site is 100% safe.

Cheers!

WHERE IS THE NEW POST ASKING ABOUT WHEN THE NEW ALBUM WILL RELEASE?

GUYS, SERIOUSLY, IT'S BEEN OVER 21 HOURS SINCE SOMEONE ASKED WHEN THE NEW ALBUM WILL BE. HONESTLY, IF SOMEONE DOESN'T ASK AGAIN IN THE NEXT 3 HOURS, IT WILL BE AN ENTIRE 24-HOUR DAY WHERE NOT A SINGLE PERSON HAS POSTED TO REDDIT DEMANDING TO KNOW WHEN THE NEW ALBUM WILL COME OUT.

Judith Durham, Russell Hitchcock ft. Mandawuy Yunupingu – I Am Australian (Music Video)

Yesterday marked four years since the passing of the Seekers' Judith Durham. How this video only has 10,000 views is a crying shame. At this time, where the ruling class seeks to divide and conquer to suit their own needs, I want them to know that we will never be divided. I am, you are, we are Australian!

i'm making a highlights clip for an indie game and was wondering if you guys had any suggestions...

i'm looking for something upbeat with a rock or EDM vibe with a solid drum track (though genre is flexible), preferably unearthed (though doesn't have to be). i don't mind if anyone wants to suggest their own tracks or just something they like. to be clear: i'm using it for the soundtrack for a custom level pack in a platforming game. i don't personally stand to gain anything financially, although i expect it will get a few thousand views when it's complete. thought i'd reach out here if anybody had any ideas. cheers.

Lou Donaldson - 'Whiskey Drinkin' Woman'

I came to Lou Donaldson cos of his jazz shops, but his blues chops are just as good (plus his stage banter is legendary). Here he is when he was 88 years old laying it down.

There are 23 separate playlists on Jamiroquai's official YouTube channel, yet none of them are playlists for their videos in chronological order. Even their "official videos" playlist only has 8 random videos on it.

Babe, new Wikipedia pic just dropped...

https://preview.redd.it/c0kt1cso1qfh1.png?width=3430&format=png&auto=webp&s=cf4657bc958f26a21407ce928ce0c22388de36b3

Not sure why he hasn't had a pic the last few months (I assume copyright or some bs). Pretty based pic they've got up, though. Hopefully it stays, since obviously this photo was famous before all images got taken down altogether. Hopefully a case was made for it staying up. I thought social media without copyright was okay for Wikipedia, but maybe not. Any insights appreciated. This is new (last day or so), so maybe it's technically not allowed.

Question is: if it's not "strictly speaking" allowed, my understanding is that Luigi could specifically give explicit consent to release it under creative commons. This would be unbelievably based and, per my understanding, would be the only known photo that could be used (unless there is a pap who decides to relinquish copyright, which is highly unlikely).

Thoughts?
