I (22f) recently started 10mg vyvanse for my ADHD. I have a condition called gastroparesis, which is paralysis of the stomach. Because of this, food sits in my stomach for several days, leading to fullness and severe pain when eating. It also causes anorexia (NOT anorexia nervosa), a complete loss of appetite, and for me, a fear of food. As you can infer, I do not feel hungry very often.

At least, until I started vyvanse. I have been hungry SO MUCH. Every hour, my stomach growls. I have never actually experienced hunger, except for up till 8. I stopped experiencing hunger and I believe that is when I developed gastroparesis.

I am very uncomfortable experiencing hunger and, at times, even scared. However, this hunger is an extremely GOOD thing for me. I am forced to go eat. I was, in 2021, formerly 78 lbs, and have struggled to reach and stay in the triple digits. I reached 101 lbs two weeks ago, which was very big for me. If I keep getting hungry, I expect I may be able to reach even 105, which would be the highest I’ve been since after I was thirteen (I weighed 115 when I was 13 but lost ten pounds once I turned fourteen).

This is very good, but I am very confused. I’ve been repeatedly told that vyvanse REDUCES appetite. Am I an outlier? Will this go away?

I really pray it remains a side effect, even if the feeling of hunger scares me.

How on God’s green Earth are we meant to do anything?

Has anyone else experienced this? After I take my dose (10 mg, I just started 2 days ago), I get very sleepy and have to take a nap. I just now took one for an hour and thirty minutes. I wake up feeling wide awake every time after I take my nap?? I’ve never been refreshed after taking a nap before
