New at relearning progress

I wrote here a while back. I've been relearning how to do this because it's been a long time. At first I started on zetrablades but they were making my calves burn. Someone in the comments recommended swapping them for a hardboot style which I did. I got K2 Surge 80s now my calves don't burn when I try them out.

But now I notice my toes scrunch up when I'm on the pavement making my arches hurt. Is this a thing that beginners do that I just will eventually relax out of? Appreciate any more pointers and no falls today!

I wish I had friends I could do things with

I have a bunch of friends I talk to but they are magically not available for outdoorsy things. They will do these things with others. I pretty much have to fake an interest in role play games to be able to hang out. I feel like I have to go scorched earth on talking with these friends to find new ones. No one else has to do this

No one wants to go hiking with me

Ive learned I love getting outside and exploring. I love trying to do active things. People are always so worried when I tell them I hike alone. Well no one wants to go with me. They are always joking about how people my age have no business doing those active things. Hard to find groups with my schedule. If I just stayed fat, kept drinking, and was content gaming during my rare free time, I'd have no trouble finding friends. My one good friend who said they'd go hiking with me has flaked on me the entire year.

I do good things but keep feeling like there's something very wrong with me

I don't know how to fix it. I am taking more steps outside my comfort zone. Progress has been made and even my therapist agrees. I can't help but think I am just wrong as a person. I have the wrong childish interests. I can't seem to achieve normal adult things easy for everyone else.

How do you stop caring what people think?

I've been trying to recover and stuff in and out of therapy for the past few years. I've made a lot of progress since then. A big part of this has been giving myself permission as a 30 something to do activities I wasn't allowed to do as a child.

These can look cringey a bit but they definitely make me feel some joy. Lately it's been a lot of learning outdoorsy things and doing some real physical challenges. My latest challenges have been relearning to rollerblade and doing various types of rolls. I've been again doing this. And with proper preparation, I've been getting better a little at a time.

It feels good to know that I am capable and learning. I feel myself getting stronger. But lots of time when I bring these things up people make jokes about how 30 somethings have no business doing very physical things anymore. This is especially popular to say on the millennial subreddit. I know I'm not a kid anymore but I'm still alive and moving. But for someone who didn't take care of themselves in their 20s, I feel like I have more energy again.

I also hear my old team lead at work in my head saying that all this stuff is a waste of time. I've been extremely secretive about a lot of these activities out of fear that people will tell me I shouldn't be doing risky things at my age or wasting my money. I do work and pay my bills btw. I manage to feel extreme shame about doing weird things to feel joy and heal.

When I tell my therapist this he says to stop caring what people think. But how do I do this? I guess I did step 1 on doing these activities in private in the first place but how do I continue?

Tired of being told I'm too old for things

I'm in my 30s. It's still possible for me to be active and have experiences I missed out on in childhood. Wasted my 20s being too afraid to do these things. I may be older but feel younger than my age. It gets to me when I want to try something active when people need to put me down saying I'll end up breaking my bones. I know this is probably first world problems but it is really getting to me.

RB80s?

I recently tried to get back into rollerblading in my 30s. I bought Zetrablades because they looked legit. But after a ride with them, my calves were in pain trying to stay balanced. I did some more research and now I'm finding that hard boot blades might be a better option. I remember as a kid when I was learning to ice skate, I struggled badly with figure skates but with a hard ice hockey skate, I had no problems going around the rink.

I will return the zetrablades soon. But what is a good hard boot brand thats more affordable but good for beginners. I'd like one with a heel brake. I saw that RB80s look good. Are these a good type for what I'm looking for? Any other recommendations?

"You can only do that because you don't have kids..."

I hate this saying so much. I'd love to be able to have kids. Currently trying a few things but no idea if it'll happen. In the meantime, am I supposed to just not do anything? I stopped drinking a few years ago and started getting fit.

When I started therapy or really during the pandemic, I finally gave myself permission to do activities I missed out on in childhood. Things I wanted to learn. I've had many first time experiences as a 30 something and it feels great. It makes me feel younger in a way. Tonight I did a forward roll for the first time in many many years.

And these aren't crazy big travel things with super expensive gear. It's not like I'm made of money. They're affordable and I find little windows of opportunity in my crazy work schedule.

It does get lonely. I can't seem to find other 30 somethings that want to do new curious active things. And parents are quick to shoot it down with that saying. But I've seen good parents do curious active things for themselves too.

This infertility thing really sucks and there are times when it makes me feel subhuman. It also sucks feeling like I have to hide all the things that have brought me actual bits of joy in these recent years.

Does anyone else relate?

Still yelled at like a small child

I really want to get along with my mom. I will have what looks like a normal conversation in person or on the phone and later I will be called up and lectured for doing basic human things wrong. I'm 38 and I've been moved out since I was 22. I've managed to pay my bills since and been married for most of that time. I know I'm not where I want to be in life but i get treated like I'm a small child mentally.

Ive been accused of dragging out covid and k*lling their neighbor because my husband and I needed to work and go grocery shopping. We live on opposite sides of the country. When I visited my mom for the first time in years she spent most of the time yelling at me making an animal skull sculpt. Saying I needed to put it away or I would get fired. I work in a creative field and that type of stuff is impressive.

One time I made the mistake of emailing a cute picture of my cat and I was emailed all weekend long about how I was abusive for having a bell on his collar.

And the other day, I was emailed after a normal phone call. I was yelled at for putting up with bad cat behaviors (begging for cat food by meowing loudly) and needing to train him better. I hide any type of illness as that's been treated like a moral failure since I became an adult.

I try and grey rock but that gets hard and lonely. My body goes into extreme freeze response around my parents these days. Does anyone else's parent treat them like a small child?

Sore calves

I made a post the other day about getting back into rollerblading. I'm a millennial that hasn't done this in many years. I went to the park this morning and spent like 15-20 min skating down a paved walking path. Just a few mild scrapes but mostly was getting around. I noticed right away my calves were burning. I'd roll onto the grass to give them a rest every so often. When I got back to the car, my calves were burning and I was covered in sweat.

Is this normal for a beginner. What can I do to help this? I was trying to bend my legs and lean forward.

Getting back into this

These were sitting on my wishlist and I took the plunge last week. I have protective equipment and did a quick test in my hallway. Definitely will take some getting back used to but have a plan. I posted this up in the millennial subreddit and didn't get much support

People acting like 30 is too old to do anything and try anything new

Just this. In my 30s, I quit drinking and started moving around more. I gave myself permission to do things I wished I could've done when I was younger and had many first time experiences. Honestly feel younger than I was in my 20s. I'm tired of people telling me that drinking, gambling, and gaming are the only ways to have fun in your 30s. I'm tired of people telling me I can't be playful at this age.

I did something crazy last week

I decided to order some rollerblades. I used to do this a bunch but it's been a long time. I'm a bit overweight now but I've still kept strong and in good shape. I got all new safety gear and some locations picked out to practice.

I found the bears I always wanted in a set on eBay for a steal

I wasn't really a big collector of beanie babies back in the day although I had a few. There were always a few classic bears I wanted but never had.

My Millennial Collections

Late 30s. I was big into the Animorphs series as a kid and built the whole set. I hung onto that series thankfully. Some of those later books are really expensive to get nowadays. But it has me thinking of the other millennial series I missed out on that wished I could read

This has been very slow collecting but off and on with thrifting, I have been adding books to these collections. Goosebumps (I wasn't allowed to read these as a kid), Babysitters Club, Sweet Valley High, American Girl (those six book series about the original historical dolls), Arthur, Franklin, Clifford, Berenstain Bears, and Dear America. I felt weird nostalgia about the reading books I used in elementary school in the 90s. I figured out all the names of these and got a few of these online for next to nothing.

I still have a few beanie babies and want to get a lava lamp for my space.

Do any of you guys have any millennial-themed collections?

The end of this week was better than last but still feel like I'm trash failing at life

The work project is moving along and the customer wasn't mad like I thought they'd be. I made an effort to be social with the new group again today. I wish I was able to be more real with people. I wish I was farther along in life. I feel like I'm the shame of the family. I wish this damn heat wave cooled down a bit more in the evening so I could run off some of this stress again!

Dinner: trying to finish up my nice summery brats and mini freezer corns. Sampling dark cherry Kool aid. Summer and nostalgia made me crave the stuff for now.

I'm a failure

I love feeling the need to text the crisis line at work. Even my customer has told me my boss is abusive. Looking forward to probably getting yelled at by her boss tomorrow. I can't even run and kick the soccer ball around to relieve the stress because it's been like 100+ degrees all day the last few days.

Wish I wasn't so stuck in life

A bunch of things look good on paper but I can't seem to move on things. I fall farther and farther behind my peers. You know it's bad when your customer tells you your boss is taking advantage of you. Wish I wasn't in such a specialized profession. I don't know why I didn't know go into STEM from the start. My peers wouldn't be stuck like this.

I did make progress going to an actual social event last weekend. There were some pretty lame things that happened but more good things. I was writing my conflicted thoughts about that in some posts here last week.

Dinner featuring some shit that Walmart was promoting in the front of the store.

I feel like I'm intrinsically inferior to people who have children

Im trying to see if I can get this fixed but I can't help this feeling. I don't want to tell people how old I am. I take on the extra stuff at work. I get very secretive about things I like to do for fun. I don't need more people to come after me saying I can only rest or do those things because I don't have kids. I stopped reaching out to my family both sides because I feel like I've brought shame on the family and haven't really grown up.

I am in therapy and he's been great but how can he possibly understand this?
