Alternatives to Brill that allow commercial use?

I am currently working on creating a linguistics website called The Online Encyclopedia of Linguistics and Related Fields. Because of its subject matter, the font in question will have to support the International Phonetic Alphabet, as well as some other uncommon characters. I initially wanted to use Brill, but it has a noncommercial-only license. I was also thinking of using Gentium, but its calligraphic vibe doesn’t really fit well with the semi-scholarly purpose of the site. I would absolutely love to use STIX Two Text, but a few IPA symbols (such as the labiodental flap and the symbols for upstep and downstep) are not supported, and the Greek letters βχθ clash visually with the rest of the font.

So put simply, which alternatives to Brill allow commercial use, and don’t have a calligraphic vibe? Would it be worth spending the money to get a custom font that has full IPA support?

Is it possible to have a llama as a pet?

Just wondering, because I want a somewhat unconventional pet. I found this YouTube video of someone who has a llama as a pet. But I’ve also seen claims that they need more land and fencing than conventional pets. So is it possible to have a llama as a pet?

Why are more and more fonts being split for every script?

Back in the 2000s and 2010s, there were many Unicode font projects that aimed to cover 5+ different scripts in the same font. These include DejaVu Sans, FreeSerif, FreeSans, and several others. However, I’ve been seeing more and more fonts being split for every script. For instance, a single font is sometimes split into $FONT, $FONT Cyrillic, $FONT Armenian, and so on. I understand splitting out the very largest scripts (such as CJK), but splitting out each and every script seems a bit excessive.

Before desktop publishing was a thing, how did linguists type IPA symbols?

Nowadays you can just type International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA) symbols into your word processor.

But this raises the question: How did linguists type IPA symbols before desktop publishing was a thing?

The new MyFonts glyph displays no longer show OpenType variants

Just in case anyone from Monotype is here:
The UI update to MyFonts’ glyph list chart makes it 10x worse. I’m talking about the table where it used to show all the glyphs. Now it only supports base characters, and not small caps, oldstyle digits, or alternates. Modern fonts go far beyond pure Unicode characters, so not showing alternates is detrimental because you don’t have a sense of what you’re paying for. I’ve been having this problem for over a day now.
The worst thing is, it still says “all [] glyphs contained in the font, including OpenType variants that may only be accessible via OpenType-aware applications.”

Also the labels “Ascent, Cap height, x-height, Baseline, Descent” overcrowd the new UI whenever previewing. Not to mention, the “ascent“ and “descent” data in many digital fonts is made rather high to give extra space for combining diacritics, and doesn’t correspond to the typographic ascender and descender height.

Is it illegal to manually re-create someone else’s font?

To the best of my knowledge, US copyright law only protects the font software, and not overall letter shapes. But as many fonts are designed in other countries, this still raises the question. Is it illegal to manually re-create someone else’s font?

What exactly makes Flock cameras differ from other forms of video surveillance?

Since video surveillance cameras have existed for decades, what exactly makes Flock get so much controversy?

Hypothetically, what would happen if one painted over the solar panel of a Flock camera?

Would the Flock camera stop functioning? And would that person face criminal charges?

Are there any third-party iOS apps that allow you to record super-slow-motion video?

I’ve seen several YouTube videos where they record things in super-slow-motion. One day I want to make such a video myself. I do know that the Sony RX100 V allows you to record up to 960 fps. But I find it hard to justify spending ~$600 for something I will rarely use. So I have to ask, are there any third-party iOS apps that allow you to record super-slow-motion video?
