Do I need a Samsung account to use the S26 Ultra?

I'm considering buying a S26 Ultra. I already have a Google account. I'd imagine I'll definitely need that to use Google Play. Do I need a Samsung account as well? If not, what am I missing out on? Any app or feature that needs it?

Is there a difference between the IP that I get from my ISP and my mobile carrier?

Other than one being a residential ISP and the other being a mobile carrier, is there a difference between the two IP addresses that I get?

Need help getting the ISP's two access points to work

I'm trying to help my friend get this setup working, but I can't figure out why it's unstable. My friend has two access points and a gateway (NAH) provided by the ISP, Telus. He also has a GL.iNet Beryl AX.

The NAH is connected to the internet, and the Beryl AX is connected to the NAH's LAN1, which is bridged. The NAH's other ports are not bridged. Access point 1 is connected to the Beryl AX's LAN port, and access point 2 is connected to the NAH's LAN2. So there are two wireless networks that should be operating independently of each other. Initially, it was working properly, but hours later, access point 2's main SSID just disappeared, while its guest SSID is all that remains.

The Beryl AX is still working and has its own IP. I can no longer access the NAH's admin page from access point 2. The internet does work from access point 2, but as I said, only its guest SSID remains.I removed access point 2 from the NAH and connected that to the Beryl AX, and this time I can access its own admin page. I was surprised to see that Access Point 2's SSID somehow changed to Access Point 1, even though both networks should be independent. I'm not sure how that happened.

I'm wondering if the options in the Easy Mesh page may be responsible for the issue and whether it has to be changed. These are all enabled at the moment.

Role: Auto Legacy Steering: Enabled

Disabling legacy steering means that only devices supporting IEEE 802.11k and 802.11v are steered by your TELUS Boost Wi-Fi system to the best connection.

Band Steering: Enabled

Disabling band steering means that your devices will not be steered by your TELUS Boost Wi-Fi system to the best band (2.4GHz or 5GHz).

AP Steering: Enabled

Disabling AP steering means that your devices will not be steered by your TELUS Boost Wi-Fi system to the best AP.

I know this is a clumsy setup as each device in the topology has its own admin interface, but we're determined to try to get this to work before exploring buying something else. Any idea what's going on?

Best way to straighten my cables?

Just got a pair of coax and Ethernet cables and they're kinked up. What's the best way to straighten them up without damaging them? The coax cable is very stiff!

Split a coax connection in the living room?

I'm trying to figure out the best path forward. The living room has only one coax port. I got a STB and a modem that also have a coax port. I don't need to maximize performance per se. Is there a splitter-like device to split that one coax port into two?

Longest USB-IF certified 240W charging cable?

Best practice for labeling cables in my structured network enclosure?

I got quite a few number cables to ID. Once I have them, what's the best practice to label them? I'm thinking of using stickers with numbers and then in a spreadsheet describing which room they're going to. Any suggestions on what to buy would be appreciated!

Telus Boost questions and optimizing the settings?

Under WLAN 5GHz, I can't seem to select auto-select without DFS channels. Why?

Is there a way to find out which device is connected to which SSID?

Are the main, guest, and smart device networks totally isolated from each other?

Are the Z-Wave, Bluetooth Low Energy, and Zigbee radios user-accessible? If so, how?

Why is the Smart Device Network's network password unchangeable?

Under a guest network, what is CCMP encryption?

What more can I do to optimize the settings of Boost?

Which router brand will let me manage a network remotely?

Is Ubiquiti the way to go when it comes to managing a network remotely? I have siblings in their condos who don't know anything about networking. My thinking is to buy the Ubiquiti gateway or whichever brand makes the hardware that lets me do this, set it up at my place, then bring it over and install it in their place. Whenever they have problems, I'll try to troubleshoot remotely from my place. How do I do this?

Ideas on how to elevate the router?

I can't wall-mount the router, and my temporary measure is to use boxes stacked together to elevate it. I'm looking for something like a height-adjustable weighted speaker stand. I doubt something specific exists for a router. Just looking for something similar and I'll place the router right on it. Hopefully I can get something that will adjust to at least 6 feet. Any suggestions?

Wired or Wireless: What Should We Hardwire in a Homelab Network, and How Should We Plan for Future Upgrades?[Open Discussion]

We keep seeing versions of this question from people asking how they should plan a home network when their needs may grow over time.

Some already have a homelab, multiple access points, PoE cameras, a NAS, or home servers. Others may not need any of that today—but they’re wondering what they should prepare for while the walls, attic, or cable routes are still accessible.

And it often comes down to the same question:

What should be wired, and what is perfectly fine on Wi-Fi?

The honest answer is usually “it depends.” But the useful part is understanding what it depends on.

Rather than pretending there’s one setup that works for every home, we thought it would be helpful to collect some real-world experience in one place.

If you were starting over today:

  • What would you always wire?
  • What would you happily leave on Wi-Fi?
  • What did you wire that turned out not to need it?
  • What did you leave wireless and later regret?

Maybe that means wiring access points, home offices, gaming PCs, PoE cameras, a NAS or home server—or simply adding drops to places that might become useful later.

The other difficult part is how quickly home networking is changing, especially Wi-Fi and multi-gig networking. Something that feels unnecessary today may become useful later, while something that looks “future-proof” may turn out to be expensive overkill.

If you were planning for the next 5–10 years, what would you prioritize?

Cat6 or Cat6A? Extra drops? Conduit and pull strings? PoE capacity? Fiber to key locations? Space for a rack or additional switches? Preparation for 2.5GbE or 10GbE?

Or would you install only what you need today and avoid spending money on a future setup that may never happen?

For anyone who has already built or gradually grown a more advanced home network:

What aged well, what was overkill, and what is one thing you wish someone had told you before you started?

Hopefully, the experiences shared here can help someone build a network that works for them today, leaves room to grow tomorrow, and avoids opening the same wall twice.

Is the generator's avoid ambiguous characters working properly?

I find Bitwarden doesn't make it easy to distinguish zero from the letter o. So I thought checking to avoid ambiguous characters in the generator would avoid the generation of passwords with o and 0. Sadly, even checking that option, I still get passwords with o and 0. What am I doing wrong? If this is unavoidable, can the developer make it easy to distinguish o from 0?

Why is ctrld not detecting devices connected to my access point?

I'm setting up a new home network with a GL.iNet Brume 3 as the router. I have an Asus RT-AC86U with the Merlin firmware installed and is being utilized as an access point.

Ctrld is installed on the Brume 3, but not on the Asus access point. Yet, I don't see any of the individually connected devices on the access point in my account. As a result, I can't see the statistics for the individually connected devices. What's going on and how can I address this?
