Spare parts from manufacturer and when is a car old?

I heard its 10 years, is that reasonable?

I wonder with technology in China moving so fast, when is a car considered old?

In Australia, there is no specific "mandate" specifying that car makers must hold parts for a set number of years. Instead, under Australian Consumer Law (ACL), manufacturers must guarantee that spare parts and repair facilities are available for a "reasonable time" after purchase.

2001 Safety mods XC70-daily driver (only car)

Volvo purists look away, its 2026.

Back in 2021 (18,249km ago) i installed this TFT screen which displays and audible alarm OBD2 speed Battery Coolant and CEL's. The most important was an overheating coolant alarm but have also experienced an alternator failure that was very slow to alert me. The speed display is very handy and only takes a quick glance as i know exactly where to look.

Found important documents at airport

I arrived 23:00 at Frankfurt airport and really had to hurry to get to the car rental before 23:30 closing. While waiting for my checked bag and trying to call said car rental i found some documents in a trolley. I had a quick look at certificates and referrals. I looked around and could not see anywhere or anyone i could hand them to, i thought about taking them with me but then thought what if the person returns to try and find them? so i left the documents on a nearby table. What would you do?

NOTICE to all XC P2 owners

Cars with the quick connect fuel line fitting. Its been a few years since i changed the fuel filter and i do remember making sure the fitting was secure. However it appears the plastic insert (button) was worn and un-clipped itself while driving. With a small screwdriver i was able to replace just the plastic insert rather than the whole fitting. As a further pre-caution i used lock-wire so it never comes apart by accident.

Mercedes Benz convoy from Germany to NSW

Just spotted the Mercedes Benz 140 years convoy of left hand drive new S-class electric on the NSW south coast, the real give away was signalling left indicator exiting round abouts. The article says they are heading North to Brisbane but i spotted them heading south?? Really wanted to them to stop so i could practice my German "Aber allas gut"

Ordering car parts overseas online -shipping costs?

Need a part for my Euro car (manual gearbox). Hard to find that part in Australia or even have it repaired. Places in Europe are selling but the shipping is a killer, the price to pay for living in Australia?. I put in a request from one seller and was told shipping is too high (1700 euro) they cannot sent? But i am willing to pay. This has happened previously for smaller parts (steering wheel), do they just assume if shipping is more than the item then its "Not worth it"? .

Probably not the best time to get anything shipped. Maybe wait until Australia floats closer to Europe?

I have contacted a few transmission places and all have said NO to opening up a can of worms (Euro manual gearbox) does anyone know of a place?

Australian Dealer price competitive with aftermarket

I have experienced this before searching for P2 parts. Rang the dealership AKA stealership and item is in stock and same price as aftermarket online from China.

Try it, only costs a phone call.

How well does your handbrake hold the car?

Replaced rear disk/drum with Brembo. Sanded/Cleaned with brake cleaner all contact surfaces including old brake shoes. Handbrake has been adjusted to 5 clicks as per Haynes. Not happy, i think it could be better, is this normal??

Handbrake not locking wheel

I recently replaced the rear disks on my 2001 Volvo XC70 2.4 Benzin with manual transmission. I had not noticed any parking issues before replacement. I was expecting i would need to loosen the cable but instead have needed to tighten it?..However after 5 clicks and using all my strength the car still moves.

New brake disks by Brembo. cleaned all surfaces with brake cleaner.

sanded/roughened up handbrake shoes.

Looked at operation of shoes without disk and noticed they move very little, is this normal??

From the picture of the shoes and watching the operation it appears that not all of the shoe is contacting the disk surface..Is there some adjustments that need to be done to the shoe?..i cannot see any.

How Australian Doctors treat Lyme Disease someone that had it.

In 2020 i was returning from Germany/Austria after noticing i had been bitten by something behind my knee. A bright red "tattoo" like rash appeared, i visited a hospital in Malaysia and was given 2 weeks anti-biotics.

Arrived in Australia with random muscle pains coming and going like something was eating my leg and arm muscles also numbness and tingling.

Went to see my local doctor and was given 2 more weeks of anti-biotics and was sent for testing, received positive result but doctor treated it, on pathologists advise as a "false positive" The receptionist leaked this info to me.

Third doctors visit after 2 weeks, still with pains was given anti-biotics and was referred to a specialist.

Specialist finally says "I believe you had Lyme disease, but 3 doses of anti-biotics has most defiantly killed it" also said "only way to get it again is to go overseas" "I have discussed Lyme disease with my colleagues overseas, mainly in the US and its getting more widespread"

As per what the specialist said at around 6 months the pains and tingling stopped, and has not returned.

I have made more trips overseas and avoid long grass, do not picnic near long grass, always full body check before taking a shower.
