Now in my late 20s, How do I make the most of it?

Hey guys, I recently turned 28 and that means that I am not definitely in my late 20s and the big 30 is creeping up on me. I feel happy with my life, but I certainly feel like there's more that I could be doing to make the most of it. Below I have written out sort of how I feel in life.

-I have done a fair amount of travel, in my early 20s I spent a couple years taking multiple several month long backpacking trips and lots of road trips intertwined with college.

-I feel happy and content with my career. I genuinely love most days at work and have worked hard to learn the steps needed for advancement whenever that may come. I wouldn't say that its stagnate but its at a comfortable long term spot.

-I have a healthy savings and retirement. I don't spend a lot of money, I share a small apartment with a couple of friends, I have taken steps to minimize my expenses and maximize my savings. I have slowly started to save for a house, but that's still many years out.

-I have good friends who love and support me and who I love and support. They are younger than me so they keep me young.

-I am active in church and volunteer from time to time.

-I have learned that relationships aren't for me.

-I have a couple hobbies that I am pretty good at, primarily skiing and trail running, though I am experiencing set backs with running due to injuries. I have also taken up target shooting within the last year and have thoroughly enjoyed that.

So with all that being said, I feel that my life is just going, and I am in a holding pattern or autopilot. That's not a bad thing, maybe its just what its like as you get older. But I would also would like to make the most of the next couple years before I turn 30. How do I go about doing so? Thanks everyone!

Anyone else holding off on season passes this year?

With the super el nino and its impacts on the region, as well as the price increase, as anyone else hesitant to buy a pass this year and considering opting for a frequent skier card? Im just really nervous after last year and each year seems to be getting worse for the mountain.

Rainier/North Cascades road trip.

Hey everyone, I am planning a road trip out to the north cascades in a couple weeks for a week. Plan is to just send it. Rainier, Baker, Stevens pass, whatever I feel like. I do have a couple questions.

Mainly, what permits do I need for day hikes? As well as what are campgrounds like? Will I have luck mid week for first come first serve or should I expect to hike in a couple miles each night off a random trail? Do overnight trips in the national forests over there require reservations like they do in national parks?

Also, I know its a very long shot, but what are the chances for a walk up wonderland trail permit for a 4/5 day loop?

How can I learn to be happy single in my life and rely on God for the companionship I desire?

Hey guys, I am a single 28 year old guy who is very lonely. I have never dated, experienced nothing but rejection, and have now missed my chance since there's no dating pool for me at my age. I am pretty sure that I have been given the gift of singleness.

I know that I have God to fall back on, but I dont really know how to rely on him to ease my loneliness and be my partner in life. I have learned to be content with being single, but I am not thrilled about it. I dont know how to let go of my desires to have a partner and be 100% happy single. I have friends and family, and church groups and I spend my time in church, in bible studies and I volunteer, but that doesnt seem to be enough, I still feel something lacking and on top of that I have a pretty high sex drive that I have been unable to kill so I just have to painfully ignore it.

How can I further rely on god to ease my loneliness, be my comfort, be my father and get rid of (or at least learn how to live with) my desire for a partner? How can I learn to accept being single for my life?

(BS7, or 3B) How are younger people breaking into the housing market?

(BS7, or 3B)How are younger people breaking into the housing market?

I am 28 and have a goal of owning my own house someday. However, this seems just plain impossible. I take home about 3900 a month (70k total pretax annual income). I work overtime when possible which can add up to $3,000 a month under ideal situations. But I dont budget for that and it all goes into my HYSA.

At the moment I have about 12000 dedicated to a down payment and am feeding nearly all of my savings each month (about 1200) into this fund which is a HYSA.

Where my problem lies is the cost of houses. The cheapest homes in my area are $300,000 ish, often $350,000. I would need a $180,000 down payment to get the mortage under 1000 a month which is 25% (on a 15 year loan) of my take home pay. This would mean saving for many years at my current saving capacity, which is long enough for home prices to both crash (with luck), or increase enough that I am stuck saving longer.

I don't want to rent forever because rent will and has increase much faster than my wage and I can only work so much overtime.

I am perfectly fine renting for now, even though I hate apartments. I am just trying to figure out how getting into the real estate game is possible and how to plan for it.

Am I ready to buy a house?

Hey guys, I have a friend who is a real estate agent and he recently sent me a posting of a house that has been on the market for almost 600 days. Its a 3 bed 2 bath 1 car garage townhouse for 345k. He says that I should put an offer in for 275k because it has been on the market for so long, and has offered to set me up with a lender meeting.

I am 28, I have no idea what I am doing whatsoever. But I hate living in an apartment. I have 10k (I still have 8k in my emergency fund) available to put down which would put my mortgage at about 2000 a month on a 30 year loan. After taxes and retirement I take home 4000 a month on a 70k annual salary.

2k a month seems steep, but I also have a roommate who would be willing to rent from me to help out with the mortgage. I also have no other debt, and I think my credit is good, no reason why it shouldnt be.

Is this something I should even be entertaining, or am I stupid for thinking about setting up a meeting with a lender?

Thanks for the help.

How do you make more money without going into management?

So this is a big picture question asked by a guy a few years out of college so I might totally be off here.

Say that you are in an organization with roughly 5 levels of promotions, structure etc... With 1 being your tech workers and 5 being your upper management. I am at level 2 in my organization along with 3 peers at my office with my same job. We are overseen by a level 3 who also has 3 to 4 peers, but are of different jobs overseeing a bunch of level 2s with their own jobs. And each level 3 is overseen by a level 4 with a bunch of their peers. You get the picture. This leads to a pyramid level structure where there's less and less jobs the higher you go up.

This also means that each level higher tends to have more management in their role. So in my mind this means that not everyone can get a promotion. When my level 3 boss retires or gets a promotion, I will be competing for his spot (if I choose to do so) against 2 people who have been in the organization for much longer than I have and thus have more experience. The chances of me landing that promotion are small.

People generally say to look at other companies, offices, and so on. This can make sense, but my question remains. How can I compete against applicants from that office who they have close relationships with and who are more experience than me? I can wait 10 to 15 years so I can be the experienced one but then I am taking a chance on timing when a level 3 position will open.

And what if someone doesn't have any interest in management? Promotions are off the table in that instance, but that also means a stagnate salary your whole career.... I guess I am just wondering how all this corporate organization/promotion/tier level system works.

What have you guys learned or can explain to me?

Do I keep the job I love or take a lateral role with a far shorter commute?

Hey everyone, I have this opportunity and I am not really sure what to do.

I am currently in a job that I love and could easily see myself spending the next 30 years at and retiring in. But, I do have a 50 mile one way commute that takes about 50 min to an hour each way.

Recently, the manager at my organizations office closer to my apartment asked me to apply and kept pushing it, so I did just to see what would happen, well interview happened and I have a choice.

This new option is literally the same job, but the office is a 5 min drive from home. Obvious right? Well Not really since I love my current job so much and love the area I work in, the culture, the hidden perks of my office, my coworkers and so much more.

What should I do? I am really hesitant to try a risk and rock the boat and potentially regret a decision.

How can I build self esteem regarding my body?

Hey guys, I have had a problem my whole life where I have zero body positivity, I hate my body. I know I shouldn't, but I do.

Why do I hate it? Well, I am tall, but thats not the problem, the problem is that I am extremely skinny. Like I am only 150 pounds at 6'2". I have always been this way. I am skin and bones. No girl has ever been attracted to me, and I have been rejected due to my weight more times than I can count.

I wish it was easy to just gain weight. I work out, eat lots of food, and am in generally good shape (good heart and lungs and can hike forever), but weak (only a 153 bench on a good day, 185 dead lift, and 95 squat). I'm not skinny fat, just simply skinny, and I hate it. I wish I could just have a normal and attractive build. I have mostly given up trying to gain weight because eating so much food was getting expensive and it was tiring tracking every calorie. There was a point a couple years ago when I was regularly tracking and eating upward of an average of 4000 calories a day and I wasnt gaining weight so I just gave up.

I have been working on building (or trying to build) some resemblance of self esteem this year and my hatred of my body is one of the things that's holding me back.

Anyone have any tips? Thanks

Edit, i am 28

27, M, USA Montana

Area of study/work: I'm a forester. What is that you might ask? Well, I plan logging jobs. I'm in the woods every day, hiking in the mountains counting trees. I also fight wildfire from time to time in the summer.

Hobbies/interests: Anything and everything outdoorsy. Since its summer, its a lot of trail running, kayaking, and backpacking. In the winter, I am usually found on skis or in the climbing gym. I also enjoy wandering around thrift/antique stores, working on cars, and video games.

Tell us a bit about your Christian journey: I grew up christian, and have spent the last few years seriously trying to grow the faith part of my faith. Joined an assembly of God church, been active in 4 to 5 different bible studies and small groups and focusing on learning how to really feel God.

What sort of person are you looking for? Someone outdoorsy like me. A bit of a granola girl and hipster is a plus. Values her faith, health, and family.

Age range: 22/23-30

Would you be willing to do long distance/relocate? Yes, relocate to me, seattle, Denver, Salt Lake are easiest due to flights.

As always, Im open to further questions.

Does anyone else have a body that just hates running?

Hey guys, I have a body that hates me this year.

Let me explain, this year when I have been getting back into running, my lower shins/ankles/achilles, area has been killing me. Doesnt matter how little, or slow I run. Like I can run a 10 min mile once a week and barely be able to run or walk for a few days.

This doesnt make sense because I am in really good hiking shape. I can hike 20 miles with 50 pounds no sweat. But I cant run 1 mile this year?

It just doesnt make sense because I was doing so well last year, like trail running half to full marathons weekly with very little pain, so this year when I started my annual running a few months ago, I was surprised when my first 2 mile run went terribly. So I backed off to work on getting stronger, more stretches and slower paces.

But I am simply not getting stronger this year.

Any ideas?

Locked in contract with faulty phone, how to get out?

Hey everyone. A few months ago I upgraded my galaxy s8 to a galaxy xcover 7 pro and it has been nothing but misery every day due to the phone having issues. It randomly crashes and turns off 20 to 30 times a day.

I am on my parents plan still and I am trying to get out of it. I am told that there is no warranty for my phone and it will cost 800 for me to buy my way out of the plan, plus whatever it costs to buy a new phone.

Am i just stuck with this for the next year and a half?

How do I believe that I am good enough as a guy?

Hey guys, I am a 29 year old guy who has pretty much no dating experience and have always been turned down or rejected. I try to not let this bother me too much and I try to continue to live my life.

But.... It has caused an irrational thought and belief that I have. And that is that I have to be 100% perfect, a 10/10 in order to attract any girl. I logically know that this is false because, look around, look at everyone else who is in a relationship. How many of them are 100% perfect? None. But for some reason, I believe that I am different and I have to be the perfect guy for anything to happen for me.

When someone is rejected a lot, we are often told to look at the common denominator and work on self improvement. And for the most part, I have done the work. I am social and well liked, I am in hobby groups, I am financially secure for the most part (as much as you can be at 29. AKA, no debt). I have a good job and career started, and I am in really good shape (minus some injuries from pushing so hard). I have lofty goals that I strive to work towards.

What has this gotten me? Nothing in regards to romance. And then I am told that I shouldn't do those things just to find a girl, and I haven't (because I am well aware that my long trail run in the mountains isnt the spot I will meet my wife lol). But I am also told to work on myself. This has only led to a negative belief system and moving goalposts of goals and achievements.

Again, I know logically that this is all false, but how can I believe it when the real world doesn't work like that.

If you don't have to be perfect to attract a girl, why am I unable to?
