8/31/2026: Throughout cleaning, Blue was alarm barking every time the back door opened on the public side. At first would stop/quiet down when he saw me passing, but then began to redirect barking and lunging at other dogs walking in front of his kennel.

8/30/2026: After opening, Blue started joining in with the other dogs all alarm barking at people walking through the row. Covered with sheet. Even while covered, Blue was nonstop lunging and forward alarm barking, snarling at people walking through the row.

8/28/2026: Blue presents a neutral body with worried face, he starts to wag his tail whenever I get closer to him. Walks on a loose leash to the runs.

8/25/2026: During morning feedings and walks, Blue was laying down in front of his kennel gate whining non-stop. I gave him some treats to calm him down until I was able to take him outside. He did a good job of keeping his kennel clean overnight. Blue was walked on a semi-loose leash due to him stopping during walks because of the cone. Later in the afternoon, he was still laying down on his stomach and would start to whine consistently until I left the aisle. I offered him a Kong and Nyla Bone but wasn’t interested.

8/20/2026: Dog greeted at the front of the kennel with relaxed body, soft wagging tail, and soft eyes. Easily leashed and walked with a semi loose leash to the runs. Mostly kept to self outside in the runs. Easily leashed and returned to kennel.

Harper tested LOW POSITIVE for heartworms.

She arrived with swollen front legs and puncture wounds on the inside of both forelimbs. She was prescribed Clavamox 250 mg twice daily, Rimadyl 25 mg twice daily and Gabapentin 200 mg twice daily for 14 days.

She has also been vaccinated, dewormed and given preventative.

Behavior Notes:

Harper's is very friendly and greets staff with a loose, relaxed body, soft eyes and a gently wagging tail.

She is easy to leash and walks nicely on a loose leash to and from the outside runs.

6/22/2026: Became submissive and urinated when approached. Enjoyed gentle pets and sought affection by burying herself in the handler's arms. Carried to the intake area where she remained quiet and relaxed.

6/24/2026: Met the handler at the front of her kennel with a wiggly body, wagging tail, and soft mouth. Calm and quiet in her kennel.

6/29/2026: Greeted the handler with a wiggly body, neutral ears, and wagging tail. Described as a very sweet puppy.

7/2/2026: Very sweet and greeted the handler with a wagging tail while licking her nose. Initially did not want to walk on leash and was carried to the runs. Once outside she became a playful puppy, running zoomies with a wagging tail. Walked back inside on a tight leash.

7/6/2026: Princess Daisy enjoys belly rubs, likes spending time in the runs, and happily comes to the front of her kennel with a wiggly body and wagging tail when she sees people.

6/15/2026: Intake exam normal. Initially weighed 28.0 lbs. Vaccinated (DA2PP-V, Bordetella, and Rabies), dewormed, given flea prevention, and Heartworm test: Negative.

💔 For more than 18 days, Melvin has watched people walk past his kennel.

And every day, he greets them the same way:

🐾 Excited anticipation that maybe today will be his day

Staff repeatedly describe Melvin as happy, social, treat-motivated, and eager to interact with people. He keeps his kennel clean, knows “sit,” walks nicely on leash, and loves attention.

When volunteers approach, he rushes forward with excitement. When they leave, he waits again.

Melvin isn’t shutting down.

He’s still hoping.

Despite the stress of shelter life, he continues to greet people with a smile.

Even when he became vocal in the kennel, staff noted that much of it was excitement and eagerness to engage. With treats and guidance, he redirects easily and settles down. He has shown that he wants connection more than anything.

💔 The tragedy is that dogs like Melvin often get overlooked because they seem resilient.

But resilience doesn’t save lives.

People do.

Medical notes indicate Melvin is currently being treated for an upper respiratory infection (CIRD), a common and treatable shelter illness. He is heartworm negative and otherwise appears to be a young dog with so much life ahead of him.

At just over a year old, Melvin should be learning where his favorite spot on the couch is.

Instead, he’s spending his days behind kennel bars waiting for someone to notice him.

Please don’t let his wait end this way.

5/24/2026: Greeted staff with a gently wagging tail and walked semi-loosely to and from the potty yard. Often relaxed on her cot near the kennel door.

5/25/2026: Became vocal while walking by other kennels but greeted staff with a gently wagging tail and walked semi-loosely to the runs.

5/27/2026: Relaxed and quiet in her kennel during feeding and cleaning. Walked on a loose leash.

5/29/2026: Greeted staff with a soft face and neutral body. Easily leashed and walked semi-loosely. Became vocal when a group of customers entered the row but otherwise remained quiet.

5/30/2026: Calm and standing by her kennel door with a slow wagging tail. Walked easily on a loose leash to the runs and back.

5/31/2026: Walked well on a loose leash. Occasionally timid when encouraged but remained quiet in her kennel and enjoyed enrichment.

6/5/2026: Quiet in her kennel and walked on a loose leash to the runs.

6/8/2026: Xena was quiet, calm, and easy to leash. She walked on a loose leash to and from the runs without any issues.

🚑 Medical Notes:

5/17/2026: Weighed 59.0 lbs. Hair loss noted on feet, elbows, and back feet. Vaccinated (DA2PP-V, Bordetella, Rabies), dewormed, and given flea prevention. Heartworm Negative.

5/18/2026: Calluses present on both elbows, back feet, and left thigh. No treatment required at that time per veterinarian.

5/28/2026: Developed green nasal discharge and was diagnosed with CIRDC (kennel cough/URI). Started on a 10-day course of doxycycline.

6/7/2026: URI symptoms resolved and Xena was medically cleared for adoption placement.

Bruce is a terrified, severely underweight black Lab who was found stray and is shutting down in the shelter environment. Scared dogs are often overlooked and become euthanasia targets simply because they are fearful.

Despite being terrified, staff observed NO aggression. Bruce accepted treats, leash handling, gentle guidance, and even allowed soft pets after taking time to trust.

Tyler may be a little unsure at first , he tends to duck from overhead movement and needs a slow, gentle approach. Life hasn’t always been kind to him, and it shows in his cautious nature. But give him time… and you’ll see something really special.
