🔹 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲:

7/27/2026: Stray – Field. Caller reported five pit bulls running loose and attempting to attack people, causing fear among adults and children.

📝 𝗦𝗵𝗲𝗹𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗡𝗼𝘁𝗲𝘀:

8/3/2026: Thumper greeted staff with a neutral body, dilated eyes, soft face, and sniffed toward them. He walked on a semi-loose leash, occasionally rearing with excitement. He remained quiet in his kennel throughout the day. During his afternoon walk he became aroused by jumping, scratching, and pawing at the handler but calmed after spending time in an outside run. He later sat on a bench leaning against the handler and walked back with a loose leash and wiggly body.

8/2/2026: Initially sat in the back of his kennel and approached slowly when called. He walked on a loose leash initially but became more excited outside, walking on a semi-tight leash. In the run he was vocal and wiggly but returned to the kennel on a loose leash with relaxed body language.

8/1/2026: Thumper greeted the handler with a relaxed body, wagging tail, and loose tongue. He walked well on leash at first but became overly excited outside, jumping on the handler, grabbing a shirt with his paws, becoming mouthy toward the leash, and thrashing it. He ignored treats but settled after continued walking before becoming jumpy again when returned to his kennel.

7/30/2026: During a morning move, Thumper repeatedly avoided being leashed by running from the gate. After patient handling, he sat on a bench, approached for affection, and eventually allowed the leash to be placed.

7/30/2026: Thumper was lying quietly in his kennel with a worried expression. He appeared very scared, but after gentle reassurance he relaxed, accepted petting, laid his head in the handler’s lap, and walked calmly on leash.

7/29/2026: Thumper greeted staff with a tense body, worried expression, and tucked tail. He walked on a loose leash to and from the runs but paced constantly and tested the barriers outside. He initially avoided the handler in the run but then approached and was easily leashed back to his kennel.

7/28/2026: Thumper was tucked in the back of his kennel and very aware of his surroundings. After gentle encouragement he began wagging, ran to hide behind the handler, allowed handling, and walked back to his kennel on a loose leash.

Diego arrived at Harris County Pets as a stray on July 4th. Being captured with a catch pole was understandably frightening for him, but despite that stressful start, Diego has shown that he is friendly with both dogs and people.

He has now been waiting at the shelter for weeks and is well beyond the 15-day mark, making him at risk of euthanasia for space. He needs an adopter, foster, or rescue to help him get out safely.

Harris County Pets is overcrowded. Dogs who have been at the shelter for more than 15 days can be at risk of euthanasia for space on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings. Diego has already been there far longer than 15 days.

Kane has already survived things no dog should ever endure.
He was shot in both hips before arriving at the shelter. Despite that unimaginable cruelty, Kane still chooses to trust people.
His brother, Steven, was rescued on July 31. Now Kane is on the euthanasia list, facing the possibility of being left behind forever.

Kane is currently recovering from a treatable upper respiratory infection, has been neutered, is heartworm negative, vaccinated, and is ready for a family that will show him the kindness he’s always deserved.

Princess is in good medical condition. She is heartworm negative, spayed, vaccinated, dewormed, and has received parasite prevention. No medical concerns have been noted during her stay.

🐾Behavior Notes:

Princess is a sweet, gentle young girl who is a little shy when meeting new people. She may approach with a worried expression and a tucked tail at first, but she readily allows herself to be leashed and walks nicely on a loose leash. As she becomes more comfortable, her soft personality shines through with a loose body, wagging tail, and gentle demeanor.

She enjoys slow, quiet walks, will happily accept treats, and remains calm and relaxed in her kennel. Volunteers have also seen her greet them with a soft open-mouth smile and friendly tail wags.
