What exactly does a welfare check mean?

My (former) employer apparently sent the police to do a welfare check after letting me go a few days ago. My former employer and I did not see eye to eye very well, and my former boss and HR department were well aware on the amount of stress and anxiety my job put me through, to the point I'd have regular nightmares about my workplace. I was let go for reasons involving anger issues and bad attitude.

The officer was kind, and asked "you gonna kill yourself or anything" and I said no, and he asked if I had another job lined up to which I responded also with no.

There was something he mentioned about "leaving comments" which is probably referring to the regular notes I left in my former workplace's suggestion box about how much favoritism there was rampant in the workplace, how much stress was being caused, and again regular nightmares. However, those are supposed to be anonymous. I guess not many people were complaining about having nightmares about this job, lol.

Anyway, am I going to be like, watched now? Am I supposed to be extra paranoid now? I don't plan on killing myself, I actually am taking steps to evaluate my medication and try to help myself while looking for a new job. But are the police going to constantly check on me to see if I've killed myself frequently in the future? I'd rather my neighbors not think I'm crazy with an officer coming to knock on my door to see if I've offed myself.

Again, the officer was polite, and left after a brief conversation. I was more confused than anything but kept a positive demeanor.

Just got fired. Looking for new job. What food to make for meals?

I got fired today, and I have plenty of food in the house right now. Lot of frozen stuff. Hopefully I find a new job soon but just in case I need to grocery shop, what can/should I eat and make? I hate doing dishes but at this point I'll do whatever needs to get done. It's just me so I don't need to worry about too much variety like if I had kids.

I am also going to try to count my calories because I'm trying to lose weight (260 pound fatass). I go on regular walks, but I allow myself a calorie budget of 2,257 calories a day by recommendation from MyNetDiary. I eat mostly frozen meals because it's a way of controlling my portions, because I'm an emotional eater (binge eat when sad, binge eat when happy). But again, i'll do what needs to be done. I'll cook even if I don't like it and I'm not good at it.

Maybe I'm overreacting, maybe I'll find a new job soon, but I've been unemployed for months before and I was not so smart about my food choices back then and I don't want to fall into a depressive DoorDash addiction again. I gotta change.

The simpler the better. I just don't want to eat cheap ramen for every meal.

If Hulk had a logo, what would it be?

One of the unique things I like about Hulk is that he doesn't have a symbol or logo like other notable superheroes, like Spider-Man, Batman, Superman, Daredevil, etc.

Was casually looking up Hulk tattoos and realized you could do really whatever you wanted with a Hulk tattoo but not really anything immediately simple, it'd require a little bit of thought to it compared to getting a Batman logo or Spider-Man logo tattoo like other people I've known who have such things.

Genuinely what is the purpose of this thing?

This series has insane quality worldbuilding and that's part of why I love it.

But why does this cat hospital computer thing exist? It angrily tells people when the patient is dying, and tells people that they're going to be discharged before a doctor even does?

Why did they invent this? what does it do?

Do you think any attention will ever be given to Africa in CK?

I didn't know ANYTHING about Africa during this time period other than Mansa Musa existed, and this game actually inspired me to start doing some research on it. It's a very distinct region with lots of potential, and I think if we can start going eastward as far as DLC and flavor, why not start going south?

I'm not sure if anyone else is a fan of it though. But the "Mother of us All" achievement is my current white whale of this game. But Africa just feels like everything else when I do an attempt of it. Wish it had a DLC like the viking one.

How to know if this career is right for you?

Kind of in a rut with my life. I've done mostly blue collar work since graduating college 6 years ago, with some retail and some office work. There's a court reporting school sorta near me that offers an online course and I was thinking that might be a neat direction, I'm just not 100 percent sure I'd like it, so I'm afraid to spend the money.

I got a degree in liberal arts (history), and have done nothing with it. Afraid of going to get a masters because my brother got a masters in like, marketing and even he struggles with finding a job in his field that makes the debt worth it. I feel like all i'm good for is just blue collar warehouse work. Nothing wrong with that kind of work but I feel like I'm capable of more and can offer more to the world than just, stacking boxes or driving a forklift.

I just don't wanna spend a thousand or more on classes or courses when I'm not sure if I'd even like this. I know it's got a good job outlook and I heard the pay is good and there's at least some prestige to it, at least more than blue collar warehouse worker.

I was always detail oriented and just want to feel useful and like I'm worth something. Because I know I'm capable of more than just warehouse work.

What class to choose for DD:DA? I can't decide.

Since restarting is such a chore and multiple saves are not a thing, I want to just choose one to enjoy and go with that the whole game. Fun is my main objective but I can't really test every class.

My first attempt at playing this game I just made a greatsword build but it was slow and couldn't climb enemies that well. I enjoyed it other than that.

What classes should I only trust me, a human, with, vs what can I trust pawns with? Before, I just had pawns do ranged combat.

I never made it very far, only made it to the first major city.

Good comics to read on work breaks?

Looking for a comic I can easily pick up and put down on breaks at work. My breaks are usually 15-30 minutes at a time, and I want something that isn't too dialogue heavy. I have tried older comics, I've been trying to get into the 80s Moon Knight series or Frank Miller's Daredevil, but the walls of text are a little much for that situation, especially since I'm reading on Marvel Unlimited on my phone.

I also am reading the OG ultimate universe following a reading guide, but A) i don't really want to keep glancing at a reading guide instead of reading while at work, and B) the ultimate universe sometimes also has large walls of text

I'm into the Hulk (just finished Immortal Hulk a few months ago actually), trying to get into X-Men (tried Morrison's run but struggling to get into it), Moon Knight, and Daredevil, and sort of interested in Spider-Man comics, and sort of into Thor (tried reading Simonson's Thor but again, walls of text so I'll just read that at home).

I read Totally Awesome Hulk as a work break comic, and Nextwave: Agents of Hate. I tried Matt Fraction's Hawkeye but couldn't get into it.

TLDR: what are easy to read, non super dialogue heavy marvel comics that are pretty isolated storylines that don't need a reading guide or a lot of prior context to enjoy and understand?

Anything similiar to the Logitech G533?

I wear glasses, have big ears, and have a large head. I look like a Ferengi from Star Trek. My G533 has served me well for the past 5 years and now an earpad is falling off. I tried glue, but a week later it started falling off again.

Any other logitech headset I look at doesn't have all the features I want. I like the wheel on my G533 that lets me adjust volume very easily. I like the super adjustable headband for my big ass head, I like the extra large ear pads too. It's like this headset was made for me and it's sad I can't find another one like it. I got a cheap 30 dollar headset off amazon but it's too small for my head and ears.

Need help finding what is skippable and unimportant (as far as we know)

I'm working on a big google doc with essential movies and shows in anticipation of Doomsday. Ever since my brother and I moved out and got older, mainly it's been the two of us going to the theater to see Marvel movies. My parents watched most of the Infinity Saga, barring a few movies they just weren't interested in. I've watched most of it barring some shows (never watched Daredevil or any of the other Netflix Marvel shows but now that they're canon to the MCU I think, gonna watch them)

My parents liked the prequels of the X-Men movies, but not the originals and never watched the Wolverine movies aside from Logan. They just weren't fans of the X-Men but my mom likes some of the actors in the prequel movies.

I'm making a timeline with brief summaries and important characters and story beats for my parents, because I have literally nothing better to do and want to work on something. Don't want to find one already made because I'd rather trust myself to explain stuff to them instead of just finding something and going "here, read this"

I looked up the MCU timeline but the Wikipedia article doesn't factor in alternate universes, just the years. Like, for example, it just throws First Steps into the same timeline as everything else, same with Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man. Like, I don't even think the latter is even in the MCU? At least not the main universe.

Going to go ahead and summarize the X-Men movies for them too.

TLDR: what movies or series have unnecessary knowledge as far as we know?

Can someone please explain what the joke was in this scene?

https://preview.redd.it/zpixmonaqweh1.png?width=948&format=png&auto=webp&s=d67803928f4775c7afd15c587d04e2e471ff7e64

Is it one of those jokes that makes no sense in English? Is she just trying to find words that sound like "Peace" like the brand of cigarrettes Yaniko was smoking? Is this a Japanese style of comedy I don't understand? Or is it unfunny on purpose? Twin Peaks reference was nice though.

Is it better to make a new account for the sole purpose of writing or is it fine to just stick on an account you use for multiple hobbies?

Currently working on a short story, and I have other ideas. I just want to write. Not sure if I'll even post them anywhere, definitely won't be long or good enough for Isaiah and Hunter.

But still, I see them read some stuff and go to people's accounts and sometimes poke fun at what other subreddits they post in, so on the off chance I eventually write something worth an in depth review should I just make an account for the sole purpose of writing, or just go with the flow and risk being made fun of not just for my writing but for my hobbies with this account where I often talk about anime, basketball, and comics?

I know the big hitters on nosleep are actual writers, this will just be a hobby for me. I'm not expecting to make it big or anything.

All of my ideas have no overarching narrative, I just have ideas not worth big multi part stories and working through them slowly. No clue if they're gonna go anywhere, I just want to write so my ideas can exist somewhere outside just my mind.

I know I'm overthinking this but figured it was worth a shot since I'm writing anyway and might post it if my irl friends think it's any good. Tried asking this on the out of character nosleep subreddit but my question never got approved.

Resources for fae and related mythology around faeries and elves?

I am doing research for a short story and want to lean into the scary side of faeries. They have interested me since I was a child and watched/read the Spiderwick Chronicles, especially the idea of changelings, a fae posing as a child that was carried off to live among the faeries.

I don't know if this is a good place to ask this, but I figured they counted as celtic and/or germanic mythology enough to ask this group.

I am simply looking for books and/or good websites to further research. I don't want to wing a story based on such things and don't want to get all my research from the Spiderwick Chronicles, lol.

Resources for more fae related horror?

I'm wanting to work on a short story with fae elements and would like to get inspiration on rules and descriptions. Fae have always interested me since I read the Spiderwick Chronicles and watched the movie, but my only experience with fae related stories are those aforementioned bits of media and the interpretation found in the SCP Foundation universe with SCP 4000.

Neither lean too far into the horror aspect of faeries but still, I was always creeped out by the ideas of changelings from the Spiderwick Chronicles and would like to create more and explore more ideas such as that.

Who are the Grizzlies' biggest rivals?

New to the Grizzlies, trying to learn what I can. I personally despite Golden State and the Dallas Mavericks (I despise any sports team based in Dallas because I despise the Cowboys and hate Cowboys fans so I'll hate any team that shares a home with them)

Didn't know if those overlapped but I'm just curious as to who the biggest rivals are for Memphis
