New Post Flair! "Comic"

Hey Helldivers!

This sub has been honored to see many a web comic inspired by Helldivers populating our space, and with the recent post by "Xan" u/EitherCaregiver697, we will be adding a new post flair. "War Stories (Web-Comic/Graphic Novel)" will be added to the sub, and we hope to see more users feel encouraged to post their stories and artwork here. For single image pieces, the "Fan-Art" post flair will remain.

As our community expands its growth. and as we continue to see more creativity and human art propagate here, we want to encourage and support the people making this sub so special.

Thank you to everyone who is so inspiring to share the art and the work they have spent time on, to depict and flesh out the world of Helldivers. Keep it up!

I also highly recommend checking out the newest webcomic post here: https://www.reddit.com/r/WholesomeHelldivers/s/w94waGpsik

I don't want to outright get overzealous, but is anyone else starting to get a little hopeful again? As a lifelong Xbox fan, I am starting to finally have a bit of hope after many years.

We Hit 5,000 Helldivers. Let's Celebrate the Only Way We Know How.

Five thousand of you. Five thousand. When I started this sub I genuinely thought it would fizzle out in the first week and here we are. I do not have the words for how much this community means to me so instead we are going to do what Helldivers do best.

We are dropping.

Two Weeks of Community Game Nights!

Starting this week we are organizing two weeks of community game nights, parties, and dives to celebrate hitting this milestone together. Over the course of the next two weeks you will have the chance to squad up with fellow members of r/WholesomeHelldivers and just have a genuinely good time. Some of you will even get the chance to drop alongside myself, u/Hiroki_Sadoki888, and u/SEAF_Chan directly. Keep an eye on posts throughout the two weeks for details on when and how to join up.

What Are We Doing Out There?

We are pushing the Major Order because democracy does not take days off. But we are also running some fun gimmick dives along the way because sometimes you just need to embrace the chaos. Think full flame loadouts, spears and shields only, whatever ridiculous builds make you laugh. No sweat, no stress, just good people having a good time spreading managed democracy across the galaxy.

Join the Discord!

A huge shoutout to u/Affectionate-Memory4 who has been running our community Discord server and will also be organizing groups throughout these two weeks. If you want to coordinate dives, find squads, and stay up to date on everything happening jump in here:

Thank You! <3

5,000 members is not a number. It is 5,000 real people who chose to be here. Who chose kindness, good faith, and genuine love for this game over everything else the internet could have offered them. That means everything.

Now let us get out there and make Super Earth proud.

For Super Earth! For Liberty!

The new ODST Drop Pods are not scaled properly, and are too small.

When putting an ODST against the pod, placing their waist at the level of the seat, you can see that the ODST is larger than the chair inside. If the ODST were to sit inside, they have to have their head curled forward to be crammed into. The pods are definitely to small for the proper scale of the game. Bit bummed out, and now its one of those things where you can't unsee it. Im a bit surprised if I am being completely honest. These are tiny.

Will Mantic be making the Flashpoint App an actual app over a web browser experience?

Just wondering if that will be a thing, and if there's a timeline.

Introducing Our New Deputy Mod: SEAF-Chan! (Full Time Slots Are Still Available)

Hey Helldivers, a couple of quick updates before I head out.

First, some of you may already know u/SEAF-Chan as a familiar and beloved face in this community. I am happy to announce that they have graciously volunteered to step in as Deputy Moderator while I am away on vacation through the beginning of June into early July. This is a temporary role for the duration of my absence and they have my full trust and confidence in keeping our corner of the galaxy safe and wholesome while I am gone. Please show them the same respect you would show any member of the Mod Team because they deserve it.

Hiroki will of course continue holding things down as Senior Moderator throughout this time as well. The sub is in good hands.

Second, and I will keep this brief, we still have two permanent Moderator spots open and the application window is still live. If you have been sitting on the fence about throwing your name in now is actually a great time. With me stepping back for a few weeks the sub could genuinely use some extra hands on deck, and there is no better way to show what you are made of than stepping up when it counts. All the details on how to apply are in the recruitment post pinned to the sub.

See you all on the other side of July. Keep it wholesome out there.

The Mortal Kombat 2 movie made me fall love with Mortal Kombat 1 (game) after trashing on it. I am so glad we got this film.

I played the beta for this game, and was pretty excited to check it out, despite having reservations about the Lameo system. I played it, and absolutely hated the game, I did not give it a fair chance as I gave up right after the Smoke fight. I know.

This movie made me revisit the game, and while the writing is definitely bland at times and generic, and I have some gripes about the clean artstyle, the game is fun. Letting goof my prior discontent and issues made me appreciate the fun new story being told, and I acknowledge that if I ever wanted to revisit the older games, I can.

To Ed Boon and the entire team behind the new film, thank you.

With Noble Team launching and sending us back to Reach, I thought I would try my hand at a Reach themed basing for our Mark V [B] Spartans. (With instructions)

Reach has this gorgeous rugged and arid landscape coupled with that ever so subtle sepia inspired color palette in its drier regions and honestly it immediately grabbed me when I started thinking about how I wanted to base this Spartan.

Before I get into it I should be upfront that I don't personally believe in rebasing models, so all of this was done entirely on the original base model straight out of the box.

The Rocks

To match the terrain I started with the rocks. I took some old wine bottle corks and used the natural curvature already present in the material to perfectly accent the curve of the base which worked out really well. After snipping them down to size I superglued the cork pieces to the base and then brush primed everything using Army Painter brush on primer. Once that dried I applied their Dark Tone Wash to deepen the grey and push shadows down into all the cracks and crevices which gives the rocks a lot more depth right away.

From there I dry brushed in progressively lighter tones using Army Painter Uniform Grey, then Ash Grey, and finally a very light pass of Army Painter Company Grey on the highest points. After that I went in with tiny small dots using a generic brand Burnt Umber and wet blended it in to add just a touch of warm coloration to the rocks which really helps sell that Reach palette without being too on the nose about it.

The Ground

For the ground texture I used Monument Hobbies Pro Acryl brand Concrete Extra Fine basing texture. I want to note that I actually apply this before priming the rocks so everything has similar drying times and you aren't waiting around forever between steps. After spreading it out to the thickness and texture I wanted, I let it fully dry.

Once dry I mixed together Army Painter Burgundy Brown, Leather Brown, Prairie Ochre, and Wasteland Clay. I started by painting rough lines where I wanted each color to transition then went back in with wet blending to get this really nice layered and multishaded look across the ground. I kept the darker tones closer in around the base of the rocks. Remember that Reach especially in areas like Tip of the Spear is bone dry and dusty so leaning into those warm earthy tones really helps capture that feeling.

The Grass

Last up is the grass and for this I use Gamer Grass tufts because they are just so easy to place. Out in the real world you never have just one species of grass or shrubbery growing in a spot so I used two different types here. The larger pieces are Light Brown 6mm uniform patches which I pushed down into the crevices beneath the rocks and the smaller pieces are Tiny Dry Green 2mm tufts to fill in the smaller gaps and complement what the bigger grass patches are already doing.

Wrapping Up

All in all I am really happy with how this turned out. This Spartan genuinely looks like they are standing out on the frontlines of Reach ready to defend and call in an air strike at a moment's notice. My next post is going to be a proper visual step by step for anyone who wants to follow along more closely so stay tuned for that!

Hope you enjoyed checking this out and I hope this little guide helps anyone else trying to get some Reach vibes going on their bases especially with the new gaming mat dropping soon!

First time posting. Some comments said it was AI, but it seems consistent across the brick work to me. Thoughts?

I personally don't believe this is AI. The bricks seem consistent, the window being affected by his elbow, the way he moves. I think this guy is just super fit, and should be in an Assassin's Creed movie. But I know AI advances every day, so who knows.

We Are Looking for Two New Moderators For r/WholesomeHelldivers

Hey Helldivers,

The sub has grown to over 4,300 members and we are incredibly proud of what this community has become. With that growth comes responsibility, and it is time to expand the Mod Team.

We are opening up two Moderator positions and we want the community to be part of filling them. You will have exactly seven days from the date of this post to apply, so do not sleep on it.

What the Role Involves:

As a Moderator you will be responsible for monitoring posts and comments for rule violations, removing content that breaks sub rules, addressing reports in a timely manner, and keeping an eye on mod mail. You are not here to dictate the tone of the community or protect any individual, developer, or entity from valid criticism. You are here to serve the people of this sub, full stop.

Requirements:

You must be 18 years of age or older. This is a firm requirement and non negotiable. All applicants must send me a direct message privately disclosing their date of birth to confirm they meet this requirement before their application will be considered. This information will be kept strictly confidential and used for verification purposes only.

You must be at least Level 50 in Helldivers 2. Include a screenshot of your in game level directly in your application post. Applications without this screenshot will not be considered.

You must have genuine availability. We are specifically looking for people who can be active and present on a consistent daily basis. Please include your general availability and time zone in your application. This is important to us as we need coverage across different hours of the day. Currently, anyone in a Eurpean Time Zone will hold a slight preference due to the difference in time from the current NA Mod members.

You must be comfortable being criticized. Thin skin and big egos are what brought down other communities in this space. Members of this community are allowed to critique moderators when it is warranted and our mods need to be okay with that.

You must have read the subreddit rules in full before applying. This is not optional.

How to Apply:

Make a post introducing yourself as a candidate. Title it exactly as follows: "My name is (your name, username, or gamertag), and I am applying to be your Moderator." In the post tell us who you are, what your personality is like, why you love the game, your general availability and time zone, and why you believe you are ready to serve this community, as well as what brought you here in the first place. Include a screenshot of your in game level, and feel free to share gameplay screenshots, highlights, fan art, or anything else that gives us a better picture of who you are as a player and a person. The more you show us the better.

Once your post is live send me a direct message with your date of birth to complete your application. (Of comfortable, and image of an ID only showcasing your DOB, no other information is necessary.)

Community members are encouraged to weigh in. If you have any objections or concerns about a candidate contact us through mod mail at any time. After seven days the Mod Team will review all applications and community input and select our two new Moderators.

Moderator Code of Conduct:

All Moderators of this sub are held to the following standards at all times.

Mods may not remove posts or comments solely because they contain criticism of the game, the developers, or the moderation team. Mods may not engage in or encourage toxicity toward any member. Mods may not use their position to push personal agendas or biases. Mods are subject to the same rules as every other member of this community.

Violation of any of these standards is grounds for immediate removal.

A Few Final Notes:

Moderators are subject to removal at any time if they are found to be violating sub rules, engaging in toxic behavior, or abusing their position in any way. While removal may happen without prior notice in severe cases, we are committed to being transparent with the community about moderation decisions whenever possible. No additional mod slots will open beyond these two until a genuine need arises.

This community was built on the idea that the people running it should serve the people in it. If that sounds like you, we want you on the team.

A Personal Note | Feeling Grateful

Hey Helldivers,

Going to keep this one short and sweet.

Today is my birthday, and honestly I could not think of a better way to spend it than reflecting on what we have all built here together. When I started r/WholesomeHelldivers in March, I genuinely was not sure it would amount to anything. I just knew I missed what this community used to feel like and wanted to try and bring that back somewhere.

4,300 of you later and I am still kind of in disbelief.

This place means a lot to me. Not because of the numbers, but because of the people. The way you show up for each other, the memes, the clips, the conversations, the moments that remind all of us why we fell in love with this game in the first place. That is what makes this worth it.

So thank you. Genuinely. This community is one of the better things going on in my life right now and I do not take that lightly.

Now somebody go drop on a bug planet in my honor.

For Super Earth! For Democracy!
