Ulver - Bergtatt
Any more melodic or folk that mix harsh and clean vocals (1184 is another of my favorites)
I found this piece past the S curve almost up to the mill D trailhead. I had no idea that the Shores of Lake Bonneville were that far up the canyon? Are there any geologist out there that can better explain this to me?
Not that I must come to the rescue for an album I love, but I figured I would share why I love it.
I am a visual artist (and besides loving the visuals for Deafheaven’s entire discography) I am obsessed either way art that prominently features Contrast. I am a little late to the game with his band as I’ve only been listening for about two years now …but, another visual artist that features great contrast is Gustave Klimt. His work has intricate patterns with gold and gorgeous pops of color… but the facial portraits are organic, smoothly blended realism… a great contrast with the rest of the canvases
In music I also gravitate towards great contrasts. Elliott Smith wrote beautiful melodies that the Beatles would envy contrasted with devastating lyrics about addiction and loss. Sonic Youth has poppy structured songs that melt into seas of distortion. My favorite metal band is SIGH, who’s albums are like an amusement park ride that goes from BM to pretty much everything else on earth
Which brings me to OCHL. To me, it strikes the perfect balance between the harsh vocals and the beautiful, dreamy, Shoegaze compositions. I love all of their albums, but I feel like each of the others lead a little too much towards one of the other. Where is this one walks the line perfectly.
TLDR: I love this album because to me its the perfect mix of “Black” & “Gaze”
Just one man’s opinion, and I felt like sharing here.

And yes, I reserve the most hate I have for the Phins. They bring me the most pain
Boomer Mom just passed away on Sunday. She’s been in bad shape for a couple years so it’s actually a relief that she’s done suffering. So I’m going through a range of emotions from relief, to sadness.
BUT my sister and I are now in charge of going through all of her stuff in her apartment and storage unit. Need some angry, aggressive music to push me through the work load ahead of me. Bonus points if the songs reference some of the various emotions on this roller coaster I’m currently on.
Posted just a couple months ago on here about putting her into an assisted-living. Pretty typical boomer parent. That was absent emotionally and physically for a lot of of my formative years. I was mostly raised by my grandparents.
Kind of a weird emotional spot. She’s been miserable for years because of her health. So we’re very relieved for her. happy that the physical suffering is over.
But obviously at the same time … my mom died. So I should be sad… right? Kind of walking around feeling both emotions at the same time and it’s kind of a surreal experience overall.
