Being queer and working w older kiddos

I’ve worked w kids 6 and under , primarily nonverbal as an RBT.

I recently starting working w kids around 10 but they want me to also work w a 17 year old. I am a man married to a man. Just kinda unsure how to go about questions.

Like I wear a wedding ring so if a kid asks abt it or something like what do other queer people in the field normally say. I also live w my husband obviously so if I talk abt like my weekend am I supposed to say like my friend?

Edit: my concern is parents. Like if they go home and say I’m married to a dude and then the parent is homophobic

New clinic threatening punishment a lot

Came from a clinic w kids 6 and under. There was no punishment ever.

This clinic I started at last week is mostly around age 10. The techs constantly threaten punishment. “If you don’t calm down we’re going to be done playing”

Today we were playing outside there was a big puddle. My kiddo drove a bike through a puddle and I asked him not to and he did it again. Another tech told my kid not to do it again or we’d go inside. I know she had good intentions but I didn’t want her to threaten that. There was a few feet space they had to go through to get to the puddle so I just stood in that space and said we would play on the other side. The kid had no issue and I just stood in the way to make sure.

I don’t like that the techs constantly threaten punishment. Yea sometimes it might be needed. But try some antecedent intervention or something first like tf.

This place has done lots of respite but just started ABA a few months ago. I’ve only been an RBT for 6 months. I wanna bring it up to the BCBA but I’ve literally been there less than a week. I also am not used to working w this age group. Is this normal? Should I say something?

Going from early intervention to primarily teenagers

I’ve been working with early intervention (2-7 years old ) for shot three months. I start a new job this week working somewhere that accepts 2-21 years old but primarily teenagers.

Just looking for general advice. I’m a little nervous since aggression is manageable if they’re four but will be a lot worse if they’re 15 , same w diapers

Just got all A’s for the first time in college

I’ve (23M) worked so hard for this degree. When I came out as trans to my parents they cut me off financially and took away my loans to make me homeless. I had to drop out of college which was devastating to me.

After taking time off I went back for a year before dropping out again bc doing in person school and working was just too much. Finally went back online so I could work full time.

Worked 60 - 70 hours a week while doing part time online school. I made rlly good grades in high school but that hasn’t been the case in college bc of everything I’ve been experiencing. I was going to graduate December 2026 but decided to take extra classes to be done this summer.

I took 7 classes, the most I’ve ever done, and even had to get approval to do it and I fucking got all A’s!!! I am so proud of myself. I was so nervous bc I rlly wanted to raise my gpa but also wanted to take extra classes to graduate.

I worked 40-50 hours a week this semester which helped since I also switched jobs. Me and my partner got married and we moved across the country to a more accepting area

I always knew I was capable but it’s just crazy how much your situation affects it. So so so grateful to be in such a good place mentally. I love my husband and our little life.

I’m getting my bachelors in psych and then in fall will start my masters of social work. I wanna help people, specifically victims of domestic violence.

I’ve never rlly made a post like this before so thanks for reading. I just rlly didn’t know if I’d get this close to graduating and make such good grades. I will be able to do everything I’m determined to do with it my parents support. I’m 23 now and so greatful I pushed through the hard time.

At my clinic adults and kids share the same bathroom. It is just a regular bathroom, no stalls. We close the door when we take the clients to the bathroom. I was never explicitly told not to lock the door w clients but I feel like it’s kinda understood.

Today I was changing a client and someone knocked on the door saying I needed to unlock it. I had no idea I locked it, it was just out of habit since I obviously lock it when I use the bathroom. I unlocked it and that was that. She didn’t come in or anything.

I just feel anxious abt it. I truly didn’t realize it was locked and was confused what she meant at first

I’m switching jobs and the new job we go swimming once a week (working w kids 3-17). I love swimming but I have boobs lol.

Usually when I go swimming I just wear a sports bra bc idc what random people think. I also don’t care if my coworkers realize I’m trans bc I don’t plan to hide it. My concern is the kids. I don’t rlly wanna answer questions or maybe I do and then parents get mad.

My chest is like a C cup I think. I’m chubby so I just wear big t shirts or a sweatshirt usually. I’m thinking abt getting a swim shirt but I just know my boobs will be obvious through them.

Just don’t know what to do

I(M23) currently make $2.4k a month but will be making $3.5k a month within a few weeks.

Currently making $20hr full time (~35hours/week) and was making $15/hr (~10 hours a week). I start a full time job making $25/hr (-38hours/week) and just started a side job making $20/hr (~10hours a week).

I’m married and me and my partner have our personal accounts and then a shared account for bills and stuff. I put $1500/month into the joint account.

I’m currently getting my bachelors and am $70k in debt:( I graduate this summer and then start my masters online in the fall (should take two years). My tuition will be around $5500/ semester so I am rlly hoping to pay it out of pocket with the help of a four month payment plan and not get anymore debt.

I will be getting paid around $750/week full time and then $500/month from the part time job.

My plan is go my first two paychecks from the full time job to go to bills, one paycheck for school, and the other one for me (but I do plan on putting most of that towards school). Then the $500 from my part time job goes to school.

This would put me at $1500/month going to school, and $6000 saved up by the fall. I definitely see myself being able to work this much that semester, but starting in the spring I’ll need to do a 15 hour a week internship (most likely unpaid). So I prob wouldn’t be able to work as much.

When fall comes, I’d like to put $2.5k towards school and pay the rest through a payment plan from paychecks that come during that time. Then that $3.5k for spring semester. And try to pay ment plan the rest.

I also am putting the money for school in vanguard, not a savings account.

I know this is a lot and kinda all over the place so if it doesn’t make sense let me know. Just looking for guidance bc I rlly don’t wanna get anymore debt :(

Jobs in my area pay $35/hr for what I wanna do when I graduate so I do think I’ll be able to pay it off within five years w my partners help, but just rlly don’t wanna get anymore debt

Okay so stuff has hit the fan at my clinic and like 80% of techs are applying to jobs and trying to leave. I have an interview somewhere Thursday and another place also reached out to me. My town had like 7 different ABA places so there’s definitely options.

But what do I even look for? How can I know it’s a good place before starting? I’ve been at my clinic for a few months and it has been a good experience overall but we pay terribly.
