your second piece can be just a "draw this in my style" if you are unable to come up with anything to start a second piece, but I find working on two pieces at the same time completely refreshes my perspective and gives me better judgement, which helps come up with new ideas.
I believe this is also how the greats did it, they were always darting from one artwork to another and going back between them.
