What’s the Story with the USIA?

I haven’t played the new DLC yet but was wondering this after playing through a couple missions. I was playing Lethal Obsession and the one mission with the cult back to back and there seems to be an odd trail. The prime suspect in the former seems to be a former member of the US intelligence community given his tapes he’s left around, couple that with the weird drawings of judge and I was wondering what’s the role the USIA plays in the story that we can’t see yet and if they are doing something, is Judge a sleeper agent or is being pushed to act out with their goals in some way?

What are your thoughts on it or do you have more info regarding this?

Mods that improve the AI?

Hello! Just got this game recently and already dumped some 20 hours into it. Really fun though I’m having issues with the AI, specifically lancemate AI as they feel really inconsistent, sometimes they’re okay and other times it feels like the AI is completely lobotomized and will actively go out of their way to walk into my sightline when firing or will needlessly fling themselves onto the enemy and die. I’m also having a serious pathing problem where if there’s any map with rough terrain like ravines the AI will just get stuck on the rocks.

I was wondering if there’s any mods to improve the AI and what you would recommend? Thank you

Are espionage ideas good?

I want to play a game of EU4 where I can influence the countries around me/ the continent using as much espionage as possible, is this really viable and would espionage ideas actually be good for this? I heard it used to be pretty bad but don’t know if it still is

Can I Attend an Orthodox Service if I am not Orthodox?

Good day and God bless you. I’m wondering if I can attend and Orthodox service if I am not Orthodox. I’m an Eastern Catholic (Byzantine) and a friend of mine attends a Ukrainian Orthodox church which I’ve thought of attending, in part because I want to see how similar services are and out of curiosity, especially since I have a lot of reverence for a lot of the practices that I’ve heard of in the church, which is rooted in church tradition.

I know taking communion would be off limits but is it possible to attend and just stand in the back? Thank you.

A horror film disguised as a superhero film would be pretty cool

This is semi-related but I’ve thought about this concept for a while where there is a sort of vigilante superhero type like a batman or what have you, except instead of beating up criminals he just kills them and turns into a sort of spree killer. I don’t know if there’s any films like that out there in the horror genre but I thought it would be a cool concept especially as more of a psychological thriller as the lines between doing things in the name of justice and just doing outright brutal and evil things are blurred and it offers an interesting spin on that genre which I feel has been beaten half to death and is outright overproduced.

What are your thoughts on this concept or what would you do with it if you were a writer or producer?

I feel like the show rendered everything that happened in New Vegas meaningless

I understand what the show runners were going for by not wanting to canonize one ending however I feel like in an effort to not do so they in turn went the completely opposite direction by trivializing anything that happens in New Vegas by returning it to an anarchic hellscape where every faction collapsed. If you boot up NV and want to get invested in the story or RP or whatever, at some point you’re gonna likely ask “what is it all for?” If whatever you achieve narratively means nothing and is effectively reversed within 30-40 years. This also has the knock-on effect of questioning in any future releases if they’re gonna do the same thing. Why should I get invested in the story if shit’s gonna crumble anyways.

This is kind of a dumb rant but I wanted to talk about it since I feel an odd existential dread whenever I boot up NV now. Also RIP the King they did you dirty.

Edit: spelling error

Batman as a horror villain?

I was playing Arkham City and was thinking of how scary it must be to be one of those grunts and having batman show up out of nowhere just to crash your skull.

It made me wonder; has there been any horror-renditions of batman as the horror villain? I feel like this would be an interesting spin on the batman villain concept, especially with the more modern, gritty interpretations of the character.

I truly do think this game would be peak if we just had a better war system

I’ve tried to like this game so much, I’ve put maybe 200-300 hours in and there’s something there I do enjoy. I like the politics system (specifically BPM’s rendition of it with ideologies included), the economy is serviceable. The only thing that takes me out of it (besides the AI where I feel nothing really happens internationally) is the war and combat systems. I’ll be honest and this is an unpopular opinion; I do not care about “line go up”, I don’t care about the economy as for me it’s just a means to an end of whatever goal I’m working towards, usually building and sustaining an empire which includes building an economy for war. The economy for me is a means to an end and not an end in and of itself.

I just can’t enjoy this war system and it takes me out of it. Any other Paradox game has a better war system, even if they ported the Stellaris fleet system it would be better. Hell I truly believe March of the Eagles has a better war system as at least it adds player agency. It doesn’t feel good to lose because of factors outside of my control or with whatever is going on with the naval invasions system.

I know development is too far gone and I’m basically shouting at clouds but if they just added in a better war system I truly think this game would be peak and feel more like a grand strategy game. Though I’m also not the target audience probably as I want an imperialism sim with economics on the side and not an economics sim with imperialism on the side.

Is there any Marxist or derivative thought that incorporates or respects tradition, nation and religion?

I’ve wondered this for some time especially in regards to what I personally believe. I generally don’t mind aspects of Marxism despite being on the political right. I’ve read the Communist Manifesto and Capital and whilst I don’t agree with everything in it, I believe Marx made some salient point and outlines some of the major pitfalls of capitalism. I’d even go as far to say that, despite being right-wing, I believe capitalism is probably one of if not the most destructive and harmful force in contemporary society, one that squeezes any semblance of meaning in one’s life and on a macro scale it undermines traditional culture, religion and community and either breaks them up or commodifies them.

Despite agreeing with at least the basic critiques Marx laid out, I do find myself wanting something or looking for something that incorporated the needs and aspects of nationality, tradition and religion. I’m economically agnostic but I don’t believe a society that exists without these elements are worthwhile places to live in. If we look at our contemporary globalized liberal democracies for example, we are inundated with material goods, things to buy and any means to express yourself yet people are empty and lonely, they lack meaning and belonging which I believe only occurred when society moved away from those traditional societal structures and foundations that created common community and values, it created a metaphysical reality or at least an aspiration that was higher than the individual and I believe once that was lost we slowly inched towards what Emile Durkheim described as *anomie*, on other words we became an atomized society.

I’m interested in exploring the alternative thoughts of marxism that still incorporates these elements. I know it’s not an impossible task if we look at marxist states historically, many of which incorporated varying levels of nationalism, traditional and folk culture and practices as well as even religion in some cases.

I would like to hear your thoughts or perhaps some resources on this topic, thank you.

Was there really a possibility of Chernobyl causing a regional/continental long-lasting radiological disaster?

I know in the show there was some fear about how if the fire and fallout wasn’t contained as well as the chernobylite and corium that risked flash boiling the reserve water in the basement that it would create a mass radiological disaster as radioactive particulate would be carried throughout Eastern and Central Europe. I know when the disaster happened there was an uptick in radiation in neighboring countries but how likely was it that the Chernobyl disaster would’ve created such a long-lasting disaster and how that would’ve looked? Would it create fallout in the way we traditionally think of it where we wouldn’t be able to grow crops over vast swathes of land due to contamination? The closest I could see happening is a much larger scale of contamination in the Pripyat river and thus the larger Dnieper and all subsequent rivers and lakes it drains into, which could pose a major risk to daily water access as well as agriculture in the same vein as what occurred in the Church Rock Uranium Mill disaster in the States in the 70’s.

What do you think though? Was a much larger disaster actually feasible and if so what would it have looked like?

I’m being discharged and I feel weak because of it

I’ve learned I’m being discharged soon due to faulty paperwork surrounding mental health issues I have which has invalidated my service. I’ve been trying to do everything to get help and get better as well as stay on top of it however I can’t help but feel weak. I’m going into work any I see my coworkers and they all know I’m leaving, I feel shame whenever I’m doing my work and can’t stop berating myself over being let go. The people I talk to tell my it’s not my fault but I don’t believe them, I look into their eyes and I can see their contempt, or maybe it’s pity. I just hate it with a passion, I want to stay, I hate myself so much for not being normal and not being able to do what everyone else in my unit is able to do without issue.

Is playing killer actually fun?

I bought dbd a little while back and had fun in the tutorial, mainly as killer however I haven’t touched matchmaking at all. I’ve heard a lot online about how playing killer is unbalanced and unfun with things like flashlights or gen rushing so I figured I should ask, is it actually fun to play killer in this game?

The traditional Polcom test is a really poor barometer for political leanings

Took the test after not taking it for a few years and the 8values test for comparison of my political leanings. I’d consider myself a Catholic integralist and prefer a mixed economic, corporatist or top-down distributist model.

Why doesn’t English use the “gutteral” /r/ sound found in French or German?

I’ve always found this weird since English itself is a language adapted from a mix of old German dialects such as that of Old English as well as Old and Middle French and some Norse dialects. Given this, why wasn’t the gutteral /r/ in German or modern French or the rolled /r/ in Latin and Old French carried over into English, be it British English or American English?

Could you realistically just wait out the apocalypse?

This is more of a lore question than a gameplay one. Given that the Knox virus, whilst able to reanimate is still a virus and relies on an organic host, could any would-be survivors just wait until most or all of the zombies died out from a lack of sustenance? I mean it doesn’t seem like they’re capable of the brain function to scavenge or hunt for canned food or anything so after enough time their body would be unable to continue to operate, even with the virus.

Given this, if you had the supplies to just wait underground for a few years do you think you could just outlast the zombies through attrition?

My depression is leading to me being discharged from the military

I hate this illness and myself so much. I’ e been dealing with depression for some time and have been notified I will be medically discharged from the military after a visit to the hospital and it’s left me feeling so despondent. I love my job, at least I think I do. I’ve lost care in most other things. This damn illness really takes everything from you, huh?

Why is the contemporary KMT so pro-CCP?

I want to preface by saying I am a foreigner with most of my knowledge of the ROC being from the Chinese Civil War and early Cold War period, so my knowledge on politics there is very spotty, especially politics post 1987 after martial law was rescinded. I’ve been reading more into politics in relation to ROC-PRC relations in part for my degree and one thing I’ve found strange is the contemporary KMT’s amicable relations with the CCP, which makes little sense to me. The KMT is the party of Chiang Kai-Shek and the section that fought the CCP during the civil war. One could say that besides the foundations set by Sun Yat-Sen, the KMT has been explicitly marked by its opposition to the CCP, why are they then working with the CCP in the modern day?

Irregular enrollment questions?

I was told I’m being released under irregular enrollment since I was not put on a wait list to see if I’m mentally stable after disclosing my mental illness during my enrollment. I don’t know what to do now or what’s going to happen to me now. I’ve been in for over a year and I enjoy my job, it’s also my sole form of income so I don’t know what’s going to happen to me now

I know this is hard to answer without being more specific to my situation but I had some questions regarding this;

  1. is this the equivalent of a dismissal with disgrace?

  2. if I apply at a later time where I got better, would I need to repeat BMQ and all my trade training?

Thank you.

I’m getting released from service in my country’s military and I don’t know what to do

I’m getting medically released for mental health reasons (depression, suicidal thoughts) and now I don’t know what to do. It’s not effective immediately but I needed this to pay rent and for food. The economy is really bad in my country and youth unemployment is nearly historic levels and I don’t know what to do, especially since my condition likely limits what I can do
