Is bannerlord worth getting?

Title. I have a couple hundred hours in warband both modded and native and though the thought has come up I’ve never picked up bannerlord. I’ve heard some saying modded warband is superior but wanted some opinions, what are your thoughts?

I feel guilty about my depression/mental illness

I’m living at home again after some time away from home where I was both going to university and was in the military. I’ve spent most of my adolescence onwards to adult life dealing with mental illness (I’m 24) which itself stems from some stuff that happened in the past. I was released from the military recently where my depression got so bad that I had to be hospitalized for a short period of time, which led to my file being reviewed and determined that I was no longer medically fit to serve, which was probably the right call even though I loved my time in as I also spent everyday for almost a year wanting to end my own life. Since that point I’ve been a wreck, I barely leave my room and feel a lack of energy. In some ways it feels like I’m in the process of dying or like nothing I do matters. I haven’t even picked out classes or housing yet for the next semester and it starts in less than a month. I think often about not living and I just don’t have the energy to do this stuff. When I go to my parents and explain it to them however I feel guilty and like a waste. They put so much faith in me only for me to be weak in turn. They have their own issues, life stuff and health related things, they don’t deserve to have a complete failure of a son freeloading off of them as well.

Do you think we will see new content between now and when the movie comes out?

I can’t wait to see the next episode and what’s done with it especially after Adam’s fall but with Alex working on the film I wonder if we’ll see any new content between now and then. Do you think we’ll see any more content beforehand or no?

How do you survive on Ice Sheets and other places with little food?

I was thinking of trying somewhere hard for my next settlement. I’ve played games in the jungle and where you get snow but never one in places where there’s little food like ice sheet or extreme deserts. What do you do in these sorts of starts? I know shelter is an immediate necessity because of the weather of course and have thought of just tunneling into mountains for that but have wondered what to do about the food situation. Any advice?

Is anyone else unnerved by the route the church has been taking?

I thought things would be different when Pope Leo ascended to the cloth but I’m not so sure now. I’ve returned to the church after some time and even though I’m back I have the nagging feeling that the traditions of the church, church teachings and practices are under attack from within the church and church hierarchy. I read recently that the Pope agreed with a letter from one if the cardinals to limit the traditional mass for instance, things like this and the increasingly ecumenical stance makes me feel as if the church has been taken over by modernizing ideologues who want to change what it is from the inside or are trying to at least.

Discharged from the army and now I have no direction in life

I (24m) was medically discharged from the army due to severe mental illness. I enjoyed my time there even though it likely wasn’t good for me mentally and now I don’t know what to do. I’m a university student but even though I go back in a month I have not picked out classes nor have I arranged housing and don’t know if I’ll be able to secure housing. I’ve been stuck in a depressive loop where I don’t want to go anywhere or talk to anyone, I play video games for most of the day everyday and get high. I just feel directionless, like one of the few places I had meaning and community is gone now.

I’m pretty much done my undergrad now and was thinking about law school but I’m also not sure, I’m interested more in politics and history than law and I’ve heard it’s extremely stressful which after what happened I don’t know if I’ll be able to handle it. My therapist I’m seeing says it’s alright to not know what I want to do but I feel directionless and would like some advice.

Canada isn’t a liberal democracy

I’ve spent a lot of time studying the Canadian political system. Years of my undergrad has in large part been spent studying parliament, the judiciary and the influences of parliament, elections and so on and the more I look the more I realize Canada isn’t a liberal democracy or it’s doing an exceedingly poor job at being one, it would be more apt to call Canada a dominant-party democracy or an oligarchy masquerading as a democracy much akin to states like Japan. Like Japan all of our formal institutions and the elites of the country (political and economic) are either dominated by one party or are actively collaborating with said party for financial or political gain. We don’t even need to go much further than the recent scandal where the Liberals aren’t even holding party conventions for new MP’s, in many cases (like in Erskine-Smith’s riding) the party is appointing people to run as MP’s based on a patronage system where loyal staffers are being rewarded with appointments instead of running the democratic way. We also see it in media where the prevalent (and often the only voice) is that of the left where the Liberals are often absolved of criticism unless something really goes wrong such as with the recent Gordie Howe Bridge deal.

Over the last 100 years almost 70 years have been spent under the Liberal Party. Many would claim that’s because the party was centrist and would change it’s campaigns with the time and that may have been true to some degree in the past but I believe a large part of it is also due to institutional backing the Liberal Party in particular has. Go onto any university campus and you’ll seldom see an outspoken conservative especially within any position of authority or power. The chief commissioner of the RCMP is appointed by the federal government. The judges for federal courts are chosen by the government which has been overwhelmingly Liberal-led. Many wealthy families such as the Weston’s have a long history of donating to the Liberal Party.

When all formal institutions and most wealthy families are dominated by one party you have a severe concentration of power and, by means of the influence of one party, you’re not living in a liberal democracy. A lot of people blame voters and that’s fair, but it goes much deeper than just voters and instead it permeates most if not all power and authority structures in society.

What should I do regarding a friend that attends SSPX services?

I have a good friend that I talk and hang out with online regularly that I met through work. We both share a lot of values and he’s always been a very devout Catholic as long as I’ve known him (goes to mass every Sunday, is involved with his community, volunteers in church functions, is a member of the Knight of Columbus, etc.) and I’m moving back home for the rest of the summer where he is. The issue however is that he attends SSPX services in part due to them being the only group in our area that does the latin mass still. I’m a Byzantine Catholic myself but he’s invited me a couple times to go to latin mass in the past which I’ve been interested in if nothing than to experience it however it’s also left me kinda torn now. Officially they’re excommunicated now, am I even able to go to something like this even if I don’t receive communion there? Thank you

Non-Canadian conservatives what are your thoughts on the Canadian government and political climate?

Things have been pretty rough out here for the right in Canada in general as we’ve been governed by the Liberals for over a decade now and in the last hundred years about 70 or some of those years have been under the Liberals. I was wondering how onlookers and non-Canadians view the right in Canada as well ad opinions on what we’re doing right and what we could/should change?

How does contemporary China view the various Chinese dynasties and particularly the Qing dynasty?

Hello! I’ve recently become a lot more interested in reading about Chinese history and in particular the various dynasties of China and how the Chinese state came to be. Part of this included wondering abut how contemporary Chinese view its dynastic empire(s). I know in other socialist states monarchy was kind of looked down upon to varying degrees with the closest comparison I have being the USSR in part because my family is Ukrainian, where the Tsars and the Russian Empire went from being something loathed by the early Bolsheviks to something partially adopted during Stalin’s time where the state tried to make some degree of continuity between the two, which was primarily represented in art such as with Prokofiev and other artists.

I was wondering what the view is from those in China today regarding their Imperial period. Is it something looked at with disdain or is a source of pride or something between the two? Thank you.

How do I solve issues around not having enough food for a growing population?

I’m playing my first game and have a settlement with 280 ish people, I’m playing humans. Things are going well except for the fact that I’m running out of food, or rather I have a stable amount of food but that amount is only good for 2 or so days. The amount in reality is likely more, however there’s a massive bottleneck where I have a lot of grain (currently in winter with 400+ grain) but my settlement can only make bread so fast and it’s being consumed either at the rate it’s being made or faster than that. I have a lot farms (about 15 farms, about 8 for grains and the rest for vegetables) in addition to an onx ranch providing 1 meat and fisheries providing 37 fish). Despite this my food supply is still staying at that 2 day mark.

What can I do to fix this? I’m having an issue with either having no free workers or having workers but really stressing the food supply until harvest. What would you recommend?

Hierarchy is innate to human society

I see a lot of people talk about class consciousness and how we need to move past capitalism because of how evil hierarchy is. It’s fair to criticize these things sure but I think a lot of people are being too idealistic as, over the course of history we can see that hierarchy is innate, it both replicates itself within virtually every human society and it replicates itself within nature through the most rudimentary form of power which is force of arms.

I think this will be a constant throughout all of human society from now to the far future. It sounds crass but there are always people who rule and those are are ruled, so long as you have power and the means to attain it a hierarchy will develop based on who is able to attain and wield said power or authority.

Even within societies that claimed to erase things like class divisions or divisions throughout society like in the French or Russian revolutions or really any socialist revolution the results always end up the same; the revolutionary cadre group overthrows the old government and over time supplants them as the new aristocracy, the level of classes or positions of power did not really change at all and in some cases may have become more rigid.

The same can be said of more general revolutions like the French Revolution, which claimed all were equal citizens. The same revolutionaries that claimed that (the Jacobins and Montagne) then went on to fork their own hierarchy of power with themselves at the top and which reached its zenith during the Terror, at least Napoleon was honest that he was an autocrat, a democratic one but an autocrat nonetheless.

I understand criticizing capitalism, I don’t even like capitalism myself I’m more of a corporatist, however this idea that we can just get rid of all hierarchy and live in a decentralized society like people like Jean-Jacque Rousseau posited is just a falsehood, it’s something that reproduces itself naturally and is found virtually everywhere.

I got discharged from the army, not feeling well

I (24m) just got medically discharged from the army snd am not taking it well. I already had some mental health stuff but am spiraling now. Since I got let go I haven’t left my room, I just feel a lack of will to go or do anything. I was kinda planning on doing this for a while or even the rest of my life in some form or another. It was the first job I didn’t actively hate being in and it’s gone now. Since then my urge to harm myself has spiked, it’s been an issue for months but man those feelings are strong. I’m also being evicted in September so now the clock is ticking to find a place to go, especially since I’m still in university. I don’t really know what to do now or where to go. I don’t think I want to go anywhere. I’ve been in and out of a multiple day smoking binge and a part of me doesn’t want to stop either. It dulls my feelings and sets my mind at ease. I wasn’t even in for that long comparatively, I must be fucking weak.

I dunno if anyone has any similar experiences or not but I would like some advice.

Anyone still play civ V?

Took a long break from this series but am getting back into it now. I used to play a lot of Civ V before moving on to Paradox grand strategy games like EUIV or Crusader Kings. I didn’t play VI as I heard a lot of conflicting stuff on launch and had some gripes with some of the changes (didn’t like the aesthetic, wasn’t a fan of districts taking up parts of the map, etc.) but have come back to Civ as of late. Is there anyone that still plays Civ V and what would you recommend as someone getting back into it either in terms of stuff to donor mods, as I’ve only really ever played vanilla

What camp upgrades do you recommend?

I’ve been trying to play a couple landless games where I’d either be a mercenary or criminal and gain my own kingdom but I usually have issues with money and provisions in the early game.

What upgrades do you guys recommend/ what upgrades to the camp are good in your opinion?

Incels are not the boogeymen social media makes them out to be

I feel like since at least 2019 or 2020 incel became a pejorative equivalent to fascist or bigot, often outshining how many of these incels actually are or the conditions that led that subset of the internet and society to manifest.

The term incel often is used now to refer to some sort of monolithic archetype of someone who violently hates women or is aggressively misogynistic which whilst there are people like that who do exist, I don’t believe is really indicative of how the majority of these people are born is it unique to them really, worse yet I think painting these people with that brush actually has teh opposite effect of shaming them into compliance, instead these people are more likely to feel attacked by those calling them all these things and lambasting them and in turn will entrench themselves within these communities, especially because most incels are not born in vacuums. Much like racists, fascists, communists or what have you, these ideologies and beliefs surface often from lived experience and these beliefs are a worldview from which they often interpret their living situation. Insulting the guy who has never been able to get a date and who is likely very mentally ill or has bad social anxiety is not going to help them, you are instead galvanizing their positions and I know that because I was like that to some degree, where I wasn’t hateful but had issues with social anxiety due to developmental issues and when bringing it up and being invalidated, that didn’t help me and if anything made me lose more hope in bettering my situation.

Ultimately I think people in contemporary society view incels wrongly, for the most part it appears many of them are themselves suffering from some sort of underlying issue and by invalidating that and calling them names we are in turn making the problem worse and pushing them to radicalize further.

This isn’t me generalizing all of one group or the other and I do want to make that clear as well, individuals are individuals which is partially why I wanted to make this post, as it seems many within society are quick to generalize these people all into one state monolith that is unchanging and incapable of reasoning with, which is just not the case.

I hate Canada as someone who lives here

I feel like beyond my early life into my time in early elementary school in the early 2010’s this country has become a fucking awful place to live. Everything is unaffordable to a stifling degree. Economists have said that my generation will likely never own homes which makes sense since our housing is on average the highest in the G7, food is ungodly expensive, I was told you used to be able to live off of a weeks worth of food for like $20 bucks, now $20 bucks often isn’t enough to feed you for a couple days. I’m getting an education only to go into a job market that doesn’t want me, youth unemployment is at a record high and companies are more likely to hire foreign workers as there are programs that allow them to effectively pay them less than domestic workers. In that same regard my hometown is borderline unrecognizable and I and many others around me feel like we’re being culturally and ethnically displaced.

I can’t even get help for my depression. I went to the hospital last month for suicidal thoughts and a couple flashpoints where I was gonna do it and after sitting in triage for 9 hours I was just sent home, I’m being let go from work for that, I don’t know how I will pay for my rent or my education now. The culture here is also full of pompous, self-aggrandizing people or the most passive aggressive, fake nice people you’ll ever meet.

I just feel like as time goes on the more I really hate living here. Ideally I’d be able to move to somewhere in Central Europe or maybe America, though they have a lot of similar issues. That is if I’ll ever have the means to do so. I don’t think the future in this country will be bright and I fully expect things to get worse by most metrics.

What was Canada like in the 90’s and early 2000’s?

I was born in 2002 and I feel like for my entire life that I was politically conscious (2014 onwards) Canada has been an awful place to live be it via un affordability, mass immigration, post-national nonsense and the destruction of national identity, lack of ability to afford homes, etc. and it’s kind of made me resent living here, especially when society feels like it’s completely counter to my views.

This has led me to wonder, was this place actually nice to live in prior? I’ve done numerous reading on the politics and economics but I’m asking more from a qualitative quality of life angle, what was this place like in the 90’s and 2000’s?
