Queso at the vet, listening to us debate whether it’s time to take his troublepuffs off

We’ll be doing it in a couple of weeks, following our vet’s recommendation. He’s already old enough, but his growth is a little behind after fighting off a very severe infection when he was a baby kitten

Remembering Vera on his birthday. This rescue wouldn’t exist without him

Today Vera would have turned 6. Sadly, he passed away from lymphoma shortly after his 5th birthday.

I went back and forth about whether to make this post, since this subreddit is meant to show the positive side of cat rescue, and talking about a cat who is no longer here doesn’t really fit the tone. But I can’t not talk about Vera today.

Vera, who gave our rescue its name. Vera, my first cat, who taught me what wonderful creatures cats are. Vera, who took care of all the kittens and scared cats when they first arrived at the rescue.

I think about him and miss him every day. But during difficult times, it’s his memory and his legacy that give me the strength to keep helping the cats who need it.

Vera, Momi, my little gummy bear. I feel you on my shoulders all the time.
