independent.co.ukMet warns of officer number cuts as row with Sadiq Khan over AI contract explodes
What a cop out response, you need funding for police numbers, not intrusive AI that will definitely be used in discriminatory and oppressive ways by outside influences.
Focus on keeping your officers from harassing women, not on signing a deal with some fascists. The Met wanting to modernise is fine, but do it yknow... not with Satan.

Closures will mostly take place on weekends, but also include weekdays, though this is aimed to take place mainly on school holidays when demand is reduced. Maintenance work is ramping up ahead of a new fleet of trains.
The new trains are scheduled to enter service between December 2026 and June 2027 with walk through carriages, increased frequency and accessibility. Also included will be wider double doors, real-time digital displays for customer information and air conditioning, introduced to the deep tube network for the first time.

bbc.co.ukTravel slip ups, what notable ones have you gone through?
Thankfully the vast majority of my trips are uneventful, safe and great memories, I dont get lost, I dont get cabs to the wrong hotel, usually take everything I need. But things still happen from time to time as they do.
But some memorable ones come to mind....
Rome - Trip went off without a hitch, itnerary planned, shuttle bus from the airport booked, no problem... except there was a problem, I somehow booked said bus from the wrong airport - Fiumcino airport, not Ciampino. Fairly quickly realised and booked the right one but yeah, travel brain I guess.
Budapest - bit of worse one here! (This is solo) After a pub crawl my phone died, which isnt a problem usually as Im always out with a power bank... which is also dead, thankfully not drunk but I now had to find my way back to my hostel on memory and asking kind strangers, some of whom spoke no English. You can imagine how this went, so fast forward maybe about 2 hours with directions and I found a hostel, phew.
Except this was the right hostel brand but wrong individual branch, funny looking back at it now (now at the time 🤣). So i repeated my efforts and did manage to find the right hostel maybe an hour later, the relief... safe and sound but note to self, never again.
Whats the breaking point for heat in London?
So the temperature where it stops being fun and sun, and starts being a bit more 'sweet jesus when will this end'?
Answers will vary by person, but I'm guessing its a sustained 28/29°+ that makes people crack, and of course 30+ is pretty unbearable on buses and the tube.
I'm saying this as it'll be 29°+ from Saturday until Wednesday, happy heatwave all. 😎
Danny Welbeck deserves place in England 2026 World Cup squad - Brighton's Fabian Hurzeler
I'm inclined to agree, great season. Scenes when he scores the winner in the WC final.
Fans of PL winning teams - who would you not mind seeing win the league
Personally I'm a bit fond of Villa, not a fan but I like their vibes, good squad, no oil money and they just work hard.
Brentford & Everton - nothing against either, hard working teams and it'd make for a great story for either to win some major trophies. And to break the traditional crop of PL winning teams since Leicester did it.
And Brighton - just funny to say 'PL winners Brighton'.
