Cordelia Chase gives her passionately off-key rendition of Whitney Houston’s "The Greatest Love of All" on both Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel.

On Buffy: Cordelia sings it during the Sunnydale High talent show in the Season 1 episode “The Puppet Show”.

On Angel: She sings it again in the Season 4 episode “Slouching Toward Bethlehem”. After losing her memories, an amnesiac Cordelia sings it for Lorne so he can read her aura.

Just a fantastic, subtle piece of long-term Buffyverse continuity!

Buffy’s reaction is interesting because there seems to be a tiny beat of genuine confusion before Joyce speaks. You can read it two ways:

Normal sister reaction: Buffy is simply surprised/annoyed to find Dawn in her room, hence the “What are you doing in here?” energy.

Memory alteration doing its thing: for a split second, Buffy’s brain hasn't fully reconciled that Dawn is supposed to be there. Then Joyce speaks, and the altered reality effectively clicks back into place.

Saffron: Look, mum. All you've got to do is eat less and take a bit of exercise.

Edina: Sweetie, if it was that easy, everyone would be doing it.

No cell phone. No security cameras. No GPS. Half the houses look like they’re located 45 minutes from civilization. You’d hear a weird noise outside and your only options were basically go investigate it yourself or yell “HELLO?” into the darkness. 😭
