Compressor not keeping pressure

Compressor not keeping pressure

Howdy, this is my first experience with a wheelbarrow style compressor, I’m the most mechanically inclined in my crew so I’m taking care of it.

We get it started and it seems to run fine but 9/10 times it will build up to about 120 psi and then dump everything at once out of the red valve and not allow itself to build pressure back up.

I’m assuming it’s a bad pressure relief valve? The occasional time it will run normally and keep pressure for a bit, the air gets let off in out the green

Replace the red valve?

Where are the manuals?

Yall I’ve been searching marketplace for months in many different parts of the country and I’ve been able to find less than 5 decent looking manual trucks, let alone with the specific cab/bed configuration I want.

I’m not super picky, I don’t care about the color, I don’t care if it’s dirty I just want it to not be rusty, less than 200k miles and a long bed.

Mostly a rant lol but any advice would be greatly appreciated

Northwest US quiet destinations

Heyo, I'm in charge of planning our honeymoon and I'm looking for some ideas on locations. We live in SE Idaho and we're looking for something super chill, not crazy on the budget. We'll be gone for roughly 6 days in mid-october. Originally looked at northern Oregon coast since her family owns a timeshare out there, but they're booked out. Oregon is still a possibility but we're exploring other options and would love input.

It's important that it's not some huge city that's super busy, would love lots of antique shops for her and cool views/food for me. Thanks!

Clothes shopping

Heyo I’m here in Sitka roofing for a few months, I’m just wondering where the locals go to buy their clothes? I know there’s the couple shops on tourist avenue but I’m curious how yall do it that live here full time?

5.0 Windsor crate engine

Heyo I’m looking at potentially picking up a ‘93 bronco XLT with 270k on the dash. It seems immaculate, rust free and super clean interior.

I really like the 5.0, it was in my first truck and just soldiered on through my young, dumb mechanical mistakes so I wanna keep that but have a plan to swap the motor whenever this one gives up the ghost.

I plan to do the work myself, where are yall sourcing replacement motors at? I’d prefer not to mess with a rebuild at a local shop unless it’s not really economical

How many actually like the bright red interior?

As title says, I think it’s pretty cool honestly. A bit much but I think with just a little modifying it’s pleasant and unique

Flux vs mig for backyard projects

I’m in the process of getting more into fabrication and wanting to diversify my skills, especially building stuff for my truck and work (I’m in construction, not welding at all).

I’ve done a bit of MIG, which was awesome I really enjoyed it but I didn’t like lugging the gas around. I’ve never done flux but it seems like it’d be far superior in simplicity and cost? Nothing I’m doing will structurally critical.

MIG seems a lot more popular with DIY folks, is it a lot stronger? Am I out of the loop and flux core is actually a lot more expensive?

Any machine recommendations would be greatly appreciated as well!

Camping mods

I'm looking for everyone's favorite mods they've done for a camping/road trip build? I'll be hauling the wife and a dirt bike around, a good roof rack for small lumber runs would be exceptionally helpful as well.

I'm looking at GMT400 suburbans, hopefully a 2500 but maybe a 1500 and 96-99. Anything for fuel economy is welcome, I'll see how I feel about the power later. Pics are welcome!

Number not working after switching carriers

Alright I’m far from being very tech savvy and I’ve never been here so idk if this is the right spot to post.

iPhone 14 Pro Max

Recently moved to Alaska for a temp job roofing, and found out the day before I got here that AT&T is the only provider here. I was using mint mobile before, and switched to Cricket.

Ever since I switched(this morning), I haven’t had any service whatsoever. I’ve updated to the latest iOS, restarted many times through the process, switched iMessage and FaceTime off/restart/on again.

I don’t have any cell service and it says I’m not signed into iMessages to send anything to my fiance. I’m just a bit frustrated and lost since every other time I’ve switched carriers, it’s been a straightforward process that took no time at all, I don’t know if my question is even clear or what other information I can provide

6.5 Detroit as a daily

I’m in the process of acquiring a new vehicle, I’m looking at some of the heavy-half GM 2500s from the 90s. I’m pretty much exclusively looking at extended cab(possibly crew) long beds with a manual.

TLDR: Is a 6.5 Detroit a feasible option as a daily driver for someone who will do largely highway miles and occasional towing/camping?

My big question is how feasible it is to daily a 6.5? I had a 99 powerstroke that I LOVED but my life circumstances changed and it was no longer pragmatic for me to keep it with cold starts, expensive fuel, and going to school so not driving much.

In the near future that’ll be changing, as I won’t be in school anymore and will likely have a company vehicle. I know the 6.5 generally doesn’t get a ton of love, they were thrown into vehicles as the economy motor, not intended to be worked hard.

Ideally I’d find a 350 or 454 but if a 6.5 Detroit isn’t something to shy away from it can open up a lot of possibilities, how do they do in terms of fuel economy, cold starts, drivability and reliability/ease of repair and diagnosis?

I intend to take it out camping often and using it for lots of road trips with my fiance/wife. I’ll also use it to pull my truck bed trailer, I’m not worried about the weight there I just prefer the more rigid 2500 frames

Is this bumper actually useful?

For those of you who have bumpers like this that stick out 12”+, is it actually useful? Does it make life easier wrenching under the hood?

I’m not asking about the winch necessarily, that’s been proven to be useful

No service in Alaska

Howdy I’m headed to Alaska as we speak to do a roofing internship for two months

It was pretty last minute, and I found out yesterday afternoon that the only cell provider in Sitka is AT&T.

I’m getting married this fall and we’re in the middle of planning everything, I need to be able to talk with her every day for the wedding planning as well as just talking with her as she’s pretty sad I’m gonna be gone.

My carrier is Mint mobile and I just renewed for a 3 month contract like 3 days ago because I didn’t know about this.

Is there anything I can do with a roaming plan or being able to back out of my contract or anything?

Rough country 4” lift

I’m looking at possibly grabbing a 97 Tahoe that’s got a 4” lift with from rough country. I know they’ve got a hit or miss reputation largely being a miss in a lot of their other lifts and wanna see if anyone has much experience with it?

Have you had/seen early failures from it? Is it an awesome lift that makes every worry go away like a leaf on the breeze?

Lightly built 5.7 vortec

Howdy, I’m looking at a lot of cool suburbans and tahoes that are cheap and have great bones but high mileage, so I know I’d inevitably need a new motor.

As I’m planning ahead on my family’s road trip vehicle, I’d like to put a motor in that’s a bit more peppy. I want something with a bit more power, maybe 75-150 more but still just a direct swap.

Are there any decent crate motors that would fit the bill? I know jegs makes a solid, direct OEM fit but I’d really like something that makes it easier to keep up with traffic and get down the highway

Block heater run off generator?

I’d like to build an off-road/camping/hunting rig out of something like a 7.3 IDI or powerstroke. I’d be out in the cold and know these aren’t exactly the most friendly to cold weather starts.

I’d be doing necessary maintenance and mods (injectors, reduction starter, glow plug system, batteries) but still want to be confident I don’t wake up to head out and magically get stuck in the woods with no way of getting home.

Can these block heaters be run off of an inverter generator? If I put an in-bed camper in then I’d run a generator regardless. I’ve got a pretty nice champion 2000 watt inverter generator that starts easy in the cold

Decent AC?

I’m in the market for something in the GMT400 platform, likely a Tahoe or suburban. I have a 2011 ram 1500 right now and have been pretty unimpressed with the AC. It’s been my first truck that even has working AC, but once it gets above 85 it seems like it’s just not nearly as effective.

How good is the AC in these things? I know they’re old and the insulation in the body is close to nonexistent. I’m trying to drive around in an ice chest tho, I’ve gotten sick of perpetual backsweat and swamp gooch

Any worthwhile upgrades I should look at for my future rig? I’ve been offered a 2003 Escalade, I know it’s a bit different but if anyone has any insight on that I’d love it

Sitegear bags any good?

I’m looking at picking up a set of these sitegear tool bags for a temp position roofing, so I don’t really care if they last past the 2 months. But I can’t seem to find anything online about them, are they any good?

Beginner needing gear advice

I scored a solid temp roofing gig up in Sitka Alaska, I’ve never done roofing before and I’m just trying to figure out what sorta stuff I should bring with.

I’m assuming a solid pair of sneakers instead of boots, any recommendations on brand/model?

Any pants in particular stand out for durability/comfort?

How important will sun protection be? Typically I’d assume very, but being in Sitka I’d assume it’s much more overcast and rainy than most places

Any other advice would be greatly appreciated!

350 tbi vs 350 vortec

I’m currently in the market for a suburban 1500 and I’m seeing a pretty healthy mix of clean tbi and vortec.

I’m mostly wondering what the differences are between the two motors and if it’s worth it going for one or the other, knee jerk is that I want the vortec for the power, efficiency and being newer so slightly fewer age-related issues.

Are there any significant differences between 90-95 suburbans and 96-99? I like the earlier interior better but I’d prefer whichever one has more parts available/better reliability.
