While my music taste consists mostly of experimental and weird sounding music, I have become increasingly frustrated by how my tastes are not very racially diverse (which mostly consists of white people, I want to support more musicians of color). So What are some of your favorite experimental / not conventional sounding musicians of color you’d recommend?

For reference these are some experimental musicians/bands I like:
- Oingo Boingo
- Primus
- The Caretaker
- Talking heads
- Jack Stauber
- DVA (Especially their older albums and OSTs)
- Memo Boy
- Neil Cicerega (I’m mostly a fan of his lyrics, but he’s a great instrumentalist too)
- Femtanyl
- Snõõper / Prison Affair (different musicians but both fall under “egg punk”)
- Pleasentries (also a fan if his lyrics)

Bonus points if they’re also queer/LGBTQ+ or neurodivergent.

For example: I personally associate SAD by Lemon Demon with The Christmas toons (especially Rudie for some reason), The ocean by Lemon Demon with Finn, and Lacy by Olivia Rodrigo with Bassie (this one probably most of all, I feel like Lacy portrays the proper sense of jealously and resentment that Bassie has for Cocoa but also the guilt that comes with that obsessive jealousy rather than just the idea of outright hating her)

I remember There was a comic / comic dub posted on YouTube within the past 6 ish years where a cashier is thinking about engaging in small talk with customers because it’s important for service to be friendly or whatever. The comic starts off as pretty normal and lighthearted in its art style and tone up until the customer and the cashier start talking about moon phases or something.

The tone and changes drastically as the once simple and slice of lifey style of the comic gets darker and more red as the two characters become more verbose and cultish with their remarks about the moon. One line I kind of remember was something like “The waning __?__ and the Waxing __?__” when they’re talking about the moon. I think the first blank was something normal and the second word / respective panel marked the transition of the darkening of the rest of the comic, the background got darker and the moon turned red and even gained an eye in the middle I think.

One last thing I wanted to say about this is that I’m fairly certain this was more satire than anything. This didn’t have the tone of actual cult propaganda. It was more of a comic portraying the pain of forcing yourself to create small talk Through edgy dramatization.

A few clarifying elements:
- The comic was in dominantly black and white in the first half, maybe some pastels but not for the backgrounds. It’s also got a pretty cutesy/cartoony comic art style you could expect more in the 2020s
- I do not remember the ending for the life of me, the beginning of the shift in tone is the kart part that I already only remember vaguely
- I Remember nothing about the voices, just that each character was given a voice
- Not animated. Could’ve been a short film but the media was only portrayed In panels

I’ll try to rephrase any details if necessary but this is about all I Remember I think

My personal favorites are “Ben Drowned”, “Wii Deleted You” and “A One Are You?”, I feel like they rely on factors outside their fandom to make the story actually scary while also relying on the material itself for certain structural elements (for example: how in ben drowned the already existing text in Majora’s Mask is used to communicate with the player/protagonist.)

Only you can decide when you feel comfortable to state your gender identity, and you don’t even need to have it figured out. Just know you are loved, valid, and no matter what, Deserve to live. There’s a scene at the end of the story “The Monkey Paw” where the Main character wishes for their son to come back, but while they never show the son in question an unknown force bangs outside the door. The MC wishes for the force to go away and while everyone is safe, it is never explained what was behind the door. It’s That kind of suspenseful horror, where the scariest part isn’t actual horror but rather its potential, is what I’m looking for. Horror movies do this too, my favorite example of which being birdbox with the eldritch horror that causes people to go mad and commit suicide but is never shown. The king in yellow I’ve also heard as an example but I will admit I haven’t read that one yet. I think It’s VERY easy to botch the idea of “the unknown” being an antagonist of a horror story, let alone being actually scary. You have to make it out to be a genuine, horrifying threat that the viewer can actually interpret. If anyone has any good creepypastas that portray this idea well I’d love to hear it!
