[E] Just a noob here — need to learn the basics of Statistics [E]

Hi everyone,

I'm currently doing a course where I have five major topics to cover, but I'm starting with these two:

  1. Comparison of means between two food-diet groups using a t-test
  2. Comparison of means among more than two food-diet groups using ANOVA

The remaining topics are:

  1. Post-hoc statistical analysis for identifying significant group differences
  2. Development of a General Linear Model (GLM) in Linear Regression
  3. Understanding Adjusted Sum of Squares and Sequential Sum of Squares in Linear Regression

My background is in biology, so I'm pretty new to statistics. I know how to run basic analyses in Minitab and SPSS, but my problem is that I don't really understand what is happening behind the numbers.

I want to properly understand the basics first — things like mean, median, variance, standard deviation, standard error, distributions, hypothesis testing, p-values, confidence intervals, etc. — and then build up to t-tests, ANOVA, post-hoc tests, and regression.

This is not really a theory-heavy course, so I'm expected to understand and interpret the statistical output rather than just calculate everything manually. But I don't want to blindly click buttons in SPSS/Minitab without understanding what the results actually mean.

Could anyone recommend a good beginner-friendly statistics textbook, notes, or learning resource that would help me build these fundamentals from scratch and eventually reach the topics above?

My professor isn't particularly helpful with recommending resources, and my seniors are currently busy with their own work, so I'm trying to find a good starting point myself.

Thanks in advance to anyone who takes the time to point me in the right direction! 🙏

Used 100% of my Amazon ICICI + Slice limits and my CIBIL barely moved 😭

I have 5 cards currently:

- Amazon Pay ICICI — ₹1L (shared limit with Coral)

- Slice — ₹20K

- Roar — ₹7K

- SBM — ₹45K

- SBI Elite — ₹1L

Recently, I ended up using 100% of the limits on both my Amazon Pay ICICI and Slice cards. 💀

My overall credit utilization was around 45%, and I was honestly scared that my CIBIL score was going to get absolutely nuked.

But after the update, my CIBIL only dropped by 2 points (From 774 to 772).

So now I'm confused — does credit utilization really have that huge an impact on CIBIL, or does the overall utilization matter more than individual card utilization?

Obviously, I'm going to bring the utilization back down, but I'm curious about how heavily CIBIL actually weighs this.

Anyone here experienced something similar?

Caught this tiny house mouse on a glue trap this morning.

Found this little guy on one of our glue traps this morning.

I know mice are pests and I definitely don't want them inside the house, but it's surprisingly hard not to feel bad when you see one up close. Those tiny ears and eyes make it look a lot less like a "pest" and more like a scared little animal.

I'm planning to remove it from the glue trap as humanely as possible and release it well away from the house.

Any tips on how to safely get him off the glue trap without injuring him? I've heard cooking oil can help dissolve the adhesive, but I'd appreciate advice from anyone who's done this before.

Just wanted to share the little troublemaker before he gets a second chance. 🐭

Found my mom feeding kittens. My childhood was a scam. 💀

In all my childhood, my mom never let us have pets.....especially cats.

I came home for a long holiday and noticed there was no ghee. I asked my mom what happened...

Instead of answering, she introduced me to two tiny kittens. (Which visits our house randomly)

Turns out they've been happily gulping down the milk fat she'd been saving all these months.

I jokingly asked, "What about my ghee?"

She looked at me and said, "Go buy your own ghee."

...and then immediately went back to feeding the kittens. 🤧

Am I being disowned? 🙂‍↕️

Amazon wants me to return a defective microSD card that I can't erase because it's bricked. I'm stuck between brands and amaz

Hi everyone,

I'm honestly exhausted and would really appreciate some advice.

I purchased a Samsung EVO Plus 1 TB microSD card from Amazon India along with my new Galaxy Tab S11. Ironically, I spent weeks worrying that something might be wrong with the tablet, but the Tab is absolutely perfect. The problem turned out to be the microSD card.

On the day it was delivered, while transferring around 5 GB of my personal photos, the card suddenly started failing.

It first became permanently read-only:

Couldn't write new files.

Couldn't delete files.

Couldn't format.

Windows repeatedly reported "The disk is write protected."

I spent hours troubleshooting:

DiskPart

CMD

Windows formatting

Disk Management

Different devices (Galaxy Tab S11, Windows PC, and a digital camera)

Nothing worked.

Then the situation became even worse.

The card started randomly disconnecting and reconnecting while in use. My Tab S11 kept showing notifications saying "SD card removed" followed by "SD card inserted."

Now the card is barely detected at all and appears to have suffered a complete hardware failure.

I also noticed a faint black discoloration on part of the gold contacts, although I'm not sure if that's related.

The biggest issue is that the card still contains my personal photos, and because it became permanently read-only before failing completely, I have absolutely no way to securely erase my data.

Amazon is asking me to return the defective card, while at the same time advising customers not to return devices or storage containing personal data.

I even travelled around 40 km to my nearest Samsung Authorized Service Centre. They told me that because the product is still within the retailer's initial period, they cannot process it under warranty and that I need to resolve it through Amazon.

Over the last two days, I've spent around six hours with Amazon Customer Service. I've been transferred between multiple agents, explained the entire issue repeatedly, and still haven't received a practical solution.

I also emailed Amazon's Grievance Team, attaching a detailed explanation and video evidence of the failure. It's now been two days, and I still haven't received a response.

On top of that, I requested written confirmation regarding who would be responsible if my personal data were accessed, leaked, or misused after returning a storage device that I physically cannot erase. I haven't received any response to that request either.

Looking back, I almost wish I'd paid the extra ₹500 and bought the card from my local Samsung store. This was actually my first time buying storage online. I only ordered it with my Tab S11 because I thought getting both together from an authorized seller would be convenient.

At this point, I genuinely feel stuck between Amazon and Samsung:

Amazon asks me to return the card.

Samsung directs me back to Amazon because it's still within the retailer's period.

My personal data is trapped on a defective storage device that I physically cannot erase.

I'm not trying to abuse the system or avoid a legitimate return. I simply want a fair solution for a product that appears to have suffered a hardware failure on the very first day of normal use.

Has anyone experienced something similar?

How was it resolved?

Did Amazon or Samsung eventually help?

Has anyone had a storage device fail in read-only mode with personal data trapped on it?

If this continues without a practical resolution, would filing a consumer complaint be a reasonable next step, or is there another escalation path I should try first?

I'd really appreciate any advice or experiences. Thank you.

Master has given Dobby a Galaxy Tab S11. Dobby is free! 🧦✨

Now Dobby seeks the wisdom of the Galaxy Tab elders.....

What are the must haves for a new Tab S11 owner?

I'm looking for recommendations on:

- The best screen protector (tempered glass vs matte/paper-like)

- A good protective case (with or without an S Pen holder)

- Must-have apps

- One UI settings to change first (and some hidden features of one ui)

- S Pen tips and hidden features

- Accessories that are actually worth buying

Basically, if you were setting up a brand-new Tab S11 today, what would you buy and what would you avoid?

Help this newly freed Dobby make the right choices. 🧦📱✨

My lame ass filled a full tank of E20 just before parking the car for months 🤡

Took my Alto K10 on a \~700 km solo trip and decided to do a proper tank-to-tank mileage test.

Filled it to the brim before the trip and topped it up again after returning.

Mileage? 16 km/L.

The previous time I did the exact same test, she returned 20 km/L.

Before anyone blames my right foot:

\- AC ON both times.

\- Cruising between 80–100 km/h.

\- Same driving style.

The only major difference I can think of is E20 fuel.

Can E20 alone cause such a noticeable drop, or is something else going on?

Now here's where my lame ass deserves an award... 🤡

After getting home, I happily filled the tank to the brim again... only to remember that the car is going to sit unused for the next few months.

So now I've got a full tank of E20 just chilling in the fuel tank.

Am I overthinking this, or should I be worried about ethanol sitting in the tank for that long?

Would love to hear from fellow car owners or anyone who's been through the E20 era. 😭

Why is every Samsung product I order on Amazon India sold by Clicktech Retail? Is Clicktech reliable?

Hi everyone,

I've noticed something interesting over the past year.

Last year, I ordered a Samsung phone from the official Samsung Store on Amazon India, and the seller was Clicktech Retail Private Ltd. Unfortunately, the order was never delivered and was eventually cancelled due to a logistics issue.

Now, I've just ordered the new Galaxy Tab S11 (128 GB) from the official Samsung Store on Amazon, and once again the seller is Clicktech Retail Private Ltd.

It made me curious:

  • Is Clicktech Samsung's primary/official seller on Amazon India?
  • Has anyone here bought Samsung phones, tablets, watches, or accessories from Clicktech?
  • Were the products genuine and covered by Samsung warranty?
  • How was the packaging and after-sales experience?
  • Have you faced any issues with deliveries or replacements?

My Tab S11 and Samsung EVO Plus 1 TB microSD are both sold by Clicktech, so I'm just looking for some reassurance from people who've purchased from them before.

Would love to hear your experiences. Thanks!

Galaxy Tab S11: 128 GB + 1 TB microSD for ₹85k or 512 GB for ₹1.1L?

I'm planning to buy the Galaxy Tab S11 and I'm stuck between these two options:

Option 1

  • Galaxy Tab S11 128 GB
  • Samsung EVO 1 TB microSD
  • Total cost: ~₹85,000

Option 2

  • Galaxy Tab S11 512 GB
  • Total cost: ~₹1,10,000

So the price difference is around ₹25,000.

My usage is mostly:

  • Samsung Notes (lots of handwritten notes)
  • Reading and annotating PDFs/research papers
  • Microsoft 365
  • Web browsing
  • YouTube
  • Multitasking
  • Storing a large library of research papers, lecture videos, and media

I don't edit videos professionally or play many games on the tablet.

I know apps generally perform best on internal storage, while media and documents can live on the microSD card.

If you were in my position, would you save ₹25k and go with the 128 GB + 1 TB microSD setup, or is the 512 GB model worth the extra money for long-term use?

I'd especially appreciate feedback from anyone who has used a Galaxy Tab extensively with a microSD card.

Total beginner looking to upgrade POCO F4 GT (EUXM) to Xiaomi.eu for multitasking – Need a foolproof guide for HyperOS 2!

Hi everyone,

I am planning to transition my POCO F4 GT (ingres) away from the stock software to a custom ROM. I’ve stopped gaming completely, and I am purely looking for a reliable, smooth daily driver that can handle heavy multitasking and better background RAM management.

Based on my specs, my device is currently running:

* Device: POCO F4 GT (Global Hardware / 12GB RAM / 256GB Storage)

* Current OS: Official EEA/European Stock ROM (HyperOS 2.0.3.0.ULJEUXM)

* Android Version: 14

I’ve decided to go with the Xiaomi.eu Stable ROM because it uses the optimized China ROM base for better performance but keeps Google Play services and notifications clean for daily productivity.

⚠️ Please Note: I am completely new to this and have minimal knowledge about unlocking, flashing, or custom recoveries. I really want to avoid making mistakes and hard-bricking my phone.

Before I start, could someone provide a beginner-friendly breakdown or point me toward a foolproof guide? Here are my main questions:

  1. The Core Rules: What are the absolute "golden rules" or warnings I must keep in mind to avoid bricking my phone? (I heard locking the bootloader by accident is dangerous).

  2. Bootloader Unlocking on HyperOS 2: Since I am already on official HyperOS 2.0.3.0, I know the rules are very strict. What is the easiest, step-by-step way for a beginner to get official unlock permission?

  3. Flashing Steps: What is the safest way to actually install the Xiaomi.eu ROM for someone with zero experience? Do I use a custom recovery like TWRP, or is there a simple Fastboot script I can run from a PC?

  4. Banking Apps: Will my financial/banking apps work out of the box on Xiaomi.eu, or will a beginner find it too complicated to get them running?

Any patience, simplified checklists, or direct links to the correct stable ingres build files would be an absolute lifesaver. Thank you so much!

Finally got my hands on a Predator and she's a certified baddie 🔥

After weeks of researching, comparing specs, watching reviews, and questioning my broskie's financial decisions, she finally arrived.

The unboxing experience alone felt like I was opening some classified military equipment instead of a laptop.

The Predator branding, the packaging, the foam inserts... everything is unnecessarily dramatic and I absolutely love it.

Currently he is in the honeymoon phase where:

- Every boot feels faster than light.

- Every fan sound feels powerful.

- Every RGB light adds +10 FPS.

- Every fingerprint on the lid causes emotional damage.

Now excuse me while I spend the next 3 hours updating drivers, installing software, changing wallpapers, and benchmarking things I'll never benchmark again.

She's not a laptop.

She's a baddie. 😌✨

My broskie is about to disappear for the next few weeks and emerge only to say:

"Bro, look at my Cinebench score."

For Predator owners:

Was buying a Predator a good decision in the long run?

How has your experience been after months or years of ownership?

Any common issues, tips, or things to watch out for?

The most unreliable network became the most reliable one when we actually needed it

Recently, I was in Ooty with my family.

We had downloaded offline maps beforehand, which turned out to be a good decision because both Airtel and Jio completely lost signal in the area we were exploring.

The problem was that my father suddenly needed to make an urgent business call.

We tried all our phones, switching between networks and hoping one would catch a signal. Nothing worked.

Then I noticed that my BSNL SIM, which I barely use and honestly never even consider using, somehow had 3 bars of signal.

We tried making the call through BSNL and, surprisingly, it went through without any issues.

After that, we even used the BSNL data connection to stream Spotify while having a small picnic.

The whole experience felt ironic. The SIM that spends 99% of its life doing nothing ended up saving the day when every other network failed.

It made me wonder: does BSNL have one of the worst branding/marketing problems in India?

Because whenever people discuss telecom networks, BSNL is usually the butt of the joke. But in some remote places, it seems to be the only thing still standing.

Has anyone else had a "BSNL saved the day" moment?

Anything else I should do before flying to Thailand?

Title: Anything else I should do before flying to Thailand?

Hi everyone,

I'll be flying to Thailand soon and wanted to check if I've missed anything important.

So far I have:

- TDAC completed

- Laptop packed

- One 30 L backpack

- One cabin bag

- Passport ready

- Flight tickets

- Accommodation documents

- Travel-related documents printed and saved digitally

This is my first international trip, so I'm trying not to forget anything obvious.

For those who have recently travelled to Thailand:

- What should I do before leaving India?

- Any must-have apps, SIM/eSIM recommendations, or currency tips?

- Anything that immigration officers commonly ask for?

- Any mistakes first-time travelers usually make?

Would appreciate any last-minute advice or things you wish you had known before your trip.

Thanks!

Reasons not to get get pop club yes Bank cc

So I currently use the slice card mostly for UPI payments and honestly it has been pretty smooth for me. Recently I got a call saying my POP x Yes Bank RuPay credit card is now pre-approved (I had apparently applied long back and forgot about it 💀).

The sales guy was hyping it like crazy saying it’s the best UPI credit card in the market right now and better than every other RuPay CC out there.

Now I’m confused because I already have:

ICICI Bank Coral RuPay CC

Roar card

Slice card (my main UPI card)

From my usage, Slice honestly feels the smoothest for UPI. Payments rarely fail, UI is clean, and overall experience has been solid. But I keep seeing people online saying other RuPay cards give better rewards/cashback.

So now I’m wondering:

Is Slice actually considered one of the best UPI credit cards right now?

Or is it just good UX making me biased?

Is POP Club x Yes Bank actually worth taking?

Which UPI CC are you all using as your primary daily driver and why?

Would love some real-world opinions instead of sales-call marketing 😭

Screws getting lost randomly

I have an asus a15 rtx 4070 and suddenly today I found a small black colour falling on my shoes....

Thought I broke a part near the hinge and frantically started searching where it broke....... Then I found a screw inside my shoe and suddenly realised and saw the back panel and 3 screws (1 12mm and 2 8mm) were missing and the one i found was a 8mm screw so i screwed it back on its middle position.....

Age 1yr and never opened it for any upgrades.......

Y this happened.... It is because of my gaming heat and the vibration of the fan....

I regularly take my lap to clg daily and never leave her lonely..... Even when I travel internationally or between places that are too long where I have to travel 2 days or more by train ....

Y this happens and nobody told me about this in my group of laptop gamers and when I asked them they never knew something like this happens (they never take their lap anywhere its basically a desktop for them)

Did I do something wrong in taking care of her 🥺
