URGENT HELP

Hi! My mom's friend's colleague is visiting the US and I was thinking of asking him to bring me an iPhone 17 Pro (256GB). I've never bought a phone from abroad before, so I have no idea how any of this works.

As of now, I only know he'll definitely be in New York and maybe other places. He leaves on August 8, so if there are any offers around then, that'd be great to know.

A few questions:

  • What's the current price for the 256GB model?
  • Is it better to order it online for pickup/delivery or just buy it from an Apple Store or another retailer? Where's the cheapest place to buy it?
  • How do i claim back the taxes/VAT refund?
  • Are there any discounts/offers around early August?
  • How does payment usually work if someone else is buying it for you?
  • Is there anything important I should tell him before he buys it ?

If there's anything else that's important that I haven't thought of, please let me know. I'd really appreciate any advice since this is my first time doing something like this. Thanks!

Do I take a gap year and apply abroad instead of joining a tier 3/4 college in India for B.Tech CS?

I honestly feel completely lost right now and could really use some advice.

I wanted to do a BTech in CSE, but my options in India are pretty bad. I'm about to join my last backup (tier 3/4) college in a couple of days, and I can't stop wondering if I'm making a mistake that'll affect my future.

my_qualifications

  • Class 10: 94.2% (Best 5), 93% overall
  • Class 12 (CBSE PCM): 79.2%
    • Physics: 61
    • Chemistry: 85
    • Maths: 68

I had always planned on doing my master's abroad because my parents felt a bachelor's would be too expensive, but now I'm wondering if I should instead take a gap year and apply for Fall 2027 bachelor's admissions.

The biggest issue is money. I'd most likely need an education loan, but I really don't want to end up with massive debt. Ideally I'd like to keep the total cost manageable (around ₹10–15 lakh/year if possible). I'm okay with working part-time during college and eventually freelancing once I have enough skills.

I'm open to countries outside the US/UK as long as they have good education, decent career opportunities in tech, a reasonable Indian community, and aren't known for heavy racism. English speaking countries are my preference though.

As for extracurriculars, I don't think I have an exceptional profile:

  • Student council
  • Won abacus competitions
  • District-level volleyball
  • District-level tennis volleyball

I know I'd also have to prepare for IELTS (and any other required tests).

My biggest fear is that taking a gap year could completely backfire. If I don't get into a good university, don't receive enough financial aid, or face visa issues, I'd end up with no college this year and no improvement in my JEE/Indian admissions either. That's what scares me the most.

So I wanted to ask:

  1. Is taking a gap year for Fall 2027 a reasonable decision in my situation?
  2. Which countries or universities should I realistically be looking at with my profile and budget?
  3. Can someone with 79.2% in Class 12 still get meaningful merit scholarships?
  4. If you were in my position, would you join the Indian college and plan for a master's abroad, or take the risk and apply for a bachelor's abroad?

I'd really appreciate any honest advice, especially from people who've been in a similar situation or know anything about how admissions work.

Edit: I'm based in New Delhi

how difficult is it to get admission?

for the CSAI course specifically, what all would i need to get admission? im out of options and this feels like a good option but will only try if theres a chance.

i have 94.2 in 10th (best 5) and 93 (overall), 79.2 in 12thbut i'll be givign improvement exam. i didnt give an SAT and my jee scores are BAD (65.7%ile) .
as for extracurriculars i lowk have nothing ive won quite a few trophies in abacus but that was when i was a kid and then ive played and won golds/silvers in district level volleyball and tennis volleyball comps. was in the student council in 9th/10th but then dropped that school to prepare for jee via dummy (ik dont ask) and as for academic ecs dont really have anyth ig
