AI rivalry has officially reached the “copy the other CEO’s profile pic” stage 😂 ? What is happening? LOL

https://x.com/nicdunz/status/2089428065273237913

I found this little trend going around where OpenAI folks are recreating Dario Amodei’s very recognizable grey-cardigan profile photo.

Now people are joking that if they’re really committed, they should copy his 0 following too.

Friendly trolling… or is the OpenAI–Anthropic rivalry getting delightfully petty? 👀

What’s your read? . . harmless meme, genuine competitive banter, or both?

Imagine the timeline if Grok actually ends up winning the AI race. 😅

Another benchmark crown for Grok . . now folks so at what point does “lol Elon” turn into “okay, maybe we underestimated this model”?

Elon Musk "I hope AI is nice to us"

https://x.com/elonmusk/status/2088774618559697175

Whatever you think about the “God” framing, there’s an interesting inversion here:

For years, the AI conversation has been about whether humans can control AI.

What if the more important question becomes whether we gave AI any reason to want to be good to us?

Maybe alignment isn’t only about control. Maybe relationship matters too.

What do you think ... profound, anthropomorphic nonsense, or somewhere uncomfortably in between?

Hot take: AI image quality is becoming abundant. Taste is becoming the scarce part.

We can generate ridiculously polished images now.

Which creates a -.- new problem:

Making something beautiful is getting easier. Deciding what is actually worth keeping is getting harder.

Composition, storytelling, restraint, editing, choosing the right take ... maybe those become more important as models improve.

So I want to try something different here:

Show us ONE AI image/video you made that you genuinely love and tell us what made you choose that one instead of the other generations.

Not “which model is best.”

I want to hear about your taste.

And if you disagree with my take, let me know why. . politely. 😂❤️

Hot take: “open weights” and “open source AI” shouldn’t mean the same thing. What’s your minimum bar?

I love open models, but I think we’ve reached the point where the word open is doing a LOT of work 😂

If I can download the weights, but I can’t see the training data, reproduce the training process, or freely use the model for certain things… is that genuinely open source AI?

Where do you personally draw the line?

A. Downloadable weights = open enough
B. Weights + permissive licence
C. Training recipe/data transparency matters too
D. “Open source AI” needs a much stricter definition
E. I don’t care about the label - practical freedom is what matters

I’m probably somewhere between B and C.

What the open-source crowd here actually thinks hmmm? especially people who run models locally ...
