Once settled in her kennel, she quietly lies on her blanket, hoping for a place where she can finally feel safe.

At 9 years old, Prince should be spending his days on a cozy bed, enjoying leisurely walks and soaking up love—not sitting in a shelter on the euthanasia list.
Prince (#A2087209) is a Boxer mix with the heart of a puppy. Every time someone approaches his kennel, his whole body wiggles with excitement. He bounces with joy, eagerly waits to be leashed, and happily heads outside for his walks. Volunteers describe him as calm, affectionate, and always thrilled to spend time with people.
Despite being re-aged to approximately 9 years old, Prince still has plenty of pep in his step. He walks nicely on a semi-loose leash and would make an incredibly loyal companion for anyone looking for a sweet, loving best friend.
Prince is currently being treated for a kennel cough (CIRD), a common and treatable shelter illness, and is heartworm negative.

Today, while volunteering at the shelter, I was asked to spend some time with a young puppy named Kingston and help share his story.

What I learned was heartbreaking.

Kingston is only six months old, yet he has already been returned to the shelter three times.

He first arrived as a stray at just four months old. Each time he was adopted, he was eventually brought back. The most common reason?

"He has too much energy."

But Kingston isn't "too much."

He's a puppy.

Puppies are naturally energetic. They need patience, guidance, training, and a family willing to help them grow.

I spent time walking Kingston today, and throughout our visit he was nothing but sweet, affectionate, and excited to be around people.

At one point, he picked up a toy and proudly carried it for the entire walk. It was as if it had become his greatest treasure.

Despite everything he's already experienced in such a short life, Kingston still greets the world with a wagging tail, a toy in his mouth, and hope that someone will finally choose him—and keep that promise forever.

If you think you could be that person, Kingston is waiting.

7/12/2026: Creek was relaxed, wiggly, with an open mouth, wagging tail, and kept walking in front of the handler. He appeared to favor one leg due to a possible injury but continued walking. He repeatedly moved in front of the handler, nearly causing trips, and treats did not help redirect him.

7/17/2026: Creek greeted the handler at his kennel door with a relaxed body, high wagging tail, and soft open mouth. Once leashed, he maintained a loose leash while jumping around but became mouthy toward the leash.

7/19/2026: Approaching the kennel, Creek stood at the front of the gate with a wiggly, forward body, ears up, open-mouth smile, fast wagging tail, and dilated eyes. Once leashed, he constantly circled around the handler's legs. Treats did little to redirect him as he remained jumpy and mouthy with the leash at times. He was highly aroused on leash and showed no signs of calming down to and from the outdoor runs.

Bob is recovering from bite wounds on the left side of his muzzle and is also being treated for demodex (demodectic mange). He will need continued veterinary care to monitor his healing, manage his skin condition, and ensure he continues on the path to recovery.

Despite his rough start, Bob is just a young puppy with a bright future ahead of him. With a safe, stable environment and appropriate medical care, he has an excellent chance to heal and grow into a happy, healthy companion.

patient got beat up and cut in several locations around the neck and the left side of the face by his littermates - recommend placing them in individual cages

the left side of the face is extremely swollen and the face, neck/throatlatch are full of bite wounds

trimmed nails and gave medicated bath to aid with cleanup and wound therapy

patient is already on antibiotics for ski infection

gave 1/2 cc Benadryl to aid with swelling and we will start carprofen - will keep in treatment room overnight to be re-evaluated in morning

07/20:

BAR. Eating well. The right side of the muzzle is very swollen with edema present. Will discontinue the cefpo since placing on clindamycin now.

TX: Carprofen (50mg/ml) .6cc SQ

TX: Clindamycin (150mg/ml) .5cc SQ

RX: Carprofen 75mg 1/2T SID 4 days

RX: Clindamycin 150mg 1/2T BID 10 days
