8-6 standard working hours

This is my first grad job as a compliance analyst in a trading firm and they put down my standard working hours on the contract as 8 am to 6 pm. The manager in the interview said the hours are long and 6 pm is minimal leaving time but that coupled with an 8 am start is a wow.

Is this normal? I’ve heard of 8-5 or 9-6 but not 8-6. Has anyone experienced something similar. It’s 5 days in office (not remote) and they do not offer meals or transport on company’s expenses. The pay is good for a graduate role but not as good as traders or first line roles ofc

Does a legal career makes a girl intimidating?

My friend moved to Dubai when we were in class 8. She went to an elite international school and moved at 18 to start her law school in the UK, eventually ended up finding a job in corporate law there and now she’s 22. She lives in the UK alone, has no family there.

Her grandmother from dad’s side is living in Pakistan and have traditional values. She keeps telling her that because she’s a lawyer, boys families are intimidated. If she was a medical student or stayed at home, they would have viewed her as someone nurturing and close to family values. Is this actually true?

Why are market makers not respected in the industry?

Why are companies such as dare, onyx, and Jane street so frowned upon by other industry professionals?

Are exit opportunities bad for only traders or also back office staff? Eg, business analyst, legal, compliance analysts etc.

Recruiter said an offer is coming but no follow up

A week after the final interview I received a message from the external recruiter saying she thinks an offer is coming and the company requested my right to work documents. She congratulated me and said she’ll call me soon once she has details of the salary etc. The whole day passed by but I received no call from her, is this normal?

What are the signs you did not pass an interview

I had a panel interview which lasted 50 mins but was scheduled for an hour. The manager was really testing and probing me on questions like how do I know you won’t leave for another role etc. I asked him about what qualities would make someone successful in this role and he said that’s the question I asked you at the start so you tell me.

He was very direct and at the end said we are also looking at other candidates and recruiter will come back with feedback next week. I feel like I did not get it, is this experience common?

Why do some men maintain casual contact with their ex?

My partner and I broke up over a month ago after I asked for consistency and instead of giving a straight answer on where he stands he ghosted me. I’m 22F and he is 24M.

Then after 5 days he starts sending insta reels and maintained friendly contact without flirting. It’s been over a month and he sends me memes every now and then but there has been no closure or asked how I’ve been. It’s pretty clear that it has ended and he is dating around but why is he sending me memes and still using nicknames? Is this normal?

What does this guy want

He texts everyday, very sporadic, never calls and one date in a span of a month. Sends me couples and marriage and baby reels but the conversation stays surface level. Thoughts??

What should I say when submitting my work sheet?

I have been working for a small company for a month. My contract says I will be paid a fixed weekly fee (a defined sum), paid monthly in arrears, and put on payroll. However, I haven’t actually been put on payroll and was asked to invoice instead.

The director/hr revealed last week that the weekly fee is a set amount based on a certain number of hours per week, with a monthly hours figure being used for the calculation. This was not told to me before and I only got 30 hrs of work per month. I told her that I didn’t sign the contract on an hourly arrangement but a salary arrangement. She then asked me to complete 50 more hrs this week as they will consolidate my hours and that is doable. Despite this, I did not receive enough work to reach this target.

I’ve completed everything assigned to me and repeatedly asked the person responsible for allocating work for additional hours, but she ignored my emails. I also emailed the director explaining this before month-end and haven’t received a response.

I’m now submitting my monthly work log. Should I simply submit it neutrally, or should I add something like “Please pay me according to the contract”?

Will they change my start date after I signed the contract?

I’m no longer able to start on my current start date due to a family emergency. It is a 3 months fixed term contract and want to push it by 3 weeks. The role is administrative and contract clean up so not deadline driven.

I got the offer 3 days ago and signed all the contracts. The manager did want someone ASAP but she did really like me during the interviews

Are they likely to change it or rescind my offer?
