Things I’ve learned as a first time mom

FTMs, please do your research, ask your doctor questions, and don’t be afraid to learn as you go. Every baby is different, but these are some things I learned along the way:
• Babies don’t need to be overly swaddled or layered. Keep them comfortable and avoid overheating.
• No food or water before 6 months unless your pediatrician advises otherwise.
• Hiccups, sneezing and occasional coughing can be normal, but always check with your doctor if something seems unusual.
• Breast milk/ Formula milk is still a main source of nutrition up to 1 year, even after starting solids at 6 months.
• Don’t self-medicate your baby without your pediatrician’s advice.
• Babies don’t need tons of products. Keep their skincare routine simple.
• Let babies explore their hands, feet and body—it’s part of normal development.
• Keep those little neck, armpit and skin folds clean and dry.
• Vitamin D may be recommended for breastfed babies—ask your pediatrician about supplementation.
• Avoid added sugar and salt during the first year.
• Skip unnecessary products like kajal, makeup and strong fragrances.
• Don’t compare your baby’s milestones with other babies. Every baby has their own timeline. 🤍
• And please support pregnant and postpartum moms around you. Sometimes they don’t need advice—they just need someone to cook, clean, bring them food, or simply listen.
Motherhood is a learning process. You don’t have to know everything from day one.

What is one thing you learned as a first-time mom that you wish you had known earlier?

How many pregnancy tests did you take?

I took one positive test and immediately believed it.

Pregnancy changes you in ways you don’t expect

Pregnancy isn’t just a countdown.
It’s a quiet transformation…
you feel before anyone else sees.

In the beginning,
it’s just you…
tired, emotional,
learning to slow down.

Taking vitamins.
Drinking more water.
Resting in ways you never used to.

Then suddenly—
you see them on a screen.

Tiny features.
A heartbeat.
A moment that makes everything real.

And something shifts.

You start talking to your belly.
Playing music.
Smiling at kicks no one else can feel.

Like there’s a whole world
growing inside of you.

And as the days get closer…
you move slower,
sleep differently,
think about everything.

Because it’s not just about a baby arriving.

It’s about a woman becoming a mother.

And that part…
changes you forever.

Pregnancy really is such a journey

From seeing those two lines for the first time to hearing your baby’s heartbeat, feeling the first kicks, and finally holding your little one—it really is a rollercoaster of emotions. 🥹🤍
Some days are beautiful, some are exhausting, and some are honestly just hard. But every stage brings something new.
Pregnant moms, what has been your favorite part of pregnancy so far?

Where can i shop for good quality winter clothes for my 10 month old in Islamabad?

We’re travelling to the northern areas in mid August for 15 days with my 10 month old. It’ll be cold there, so I need to shop for some winter clothes.

Any recommendations for good quality baby winter clothes shops in Islamabad? Looking for sweaters, hoodies, warm sets, socks, caps, etc.

Should I take my 9 month old to the ER after falling off the bed?

I feel absolutely terrible.
I was praying, and somehow my 9.5 month old managed to push the bed rail down and fell off the bed onto the carpet. I immediately broke my prayer and ran to him. He cried right away, and I honestly started crying too.
Since then he’s been completely normal. He’s breastfeeding, crawling, and playing like usual. The only thing I noticed is a tiny red dot/small red mark near his hairline.
I’m still so worried and can’t stop blaming myself.
Would i take baby to the ER just to be safe, or should i get him checked by his pediatrician? Has anyone else been through something similar?

How old was your baby when they started crawling, walking, or talking?

My baby started crawling at 8 months, and now he has started pulling himself up and standing.
It feels like he’s growing up so fast
