The great ponzi scheme called Capitalism.

So this is going to be a long post, but please spare some time for it as it's important for everyone in Gujarat.

People from outside Gujarat are always talking and complaining about how all the big development, national projects, and investments are only going to Gujarat. They think our state is swimming in endless prosperity. But people outside have no idea what the ground reality actually looks like here.

Take a look at Kutch as the biggest example. It is always showcased as the pride and powerhouse of Gujarat's growth, but the truth is that Kutch is being treated as nothing more than a corporate extraction colony.

Look at the sheer scale of what is taken from here:

Kutch is currently the top power-generating district in India (out of India's top 3 thermal plants, 2 are right here). The government has quietly handed over more than "10 lakh acres" (yes you heard it right "10 lakh acres") of land to Adani and Ambani combined for mega-projects, which is roughly 8% to 10% of the entire district. There is even a $10 Billion deal to export electricity straight to the UAE and Saudi Arabia, transmitted directly from Kutch.

Kutch produces around 70% of India's salt. Kandla and Mundra ports handle nearly 30% of the entire country's export cargo. The district is packed with non-metallic minerals that generate massive revenue for the government.

So what do locals/kutchis actually get in return for all these billions? Absolutely third-class facilities.

While electricity is going to be exported to the Middle East, the irony is that a large number of villages get full-day power cuts on Saturdays very frequently. And Bhuj the main city gets powercut many times. The Bhuj - Khavda road (leading to the famous Rann of Kutch, Khavda Renewable Energy Park, Kalo Dungar) used to be decent and toll-free, but now we are forced to pay a toll for a road that is in terrible condition. This is the same for all the local roads, National Highways and State Highways.

Healthcare is completely broken. Our only major government hospital, GK General Hospital, was handed over to Adani back in 2009, and everyone knows how bad the facilities are inside. In the largest district in India, if there is a serious medical emergency, you either get looted by private hospitals or have to run 300+ kms all the way to Ahmedabad.

Education is also in the same sad state. Government schools are either not working or there are no teachers. Most of the schools are not even government they're built by philanthropists, trusts, non profit organizations, etc. So most people are left with expensive private schools for quality education.

Meanwhile, traditional gauchar (grazing) lands in the Banni region are being grabbed and fenced off by corporates, leaving local Maldharis helpless. High-tension export lines are a death trap for thousands of migratory birds. Coastal mangroves are being wiped out (for Adani port expansion), coastal villages are left choking on coal dust, and Narmada water meant for farmers is prioritised for heavy industries.

Then there is the political hypocrisy. Politicians win here by screaming about Hindutva and protecting "Gau Mata". But just look at Bhuj, Mandvi, and our highways. Stray cows are abandoned everywhere in terrible condition, forced to eat plastic from garbage dumps. They cause severe road accidents every single week, injuring and killing locals. People pay taxes, but there is zero protection for either the cows or the citizens once the elections are over.

Now they have started the massive Kutch Copper plant in Mundra. Nobody is talking about the risk. Are we just waiting for it to become another Sterlite copper disaster where toxic pollution completely destroys our air, soil, and water?

Where are our leaders? Our MP (Vinod Chavda) and all our local MLAs completely disappear except when it's time to ask for votes.

People here are finally waking up. We just saw farmers protests, protests over demolitions, the 13-day Mundra container yard strike (currently going on), and there is a lot more anger brewing on the ground.

Why does every Gujarati need to care about this:

If you are sitting in Ahmedabad, Surat, Rajkot, or Vadodara thinking this is just a Kutch issue, you are mistaken. This is the blueprint. They use the name of "Gujarat's Development" to justify handing over thousands of acres of public land and resources to a handful of billionaires, while the common citizens are left with crumbling infrastructure, privatized essential services, zero accountability, and toxic pollution.

Next time people from other states say Gujarat gets all the development, show them this. We aren't getting developed; we are being squeezed dry. If people across Gujarat don't start questioning this blind model of development, what has happened to Kutch today will be the reality of your district tomorrow and then the whole of Gujarat.

TL;DR: Outsiders complain that Gujarat gets all the projects and wealth, but look at the reality. Kutch generates India's power, produces 70% of its salt, and handles 30% of its exports, while over 10 lakh acres of land are handed to billionaires. In return, locals get regular power cuts, broken toll roads, a neglected privatized hospital, and fatal stray cows on highways while every single MLA and MP vanishes. This isn't development for Gujaratis, it's corporate extraction. If we don't start questioning it now, every other district in Gujarat is next.
