i have a few lore questions about the eternal cities

  1. what are all those shriveled up corpse things everywhere

  2. who are the zombie things (like the greatshield soldiers for example) and then to add to that are the nox necromancers?

  3. why are there so few nox did they get decimated by some event or were there always so few?

  4. whats their conection the sellia

Why are trolls/giants not consistently referred to as either name

To be clear i mean the large guys with a weird hole in their stomach that tend to roar and pull the caravans.

So anyway its insanely weird theyre referred to as both names throughout the game renalla for example calls her "oathsworn giant" but then an item is called the trolls sword also being the sword they use.

This extends throughout the entire game is there and actual reason maybe a translation issue?

the environmental story telling is caelid is the best ive ever seen (minor spoilers for early caelid locations)

id mostly like to highlight 3 locations though i could go on abt so many more.

starting with the shack of the rotten:
the place has got a sorta paved plaza type area in the center and the shacks overlooking the area
apart from just getting you a great look of the local area the place was also a potencial place for travellers to rest judging by the paved area though now its burned down with a few rot zombies around, a perfect prewiev of the area.
continuing down the road a bit you got a flaming wall clearly to hold back the rot though it isnt working (showing the futility of the fight against the rot), but whats more important is the sighns of battle with rusted weapons around and the large horde of rot zombies coming up the road, showing there was a battle here and also showing what happened of maybe its participants.

then a bit further down we see a destroyed redmane camp with a sacked caravan just next to it overun with rot beasts, again showing theres battle happening in the region but also showing what the rot is doing to the wildlife and how the redmanes are both outgunned and cut off from supply since this is the only road in or out and a caravan literaly got sacked.

but the best part is caelem ruins.
theres burn bodies everywhere showing how the redmanes are fighting the rot literaly with scortched earth burning down settlements and their inhabitants to stop the spread in vain.
aproaching the various bits of loot flaming zombies awaken again showing the redmanes are not winning, to top it all off around the boss room 2 flame chariots are parked its pretty clear what theyre there for but even the pumpkin heads are wielding flaming weapons im also pretty sure no others in the game do.

this isnt even getting into fort gael the burning piles of rot creatures around the actual battles happening the overrun caelid waypoint ruins and so on.

the goldmask ending is not one of the "good" endings

tldr: the golden order is fundamentally evil and what has always been evil cant just be restored nor reformed to be good especially not through "fundamentalism"

-the golden order was founded on multible genocides war opression and corruption it was always evil it didnt fall apart in any way it hasnt lost its way and theres no such thing as a deeper understanding because all its defined by is its actions. its always been like this.

-golden order fundamentalism was literaly created by radagon the dogmatic enforcer of the golden order responsible for many of its atrocities. moreso it never mentions ending the persecution of the likes of the missbegotten or albanaurics it only belives the golden order lost its way and wants to restore it, again seeking deeper understanding of evil cant make good itll just make more evil.

-the golden order also still remains without a god marika is practically dead just kept alive because shes a god shes clearly not in a state to do anything, and if she was thatd be an even bigger point against it because marika is the one who ordered all of the orders injustice.

edit: this doesnt even get into how the golden order is also inherently a hypocricy neither does it get into how a core theme of eldenring is that power is inherently evil and corrupting and so on

playing this way has made the game so much more enjoyable for me

-removing crutches no summons exept for gank fights no summoning players either, no buff stacking (so no stacking charge attack buffs and so) this is more of a soft rule ill still make an okay build, no magic to buff myself or trivialise fights, no status spam like bleed or frost

-going for a more simpler build im just using a shield for parrys and then a claymore without any fancy ashes or magic, also only going quality so dex and strength leveling/scaling

-engaging with systems ive not used before like parries and also just trying out more weapons

-taking it slower taking in the scenery the npcs dialogue the individual enemy encounters and so on

-challengeing myself even when i dont need to for example i beat the stormhill crucible knight with (almost) only reposts while under leveled (took like 5 hours but ive mastered the crucible knight with sword and shield now lol)

edit: here comes the "oposite" of the puritan side of the community to shame me for suposedly "kicking other playstyles down" when i never did so illiterates.

people were no lying the second half has jumped off a cliff

everything so far was plain amazing top 5 games of all time.
but now ive reached tomb of the giants and quit the game theres nothing enjoyable about this and nothing well designed either.
strong enemy spam on narrow walkways in the dark (i am using the lantern still too dark and my damage is nerfed insanely because i cant 2 hand) insanely long runback and gank fight at the end.
no thanks and ik lost izalith and bed of chaos suck even more.
might replay the first half over and over but this is unexcusable shouldve just ended at anorlondo.

hitting the gaping dragons wound caused by cuting its tail deals extra damage?

i recently fought it and hitting the body did basicly fuck all in terms of damage.
but when i cut its tail and hit its wound it actually did atleast twice the damage, yet i cant find a single result talking about this?

whats the deal with these paintings

ik theres some sort of quest but i have no idea what it has to do with anything

u/ilico_ili — 5 days ago

what would be a non challenge run build that still forces me to learn boss movesets/"get gud"

notes: i will ban summons for anything exept gank fights and i also dont own the dlc

i am competent at the game but every time ive played theres always some crutch wether thats bleed magic or crazy buff stacking and i really wana move away from that and actually make an effort to learn the bosses patterns.
ocasional stance breaks or slower status build up are fine just not anything overly crazy.
without doing a straight up challenge run like not leveling or smt.

ive been thinking maybe a very basic knight themed claymore quality unfusion run with some basic ash.
though im fine with smt more interesting.

edit: ive received alot of sugestions on the main subreddit too some people sugested curve swords or a non bleed dex build let me know what yall think of that. (it did sadly get taken down dont know why but im not here to fight with the mods.)

eldenrings use of neutral enemies is beautifull

edit: totaly forgot to mention how most the wandering nobles are neutral aslong as you dont attack or disrupt them even when agroed most of the time theyll run away or cower in fear only the armed ones will actually try to hurt you

it makes the enemies feel actually alive instead of just mindless hostile madmen who want to kill you for no reason though alot of the are literaly that.
one criticism that i do have is that its used too sparingly the envoys in leyndell and the halig tree should not be hostile neither should alot of other enemies like albanaurics but im drifting off topic i just want to share the best examples of this.

-guranqs black blade kindret will leave you alone if you help guranq he however is buggy and sometimes turns hostile without provocation even though he isnt suposed to so i couldnt take a shot myself

-this random guy (see screenshots) in leyndell playing the areas theme on his flute likely mourning the corpse infront of him

-the commoners in leyndell that have clearly given up everything and are dying/being treated by the perfumers

-the celebrating missbegotten in castle mourne so focused on admiring their bloodbath they ignore you and also the missbegotten further down the castle doing the oposite

they also vary in hostility some ignore you entirely untill you attack others will attack when you get too close.
its very interesting and gives the world alot more charm than in dark souls for example where this is barely used.

morgotts forces are in atleast the second worst position in the shattering war.

tldr: his forces are decimated from the war and lost controll over most of altus even parts of leyndell while other factions like the cuckoo and godrick remain strong if not stronger than they used to be in the case of godrick

morgott holds the capital sure but he barely has controll over it or any part of altus for that matter.
his own city has an undead problem and an active rebellion just being allowed to exist inside the city (misbegotten ocupied district).
the same story repeats over the rest of altus misbegotten and omen are running rampant even taking over several camps and other settlements, while the cult in dominula is actively hunting and skinning his troops and citizens, whatever wormfaces are controll the woods and ryckard to the west humilliated his army.
to the south the cuckoo hold the bellum highway, he has to use mercenaries to keep his rear toward the mountaintops controlled and most the camps in the region are basicly destroyed with barely any soldiers left.
while the shaded castle has been lost to a single melania simp and like 3 cleanrot knights.

even the carians still have their manor and ruler (ranni), the academy is pretty much in power over easter liurnia, ryckard is building an army of man snakes, mashines and recusants (questionable if hes sound of mind enough to use it though tannith is) even godrick has total controll over limgrave apart from a few demi humans.

the redmanes are in a bad spot too but the rot is contained and their resistance apears to be working mostly though they are leaderless and the halig tree is untouchable anyway.

morgott doesnt even controll his own city, is sorounded by enemies and has his forces decimated.

i wish sacred tears and golden seeds had some use for ng+

let us convert them into runes or smt its so weird picking up what is suposed to be valuable when its useless
edit: would also stop people from running through the game as fast on ng+ ive been exploring all locations i have on my map on ng+ and got a altus in a single day and im still playing so it wouldnt add insane amounts of playtime but would make ng+ more engaging.
give us powerfull consumables crafted with them or just runes or other usefull stuff

u/ilico_ili — 7 days ago

this build is busted af

note that the axe is only for the passive you need to charge your heavies and that im experimenting with the weapon infusion.
but other than that it melts anything that bleeds in 1 minute at most excluding the truly end game fights
(i had to repost this 3 times because i always forgot a stat while respecing lol.

I JUST REALISED THIS LINE HAS ACTUAL MEANING

morgott hired/created the nights cavelary who come to hunt you down at night this flew over my head so many times
i always thought he was just shittalking and being intimidating but this is a real threat

answer: theres a wheel in the same room as the fog gate basicly the oposite side of it this opens a shortcut back to get out

i need to get some humanity to kindle the fire to kill o and s but i cant find the way out ive been looking for ages but i dont even remember how i got in.
theres and old reddit post but all the comments are just "come back the way you came" wich isnt very usefull

need some advice

so i reached ornstein and smough (great boss) but i dont think i can beat them with 5 estus but i also cant kindle the bonfire because im out of humanity consumables.
theres no humanity consumables i can get in anor londo atleast i think so (looked it up) if i return to the rest of the map to get some id have to redo all of sens fortress backward and forward if i rest and then also have to re do a good chunk of anor londo thatd be a pain in the ass.
what should i do
