It's not that the trilogy hasn't shown interactions lacking chemistry but there are very few instances where we see them doing things together. Mal and Ben love isn't exactly the best example of chemistry and I'm not saying that for certain reasons but because it's a romance and not a genuine friendship between a VK and an AK. I would have liked to see for example an AK with low self confidence and an AK that helps her become more self assured by improving her personality but there is also this AK with adaptability problems in a A better life like stopping making negative comments and helping others without expecting anything in return

And they wasted their wishes. I hope the new movie includes at least a small reference to the series
